First time staying in Tavira, The Algarve Portugal, second time visiting an interesting historic town. The focal point being The Gilão river and the Roman Bridge (Tavira Old Bridge), a medieval structure that has been the base of many different bridges over time.
We show you some of our favourite places in Tavira and enjoy our two weeks winter stay here before moving on.

Some lovely views of the town, thanks. The beautiful purple flowers are called Bouganvilla, found all over Portugal. Those flamingos migrated to Portugal, many years ago, from Africa, and never went back! Sounds familiar, Portugal has that sort of pull on people too. Take care guys X:)

Hi Norm and Tina. Great to see you got back to Portugal again.Been to Tavira a few years ago and couldn't say it was my favourite town. Very historic and pretty town centre but extremely quiet with little of interest nearby. May I suggest you visit Vila Real do Santo Antonio as it's a most beautiful and unique town . It and Lisbon are laid out on the grip pattern so no winding streets. It also has a passenger ferry over the river to Spain. N.B. Watch out anybody travelling on the ferry that the time is one hour later on the Spanish side so dont miss your boat back. Love all your videos from day 1 and your getting even better year by year. I spent two weeks in Tavira in 2020, and it’s lovely, as you say. Also the train station is in town, so day trips are easier (as opposed to Albufeira). Love the farmers’ market too. Fair number of Canadians, very friendly and helpful!

We visited Tavira in Sep '23. It was our favourite town, so pretty and walkable. My Mom has friends there so visiting with them was extra special...we got to see how the locals live and where they like to go. Try to get a daytrip to Altura on a sunny day, it's a beautiful seaside town, great shopping and restaurants. It's lovely to see Tavira again. Thanks for sparking my longing to go back!

We absolutely loved Tavira. We loved that it's so walkable. The river walk is so charming! The architecture is so gorgeous. When we were there in the spring, the bougainvillea was blooming and it was just beautiful. 100% would consider living there. It was our favorite place in the Algarve!

We are two Canadians from Orangeville here in Vilamoura for two weeks to explore the Algarve. We plan to visit Travira this week .. just over 30 minutes from here on the toll road..and maybe take the ferry to Spain for lunch . Have you tried this ? Maybe too much for one day. Hi there. My wife and I were in Tavira yesterday. We walked along the river, visited the Mercado, the castle, the church next to the water tower (the camera obscura show was closed), watched a fado show and had lunch at a tapas place called Come na Gaveta. Tavira is a lovely town and we would like to take a boat tour next time.

Another great video. Thanks for your informative videos. I also like the no logo caps. One issue with tavira is that your on the very east of the Algarve It takes a lot longer to get from the east to west of the Algarve than most Canadians would expect.

We visited Tavira when the weather was not that sunny and our impression was not so good. So I would say a lot depends on the weather . At the same time my daugther and grandkids who are living in Denmark, visited us in Albufeira this week and they were swimming everyday despite pretty crappy weather (about +19 with intermittent rains) and said that winter here is like their summer. So-I guess, destinations are the matter of priorities.

Hello Tina and Norm. Three years ago my husband and I retired and decided to spend our 1st winter in Portugal. I spent hours beforehand on youtube doing my research, and your videos were extremely helpful. I would never have known where to find the 1/2 and 1/2 cream, how to order a frothy coffee or which wine ( JP) is a good buy. Thanks so much for the info. We are heading back to Armacau de Pera for our 3rd year next week. We absolutely love Portugal! We did notice that prices had gone up last year, and fully expect it to be even higher this year. They were reasonable a large Toastie ( really nice one ) was 4.50 Euros , soup was 1.90 Euros you could get dish of the day for 8-50 - 10 euros 💶 ☕️🙂

Tavira is well known for its fabulous restaurants (See how many recommendations there are on this one podcast!). A proper meal of the freshest seafood (almost still wriggling!) and best vegetables you'll ever enjoy, is about €12 to €18. A glass of house wine, about €3 (A healthy pour!). A kg of fresh, never frozen, tuna steak is about €20 at the market or supermarket. I was told never to pay more than €10 for a bottle of fine wine, and often find it for 60-70% off at the supermarket. Yes, prices are good here...what's not to enjoy?

It had been a little cool and windy so yes we needed coats around 10° now it’s a lot warmer 16-18° lovely and sunny no coats also we both got the flu so we were keeping warm too Cheers 🇨🇦☕️🇵🇹

Is it difficult to get lost in Tavira? Earlier this year when I was in Lagos, my transport driver couldn’t find my hotel to drop me off and another one couldn’t find it to pick me up when it was time for me to leave. My hotel was across from a square, close to the court house and three minutes from the ocean. I didn’t fault these guys because everywhere looked the same; it was hard to tell one intersection from the other. Before I went wondering about, I made a habit of taking pictures of the intersections to know how to find my way back. I have found Google map to be useless in Portugal, there are very few street signs, and it was difficult to make out the Portuguese pronunciation of the street names, or where the sings were posted. I did went into panic mode a few times, but it was all part of the adventure.
