--------
In this clip, Ali discusses the evolution of his relationship with rapper Nelly and the St. Lunatics. Ali acknowledges Nelly’s impressive achievements, selling 10 million records and securing a record deal for the group. He recounts the process of writing songs for the group, revealing how Nelly often claimed credit for songs that were written collaboratively. He expressed frustration, highlighting a perceived lack of recognition for his own contributions. Despite tensions arising from disagreements about credit and control, Ali maintains he harbors no resentment, even though their last interactions - exchanges of text messages - suggest a complicated dynamic.

The reason why Ali ain’t get paid publishing from Country Grammer because one he made St. Lunatics sign it away to D2 and two St. Lunatics forced Nelly to pay them out of his budget for there verses on Country Grammer or they were going to take they verses off. If I was the St. Lunatics I would’ve told Nelly instead of paying us upfront for are verses (which that payment was probably a work for hire payment) pay off D2 so we can get our publishing back. They was gone eat on the road from shows, the backend of the publishing and group/individual albums. I guess they thought holding Nelly album up for hostage was good idea 😂

@@xDreMack why did they sign the pub away to begin with?
@xDreMack
@xDreMack 3 ай бұрын
@TheCuttyBrown it was pretty much a standard industry practice back then for artist to sign a portion of their publishing over when they gor their deal. It wasn't until guys like Suge, Master aP, Diddy, Dame Dash came along and started signing distribution deals where they kept their publishing and only used the record labels to distribute their music. The labels countered that by creating the 360 deal where they get a percentage of everything. Ali was like most struggling artist desperate for money and to get on so he signed a deal not fully understanding what it would mean in the long run.

Nah. I seen stuff like this in real time. I have two cousins who are both millionaires. A lot of people helped them get to where they are now. Your not going to do anything to make them mad or they just cut you off and everyone chooses the side of the rich person in all situations. He wasn't horrible at handling his business per say. The "Country Grammar" album had to be wrote by Nelly due to the way the publishing deal was structured. He basically gave the rhymes to Nelly so that he fulfills the parameters of the deal. Ali wrote the biggest selling album of his career. A smart man and also being his brother would protect him at all costs and make sure that he is taking care of, so that the success continues and could have paid him on the side. This is what happens when you have a bunch of guys together and none of them came from money. They see green and forget about how they got the money. Nelly and St. Lunatics should have had another album. I love watching these videos because you find out the real of what came into the making of these songs and albums that we all love.

The only inconsistency to me is how come Ali never wrote, produced or worked with any other artists that were above local rapper level (c-list or higher) especially after all this time? Dr. Dre left death row and found new artists to put on, Quentin Miller even found new artists he wrote for and was Grammy nominated, EPMD same thing when they split they found new artists, etc. Nelly denies the claim and Nelly don't strike me as the type to just take credit just because. I remember Nelly saying how Universal records passed on the St Lunatics but picked him out for a solo project as he had the right 'look'. That alone would have caused a lot of resentment and jealousy amongst the group. The fact of the matter is they all wanted Nelly's spot. Seeing Nelly enjoy huge fame, wealth and groupies and benefits of fame must have been sickening for them, if they're being honest. Eminem even said jealousy is what breaks up a lot of these rap groups. One gets huge and the others get jealous.

Man.. I ain’t gonna lie.. I’m hearing the real beef from Ali! He’s mad that his solo album flopped and he never blew up! Real Talk, Ali had his chances to shine and he just didn’t have the magic and charisma. In life, when you have a group of people who hang out and go everywhere together there’s usually always one person who is the star that others gravitate towards! Sometimes there’s two people! Everyone else is just along for the ride and have to accept that reality! In the case of the St. Lunatics, Nelly and Murphy Lee were those 2 guys! Period! Why Ali keeps saying that Nelly won’t let him leave to do anything else sounds ridiculous coming from a grown man.

As great of writer and creator that Ali was. He would’ve never sold millions of records as nelly. Nelly was a sex symbol. He had the look, the swag and the voice. All of that matters. Universal knew this, that’s why they really only wanted nelly. This still goes on till this day. Where the group is trying to get a deal but the label only wants one of them. Do you take the deal? Or do you stay in the projects with your homies? Easy to say I’m loyal to my friends until a million cash is in your face.

Universal ONLY wanted Nelly clearly. Nelly pulled rank to ride with the guys hence why Murphy and Ali got solo deals. Ali did messed up business. If what he says is true from the writing aspect, he would have DEMANDED more points on the album period. Ain't nobody contribute a huge amount of work and not asked for either money and/or points. They asked for the money, which came out of Nelly's budget and STILL got solo deals. But if you signed your publishing rights as a group to a local production group, but Nelly brought his back after Country Grammar blew up, whose fault is that???? And if you feel this way about getting your just due, why not call the man, WHY ARE YOU DOING PUBLIC INTERVIEWS spreading half-truths SMH!!!

Here is my story. I used to work for a company I helped co-found. Truth be told, the white man invested 100% of the money. I only helped with the paper work and served as CEO. A few years later, he had a painful conversation with me about seperation (due to the cries of one big client). With grace, I left the company I co-founded with nothing. Today, I solely own an agribusiness and invested in a tech startup. Going solo helped me to focus on my stuff, apply my ideas and build wealth in the process. Why Ali and others are not doing this is beyond me? Niggaz should stop crying over spilled milk. If you have the creativity and small capital, develop your lane beyond St. Lunatics. Nelly will respect you. Dre left Deathrow and developed Aftermath. Cube left Ruthless and created CubeVision. If you have the writing skill, build and business model around it.

I hear what Ali is saying but this is what is bothering me. If he so called wrote 90% of Nelly's debut album. To include picking the beats. And he allegedly wrote the majority of the groups album. To include picking the beats for that as well. Then why would he need Nelly's or any other group members help for his solo project? Because let him tell it he was a one man band. He was the one writing everything. He was the one picking the beats. Now either he's lying and he didn't do everything he claims he did. Or he just happened to capture lightning in a bottle. And he just had lyrics for days. To write all of Nelly's and the St. Lunatics albums.

Then wth would I need you to reciprocate? I did everything. So I should be able to do the same thing for my our debut album? According to Ali in a previous interview with Vlad. Ali said Nelly could only write one 16 bar verse. According to Ali Nelly could not write three 16 bar verses. So I'm assuming the same holds true for the rest of the lunatics. Because according to Ali he damn near did everything for Nelly and the lunatics albums. So I guess all Nelly and the other lunatics had to do was writing one 16 bar verse. And kick their feet up and let Ali do write everybody else's two 16 bar verses for every single song. Ain't no way. Ain't no fuckin way. If he has that much skill at writing. Then right now as we speak Ali should be ghostwriting. For damn near 85-90 percent of rappers in hip-hop right now.
