Great video! I have a 2.0 Veloce Q4 as well and I was also a bit deluded by the acceleration after about 80km/h (50ish miles?).. with the Eibach suspension and a remap to over 315hp and 470nm of torque it feels much quicker and therefore like a true Veloce should be:)

i am considering 2.0 Veloce Q4. Currently drive Octavia rs, based on videos i dont think veloce is faster. and i have heard that there is no way to turn off all safety nonsense, like DSC to slide it?
@GROUNDHOGRACING2 жыл бұрын
@@MeijaJanis nice, but the Octavia RS is a very nice car as well. I don't know if you are talking about petrol or diesel, but if you talk f.e. about the 245hp/370nm petrol Octavia RS, from 0 to 100km/h with around 6.5sec it has no chance against a 280hp Q4 Giulia (5.2 sec.). 100 to 200 the stock Giulia would also be faster but not so much I think..maybe 2-3sec.. Yeah you cant turn off the traction unfortunately..but the car can be fitted with the race knob from the quad. If you want to;)
@MeijaJanis2 жыл бұрын
@@GROUNDHOGRACING mine is petrol, it feels faster than these figures, Alfa should win 0-100 but looking at this video i would win alfa all the time from the roll. I have had multiple roll races with beemers and it goes very quick to 180. anyway if on Alfa you can not disable properly DSC then there is no point to have that car, shame.

The remap is almost necessary to turn this into the car the chassis deserves it to be. I was thinking that this could be the performance bargain especially with the 8 speed box but it just lacks that emotion connection that the QV has in spades. Ed

I absolutely love my Veloce and this video pissed me right off. Your answer is honest and surely correct, but the question was stupid from the beginning. Of course it isn't a patch on a QV, but why would you expect it to be. Would you review a 330i and compare it to an M3? It's not trying to be the same car. If you want a 500hp supercar then you know what to get. If you want a mid level, reasonably fast saloon car that drives like magic, you want to differentiate yourself from the rest of the crowd in their grey german cars, and you have an eye for beauty, you have to try the Veloce. The car deserves to be reviewed for what it is.

I truly believed before the drive that for the same outlay of £45k, and in the real world, that the Veloce would be perfect. This was shot without any preconceptions, and in real time. In the same world, your money is better spent on a used QV. It’s just my opinion and I respect yours. There’s no doubt that dynamically they’re very similar but for effectively the same running costs the QV wins hands down. Please go and drive one and drive one and report back. Ed

@@Back_Road_Hero "Effectively the same running costs"? No way, as everything you'll do to maintain a QV will be cost more money than a Veloce. Oil changes, brake pads, tires will cost more, as well as keeping it fueled and insured. Would I still like a used QV? Why, yes I would.

I have a veloce and I personally don’t want any more power. I prefer to rev my cars out and not break the speed limit in 3 secs but I do see how some people may like having ridiculous amounts of power. Regarding the boxster and 911 some people say the boxster is the better drivers car fwiw.
@Back_Road_Hero Жыл бұрын
It was just my two pence worth. My comparison was a new Veloce versus a used QV for the same money. The QV wins this contest and isn’t that much more expensive to run. Depreciation is also much less as well as the new car will obviously lose more over the same timeframe. Ed
@mario535542 жыл бұрын
hello, I do appreciate your video and your honesty. I think you are spot on about one thing, the Veloce can be pushed to the limit in a very responsive way and it makes you feel safe while you do it. I do have it, a 2021 MY, and the dynamic aspect of the driving is insane. I have a few friends with the QV and what we agree is: The Veloce is a great fun car in the range from 30 to about 90 mph, because is nimble, agile and lighter (about 500 lbs lighter). So, I do enjoy the fun in the back roads, on a serpentine, because of the phenomenal chassis and how the 280 hp are flowing, but yes, 0nce you hit that agile "cap" of the ~90 mph, is the moment in which you know is missing the power to keep up and give you more. The QV is the Iconic Alfa Romeo, power, sound, aggressiveness and the QV badge, which is only on the top Alfa Romeo for a specific reason. For me the Veloce is the entry level and possibly even the mid range enjoyment, now I know it, I would possibly consider to get a used QV in the future so to upgrade, more for the Iconic reason and possibly a Collectible aspect of the car, they will not do a QV on a Giorgio platform ANYMORE, so.... will be unique in the future :)

Well said. The Veloce drives beautifully but is slightly overshadowed by its bigger brother. If the QV didn’t exist we would all be saying that the Veloce is the best Alfa ever!

It’s funny how the Veloce gets more noticed than the Ti Sport predecessor. The Ti Sport was the same vehicle and had better packages available. Adaptive suspension etc. They change the name and all of a sudden there’s 100 Veloce videos popping up like it’s a all new trim.

Great review. I totally understand that as a Quad owner the Véloce doesn’t do it for you. It makes complete sense. I’m in Canada where Audis, BMWs and Mercs are everywhere. And they’re all black, grey or white. I’ve test driven the M340i, C43 (wagon of course, because we had it here from 2019-2021) and the S4/S5. My favourite thus far driving wise is the M340i, with the C43 coming close because it’s one of the last fast wagons we get over here. But there are amazing lease deals on Alfas because they aren’t selling, and they’re basically unicorns here, which is appealing. The main issue with the Giulia is the lack of an in-between V6 option to compete with the C43 and M340i. The Estrema with 350hp would probably be one of the best drivers’ cars in the world for the money. It’s tragic they don’t have an option with more power AND AWD that’s not the insanity of the Quad. It’s making my choice between the C43 wagon and a Giulia very difficult indeed.

Don’t do it Kevin. The thrill of a new car will fade very quickly. The Veloce handles great as it’s essentially the same car but lacks the punch. Running costs are only marginally more. Think 911 vs Caman.
@markbroadheaf15932 жыл бұрын
Unless that car has the Performance Pack the suspension is not active. I agree it moves along nicely, mine has 18's with non run-flats, rides really well. Decent brakes although like most road cars they will fade if you push it hard. 30 mpg ? I wish, if i drive like a saint in economy mode maybe - I generally get around 25mpg average though this will be more like 16 mpg on a hard drive. Later cars might be better, mines an 18 plate and has had issues - electrical fault that drained battery, rear brake corrosion ( known ), parking sensors have stopped working and the nearside headlamp is letting in water ( over a thousand quid each ). The quick steering seems natural when you get used to it and it handles well so you can cover the ground at a good lick and still soak up broken tarmac better than my previous M2 in this respect. If I keep it will probably remap it, depends whether it develops any more faults. I would have liked the QV but the pandemic had a big hit on my business.

Is all Gulia "brake by wire" ? And how do the brake feel when you are use too it? Is it a no go on a trackday?
@Back_Road_Hero2 жыл бұрын
Haven't used it on track but you get used to it. It's not really an issue to be honest although pulling up smoothly to a stop can be a little tricky to master initially. I'd prefer the safety that it gives over a conventional system. A byproduct is that the cruise control has an input over the braking system as well instead of a conventional system that lets the speed run away when going downhill. Makes the radar cruise a fantastic option to have. Ed
