This tutorial will address and fix any sync/timing sloppiness you may or may not be aware of in your 5-string sweep arpeggios. Sometimes some notes or note transitions lag behind or skip ahead. To remedy this, we will apply the "Starting Point Cycling" approach. This is where we change the starting note of the arpeggio, using the metronome click or beat to offset the notes and highlight any problem areas in your technique.

Alfred Potter Guitar Super impression of a metronome! I bought a Korg metronome that does everything including markeing the tea...BUT it has one very annoying thing that you can't change, it doesn't click, but beeps! You can change the tone of the beep to be in key but it's so much hassle.

I've always thought that sweep picking was something I was never gonna be able to do but your videos has me on the right track and feel 100% confident that I'll get there in a few more months.

Started this a few days ago and it has added that last piece of the puzzle I was seeking. I knew it was to do with timing but cycling the starting point has evened everything out. Nice one mate, cheers!!

I am so pleased! I have never heard anyone else talk about it either, and yet it helped me so much when I came up with it. Keep going, and good luck.

Fantastic tutorial , I'm getting fairly good at sweep picking and can do 5 string sweeps. Iv always been a finger style player so going to a pick was a bit strange but am getting used to it. I love your channel and you should have many many more subscriber. Once again brilliant tutorial , keep up the great work and that is one beautiful guitar . Best wishes from Liverpool. Dave.

Yes I imagine it is strange. Seeing as guitar was invented to be played with fingers (not a pick!). No wonder we all seem to struggle. Good luck to you, Dave

Starting point cycling sounds like permutations. This is a very useful concept indeed. I played drums for a bit and took lessons and all the basic drills were cycled in terms of starting point. When I started playing guitar I started doing that too.

You are coming along very well, so keep doing what you're doing! Yes, my sweeping exploded the moment I started cycling the starting points.

Yes ! And one more time, start it slowly and speed up the tempo only when you mastered it at low tempo... The hardest thing (for me) is to alternate with a rythm, a solo, a sweep, another rythm part....

Hey alfred im sorry to detract from the point of the video, but it kinda stuck with me that you were muting parts of the recording, idk if that annoyed you or not but its an easy fix if you wanna take the time, what i found is when you record for a video, either before or after the recording, try capturing the "dead air" its kind of a sound that is quiet, but also kinda loud. If you watch back, theres a sort of hum thats supposed to be invisible but because you cut off sound all together, it brings the dead air into focus, idk if it was creative decision to take it out but thats an easy way to fix it
