I used mine for 2 months straight on 20lb tanks with a filter and thought I would be okay based on the instructions. But I clogged my filter and heater with the oils. I'm going to invest in the buddy hose and change filters more often. The agent that's added to propane is oily and builds up in tanks especially when they are overfilled. Great video 👍

From the video, the Mr Buddy Big Buddy Heater, which you showed the inside of the same side of both of them.....well, the one you say is the older one and not the Pro, I don't see a quick connect port on the inside of that one, but the Pro has it. Well, I have the Mr Buddy Big Buddy Heater I bought about 3 years ago and it has the quick connect port in mine, but I don't have the fan, which is what they took away. I'm just wondering why the one you are calling the Pro has the quick connect with the fan, but the older version doesn't have either. Mine has the quick connect just without the fan. Why is this?

I have the "old" Big Buddy with the battery powered fan in it. I bought it last year for $120 at Sam's. Only difference it looks like between the Pro and what I got is the electronic start. I'm happy with my purchase because it was cheaper and I don't have to worry about the electronic start.

Yeah if you can grab one of the OG Big Buddy heaters that had the fan at the regular Big Buddy price its a great deal. I will say though the electronic ignition is awesome, just tape an extra AAA battery inside one of the propane doors so you have it, but they usually last a good year plus based on the other heaters I have with it

Ive been using the original Big Buddy heater with fan, for 15 winters now, set on medium, with a 20lb tank, in my living room. Saves alot on my oil heat. The fan does little, so i got a battery 6" fan which clips on handle and has 2 speeds. Works WAY better! 😮

I just got one and my fan is far from quiet as shown in this video! I think I'd rather have the old starter vs the one that requires a battery. Another thing I've noticed is that the first burner always has a flame going up to nearly the grate, even on low, while the second one doesn't. I compared this to my regular buddy and I don't see the same issue with its single burner.

Good information, and thanks. I have a Mister Buddy heater that I use when it gets really cold here in Tennessee. Which doesn't seem to happen nearly as often as it did when I was growing up, and that is fine with me. November was COLD when I was a kid half a century ago. But it can get cold in the winter even now, and if you are willing to Zone Heat, this thing is perfect for keeping a den or living room warm when it's really cold outside. I sleep in the Lazyboy recliner in my den anyway, as sleeping slightly inclined is WAY better for you than sleeping in a bed. When you're old, and I am. I hooked up a large tank to it and when we have a freezing snap, I run it day and night for about 4 or 5 days straight. Works like a champ. I don't need to keep the rest of the house nearly as warm as the room I spend my time in, and so I don't. Get a refill for 20 bucks and ya good to go for another cold spell.

I would suggest a thermal fan instead of the D batts for the fan. Having a battery required would be an issue if your battery is drained and not close to any stores and with piezo ignitor did not require a batt as well to light the flame. I would pass on the Pro model and buy the original.

Looking at doing your livescope build. Saw the garmin 106. Do you have any idea why it’s been discontinued? Can’t find anything online
@AlexTimm
@AlexTimm 10 ай бұрын
The 106 that was on the basically half off price was bundled with the GT54-UHD transducer so a discontinued and promo only product. Garmin came out with the Ultra 2 series that is now in stores, so all the Ultra 106's including those with the newer GT56-UHD transducer are considered previous model and will no longer be sold as current inventory. From my experience though, I bet around the holidays we will see them pop back up again for ~$1000 and sometimes on other random promo periods

I would have thought the new heater was less money with that POS battery igniter. I have never had a problem with my piezoelectric starter, and it is always ready. Piezo is a very reliable ignition source and doesn't have a corrosive bomb inside if you forget to take it out when winter is over. As far as the fan, my old Buddy Heaters have fans and I my farts move more air than the fan. I tried it a long time ago and replaced it with a thermal fan for a wood stove. I take my heaters with me to the Nevada desert for a back up in my camper and I keep them in the original box when they are not being used. I use one of them to heat my shop all winter, 24/7, 9 gallons in 7 days. I measure my propane in gallons, just like the man who sells it to me! If you asked for pounds of propane you might get slapped! A Texas Fruitcake metal box is the perfect size to keep your extra hoses and filters as well as your thermal fan, but any of the cheap snap-lock boxes from Costco would work fine. Keep them clean and test them before you use them in the fall and you will never be left out in the cold, pun intended!

I have been looking to upgrade my Buddy heater. I have the smaller one at the moment. I am wondering with the abnormally warm winter if I should wait until spring and see if the price drops. I currently use a stove fan on mine, but like the idea of the all in one. Since I am a flash/headlight junkie, I always have extra batteries with me so that is a non issue. Does the internal fan push hard enough to move the heat significantly ? After writing this I clicked on you links and Amazon has them for $131.48. I think I am going to buy one.
@AlexTimm
@AlexTimm 10 ай бұрын
If you are looking at the Pro they might go on a deal once they have been out for a while, but that may take a while. If you are looking for the standard Big Buddy, now is a good time to buy as you can get them for $109.99 (perhaps even cheaper if you find a better random sale). Only time the standard Big Buddy is cheaper is usually Black Friday time frame when they go down to $89.99 & $99.99 depending on the day The internal fan is decent - I wouldn't say anything amazing, but I might try and see if there is a way to upgrade it to a higher CFM fan

Thanks for the informative comparison. I've found that those furnace style electric ignitors are very prone to breakage from jolts, and it's also important to not get any finger prints on them when replacing them as they will die much faster - so I'm going to go with the trusty piezo version on the base model. I hear that there are fans that spin by being heated, but have no experience with those. Any thoughts on those aftermarket fans?

dont waste your time with propane. been doing the van life/camping trips with the buddy heaters. The heat just goes straits up and Too much moisture is produced from those plus you need ventilation or you’ll get headaches and wake up with a metallic taste in your mouth. The Hcalory tb2 diesel heater is the BEST portable/stationary heating system on the market! plus all the app features and temperature control and timers, you wont be disappointed. plus it blows the air so it circulates dry hot air. Propane has always be a pane, i mean pain.

You are freezing yer *** Off and you Cannot light it Because can't find a fresh AA batt.!! 2. The fan seems very weak. I have the stove fan (it also is weak) but it requires NO battery! The Original Big Buddy is simple. The PRO has too many parts that can Fail.🤔

If you look in your Mr Heater owners manual at the parts drawing you will find that your heater has a psi regulator installed inside. No need for you to add a second one. Sure, if you use genuine Mr Heater hose it will not deteriorate & flake off clogging your hose or burner jets. HOWEVER, How clean is the fuel from your exchange tanks? Is the tank an old one? Probably. Is it rusty inside? Maybe. Perhaps the use of an external filter might not be a bad idea JUST IN CASE. Mr Heater tells us to never, NEVER, N E V E R place your external tank in the same space as your heater lest it leak & kill everyone in that space AND/OR the gas make its way to the open flame & burn you to death. HOWEVER#2, The Buddy Heater is designed with a pocket to store a 1lb fuel bottle in the side JUST INCHES FROM THE OPEN FLAME But this 1lb bottle is OK, like, 1lb bottles NEVER leak. Users NEVER screw the bottle to the heater half loose of anything like that. Not EVER. !

I looked at that also. Very little capacity. The masses would never notice that. Just as well save the money and use the regular heater; it puts out good heat.

@@truthseeker5890 I love my Big Buddy and the new electronic ignition is sweet, but that fan is just not good at all.

It's not the strongest fan, but watching it back the paper test does not do it justice, it actually moves the heat pretty well. Lol

The fan is weak and barely worth having. I have the original big buddy that had a fan and one of the units that came without the fan. To be honest I prefer the cheaper price, less weight (especially considering the batteries), and no worries about the electric start. I like the non-pro version. I would buy that given the option between the two.

Still not much of a fan like the old ones. They should have put the fan like the dewalt heater. Now that's a fan.
