This was so helpful. It took my math teach 45 mins to teach the first 2 things you taught and i still don't get it but you took like 5 mins or so and i got it. lol You are a cool math teacher. I would say a square root of a number x is the number y where x=y^2 ie the square root of 9 is 3 and -3 because 3^2=9=(-3)^2. But the radical symbol √ ̅ only takes the principal root of the number x, hence it take only one value (the positive one). At 2:57, you said it right, but your writing didn't. It becomes all inconsistent when you "operate" these terms at 9:30 when you didn't take the negative square root of -4, but only the positive root. Simple, the radical symbol gets you only the positive root.
