Always put the truck in 4x4 on the ramp. All 4 wheels lock together when in park and keep it from sliding down the ramp. Especially if you are by yourself and have to get out of the truck. Otherwise you are only relying on the rear wheels in the moss.
@gullreefclubАй бұрын
There is only one problem with that line of thinking and that is because the truck is on an angle backwards angle there is very little weight on the front axle so by even if the front wheels are locked they are going to slide (skid) down the boat ramp until the truck becomes a U-Boat. The major malfunction at this boat ramp is the concrete is not grooved to allow for drainage of water and also to provide a better surface to help prevent vehicles from slipping/sliding down them while launching or recovering a boat. Lastly always have a competent driver in the vehicle to either hold their foot on the brake and hit the gas if the vehicle starts slipping

A couple of rules we lived by when we launched our Ranger Tug. 1. No one in the truck but me, windows down, in 4 low with the rear axle locked. My wife would handle all the lines as the boat came off the trailer so I didn’t have to leave the truck but if I saw her in trouble I’d pull the truck up far enough it was out of the danger zone and go help her. Did we do it right every time, nope but we tried to minimize the chances of losing the truck or someone getting hurt. We had a check list so no matter how busy the ramp was we hopefully didn’t forget anything. Be safe out there, it’s a crazy world!

Again...truck parking brakes are on the REAR AXLE. If you get out, and the rear tires slip, there is NOTHING to stop it. Someone MUST stay in the vehicle with the foot on the brake if the ramp is slick, so the FRONT brakes stay engaged. The only possible exception is if you have a 4WD with the system and hubs engaged and the truck in park.

I launch with a 4X4 manual transmission with manual hubs (engage in reverse also unlike many auto hubs). I engage at least 1 if not both front hubs, put it in low range, and when I park, I leave it in first low with the engine off if I am solo launching. It has an extremely high rolling resistance that way, in addition to the parking brake. I'm strongly considering a chock as well, just to be sure.

2015 Fort Myers beach. I had 2 brand new jetskis and i was towing them with a 2003 pontiac vibe front wheel drive. After jetsking all day i saw a lot of water and algae on the ramp. I saw trucks struggling to get out i KNEW my pontiac vibe wasnt gonna make the pull of 2 wet jetskis and a trailer. I asked a guy with a truck if i could attach my shore lines to his hitch ball and the front of my vibe and help me back up the ramp. He helped out my vibe and jetskis made it out fine. 2 expensive suvs went blup blup that day minutes apart. A year later i sold the vibe to girl that just got her liscence for $100. In the UK we mostly just dip the tail of the trailer under the water, run out the winch cable to the boat and winch the boat onto the trailer so only half the trailer in in the water, rather than trying to put the whole trailer under the boat. Most of our ramps also have anchor rings to fasten the front of your vehicle to it so the boat/trailer weight can't pull the vehicle backwards into the water. Sad to see that brand new truck turning into a submarine.
