Hack #5 is useful when it's at the dealership and we can't start the engine but need the steering unlocked to push it into the shop. Most cars have a safety release hidden underneath the centre console, or behind the column trim, so it's kinda useful to have one that's easier to get to for when your Alfa breaks down

Alfas does not break down. They just get iffy if not treated like a princess, specially when tasked with humdrum stuff like going to the supermarket. It's their Italian temper paired with a bit of narcissism and what have you. Oh, dida I mentioned that I drive a Volvo and my wife a 159? That randomly decides that it does not start and then you just disconnect the battery for 2 minutes to show the creature who is actually in charge. And off we go.

Hi DanyEEL - thanks for watching. I try to handwash my cars - car washes tend to scratch & dull paint. I use good quality wash products and often ceramic coat my cars so they are easier to keep clean. Detailing now and again helps to keep the overall impression of the car good, as dirty exhaust tips, brake calipers or messy interiors bring the image down, even if the bodywork is shiny!

First of all thank you for your videos - You have won me over to a point where I seem to have fallen in love with the Alfa's :D I know it's not the purpose of this video (!question time!) but I'm now looking at (maybe) buying one for the purpose of daily usage, a bit of (spirited) sunday driving and occasionally hauling a very leightweight racecar around on a trailer. So since the 156 and 159 more or less crosses price points where I live, I'm wondering which to buy between the 156 2.0 JTS or the 159 2.2 JTS? The 159 has more power and build more modern but also heavier.. What would you (Alfa Nut and everyone else) choose? Reliability weighs in my decision as well as sportyness - Since most trips are rather short fuel economy is mostly what it is (ofc, better is better.. But yeah) :)
@TheAlfaNut4 жыл бұрын
Hi mate, thanks for watching and for the kind comments - glad to have helped you to fall in love with Alfas! If I was buying a car for towing, I would always buy a diesel as they have more torque. If I was buying a car for spirited driving and weekend fun, probably a 156 as they are light and fun to drive. If I needed an all-rounder that was reliable and comfortable but also quick, then I'd go for a 159 2.4 jtdm. 210 bhp, 50 mpg, great for towing and the exhaust note is good as it's 5 cylinders. I don't like the 2.2 jts engine much - it has some quirky issues with the power delivery and bogs down from a standstill. Just my thoughts - happy shopping!
@KF2NationalKartcrg4 жыл бұрын
@@TheAlfaNut Thank you very much for the reply, it certainly helped clear up my mind. I'm still looking as I have not found the one yet. I'm defitnitly into the 159 2.4 JTDM, but it seems like the market has a eye for those as well since they tend to go for a bit of a premium of which I can't strech my wallet to (yet). So in short, my mind has landed on the diesel side of things, and if I can manage, I'll go the 159 2.4 way. But yet again, thank you soo much. And thank you for some great content :D

The thumbnail for this video shows 'telephone dial' or 'horseshoe' wheels (whatever you want to call them) with only 5 holes; I have never seen the like on a 159 previously, traditionally those are on 4C's etc, ...interesting... normally the 159/Brera horsehoe wheels have 7 holes (I just recounted mine to check..lol)

Hi John, thanks for watching and for the feedback. Strange, most UK 159's don't have the window close function. Have you owned the car from new? If not, maybe somebody successfully got their local Alfa dealer to program it back in?

@@TheAlfaNut I wish, I would love to own a brand new Alfa. I bought it three years ago, it has done 180,000 miles and drives like a dream. My policy is, if someone gets in the way of the windows closing then tough luck :). Annoying faults are the switches on the pedals but if you are a contortionist or have a bendy daughter like I have then changing or resetting them is easy.

All these years later and it's still one of the most beautiful sedans/wagons ever built. Alfa knocked it out of the park with this one, especially if you got the Q4 with a 3.2 or a 2.4!

Hi Sammy, I own a 1998 156 V6 and it costs around £500 to change the cam belt. The 156 has more room in the engine bay to work than in the GTV but maintenance is still a challenge, as the engine was designed to be fitted North - South, not East - West! 😄 They are great though - you should definitely buy one

When I bought my 159SW the car was set on autolock with key, I forgot something in the bikeshed and closed the door with running engine. The car locked me out with the housekey also in the car. My neighbour was home and has a spare housekey, so I could unlock the car with the spare key. I've set all these futures off in the board computer, if something like this happens when youre not in the neighbourhood of the spare key you have a real problem.
