Thank you for the video! I believe the official rules for the 2-player version is incorrect when it says "In the scoring rounds Dirk is awarded points for having THE MOST of any of the different kinds of building but not for an external wall." As you (logically) play, Dirk can score second or third place and participate in divided points for ties, rather than score ONLY when he is in first place. It clearly makes most sense to score Dirk as you would normally score a player, and this is probably what the rules intended to say.

Hi Djin Tonic! You are welcome - we are glad you liked the video. That is a good spot - I guess that technically Dirk can only score for having the most of any type of building as per the wording of the rules, but as you say, I think it is more logical to play the way we did. My guess is that it was a mis-wording in the rulebook. Thanks for pointing this out anyway. Some people may want to play that Dirk only scores for first place, but I think it adds more challenge and depth to the two player game to allow him to score second or third place too.

Haha... you caught me there! Yes, I did indeed forget my free action. Luckily I got away with it in the end. Alhambra is a nice, relatively light game, but it does have a nice amount of strategy in it and I enjoy it's chilled out style.

Your knowledge of all the actual currency & building names is impressive! I am not sure I like this game very much at 2 players.....even after accounting for our walls, one of us usually manages to lose to the dummy player (Dirk), which can be very annoying. I think going forward we will adopt your method of not actually updating Dirk's score on the score track. Maybe ignorance will be bliss in this case :)

Thanks Andrew. When we play board games, we try to get into the world of the game as much as possible and we find that calling the components by their names, rather than yellow, blue, green etc. helps with that a lot. It makes it more thematic for us. Haha... yeah, there is no need to update Dirk's score. He just makes you feel bad when you lose to him! Ignorance is indeed bliss in this case! :)

I should point this out. At 15:57, since Pat spent exact change buying an tile, he got an extra action after getting it, which I was surprised he forgot about. Otherwise, great video. I should also ask if you're going to start the Pandemic Legend: Season 0 mini-series next Friday. You hinted at it in October 2020 to start in December 2020, but no videos of you playing that game aired, and we haven't heard since October 2020 if both of you were still interested in playing it over the next year or so as part of that monthly mini-series. I thought I would ask, since I was looking forward to watching that game being played.

Hi Daniel. You are absolutely correct. I was concentrated on the placement of the tile and I totally forgot to take my second move. Thanks for letting us know, and we're glad you enjoyed the video. Sorry also about the delay with Pandemic Legacy. We are going to do a series of Pandemic Legacy: Season 1. Our plan was to start in December, but we both had busy schedules at the end of the year with work and Christmas/New Years etc so we didn't get around to it. We still plan on doing it but it will be a bit later than we said... The plan is to begin it on the last Friday of February. Sorry that it is taking longer than expected and thank you very much for your interest!

Hey Sir B! Yeah, hopefully. I was a bit disappointed with my performance and lack of gloating rights in December so off to a good start for the new year! Dirk is a complete and utter arse indeed. But I think we managed to put him in his place in the end!

Hi Paul. Thanks for the comment. You could play a 2-player game without the dummy but I think it might be a bit flat. The dummy player gives a bit of competition on the score cards and you can give tiles to him to make sure that your opponent doesn't get them. It adds another level of strategy to the game. But, if you prefer to keep things really simple, there is no reason you can't leave the dummy player out. It depends on which way you prefer to play.

@@AllAboardBoardgames Thx for your reply. As I haven't played it yet (it's on the way), why would you give a tile to the dummy hand and not just put it in your reserve. Is it to negate 2nd/3rd place scoring for your actual opponent?

@@paulspalding6880 Yes, that’s exactly it. Or you may have no suitable spots for the tile in your own Alhambra but you want to stop your opponent from taking first place.
