I wanted to share my story about ATCQ. I was on my lunch break working Montgomery Wards and i stopped at the local record store in Waldorf, Md. It was drizzling rain and i walked up the aisle and saw the cd cover also. I thought "hey, this looks interesting" the name of the album really threw me off but, i wanted something new so....... I got in the car with the alpine, loaded it up and as soon as i heard the intro with the boy crying, i thought "fack !! They got me" but when that beat dropped on push it along.....i was instantly hooked forever!!!

I read a Q-Tip interview where he said since Ali was the DJ people thought he produced the tracks but Tip said he did them, not Ali.. the wording of the quote made it sound like Tip was the actual production mastermind in the studio.. and his career post tribe has proven that could be the case, while Ali hasn’t done much. Hard to say without having been in the room at the time but to this day I’m not sure what Ali really did other than scratch.
@reimourrpower93575 жыл бұрын
Note in YT description and the session here Ali did "Push It Along" and "Clap Your Hands" and possibly other for Tribe and "La Schmoove" for Fu-Schnickens. He moved on to work on "Brown Sugar" for D'Angelo, production for Gil-Scott Heron, Lucy Pearl, The Midnight Hour with Adrian Younge doing the Luke Cage soundtrack, and many things we likely do not know about. It appers that he had. Tribe as concept group Ali said were influenced by The Beatles and that idea of Lennon / McCartney sharing most all credits ended up being problematic later and Tribe may have gone through the same struggle; folks thought they all did the music together which obscured their individual acheivements and props. I'd assume that from this interview Ali did not have as much of "producer ego" that made him want to tell the world 'I did this & that'. That works more the Pharell / Neptunes, Dr. Dre and Timbaland types; not knocking that at all, they are masters at their craft. Ali appears to be much more about exploring the music and new ways of getting to people without the superstar fanfare.

@@KardiFan2000 not true; listen carefully again and take note of the songs Ali produced in the description. Tip made probably most but NOT all the Tribe songs.
@KardiFan20005 жыл бұрын
@@reimourrpower9357 It's a FACT that Q-Tip produced the vast majority of Tribe's music. Ali definitely had a hand in a lot of it as a co-producer/DJ, but remember, between Tip and Ali...Tip is the perfectionist, so final decisions on any beats would've went through him anyway.
@elismith83565 жыл бұрын
@@KardiFan2000 I doubt you we're in attendance for any of The Tribes studio sessions.So u cant really say who did what its all he say she say. Also remember later on Dilla made a ton of beats. Ali did make quite a few beats for the group maybe not nearly as much as tip, but then again I wasnt in the lab either.He did some dope production 4 the "Lucy Pearl" album as well I believe. R.I.P. agreed...... both interviewer and Ali seem reluctant to tread any new ground with this. Any old skool DJ/MC could drone on about insignificant stuff like this. It lacks energy or intensity. Too many blunts ? Or selling millions of records creates an overly chilled mindset.
