How to make boring things fun: 1. Finding meaning in what you do 2. Translate your work into accomplishments 3. Find creative ways to go about it 4. Shorten the feedback loops 5. Take ownership of your outcome, process and beliefs (more responsibilities; do it with others) 6. scarcity (make what you do about getting that little 'something' you really want) 7. unpredictability and curiosity 8. use fear of loss to achieve goals

I completely agree with Ali's view that the main motivator behind doing something is finding the "epic" meaning or purpose in your life. I used this in my 10th grade and my grades sky-rocketed while I was genuinely enjoying the process. I used to envision myself as a highly successful person ( like Elon Musk or Newton) and my brain would automatically switch to "Deep-work" mode while naturally incorporating the other elements of gamification such as creativity, ownership etc

Definitely a shift in editing style- there’s probably a happy medium between this new and old. A few extra flourishes would add important emphasis but this time was a little wild.

Timestamps: 0:00 - Intro 2:02 - Find your calling (where does work fit in the broader mission?) 2:24 - Development and accomplishment (achieving something motivates you to work more) 3:28 - Creativity and feedback (figure out new strategies to achieve your goals, and test your self regularly to shorten feedback loops) 5:19 - Ownership and possession (Take initiative when you are working and responsibility over the process, belief and outcome) 8:44 - Social influence and relatedness (if we do things as a friends makes it more fun) 10:15 - Scarcity (wanting something we don't have) 10:33 - Unpredictability and curiosity 10:50 - Loss and avoidance (e.g. put money on the line to make sure you do work by the deadline) First 5 points are most applicable to our work.

I find using the self-reward system works often. For example, every week, I have target goals for the amount of homework modules, and other tasks. I want done every week.Like, last week, I said, to myself, if I finish editing this psychology assignment today than Saturday, I will give myself the day off from responsibilities.

As someone who loves what he does, that’s some high level bs. Doing the same thing as a hobby and work are completely different things. There are lot more rules and structures involved when you have to do something consistently everyday not to mentioned when your livelihood depends on it.
@SahajTalwar
@SahajTalwar 2 жыл бұрын
@@thesaurness2616 Ofc when you take something up as a profession, you're going to have to devote time to it, you have to learn discipline, you have to learn to adopt responsibility, you're going to have to realise that you gotta put in the work whether you like it or not. But I'd say, thats just growing up. I'd say you shouldnt want it any other way. Learning to adopt responsibility is a part of life, without which its really difficult to find meaning in anything. And I wouldnt want to call adopting that responsibility, work.

I love the “get to” mindset instead of “have to.” I made it a daily habit to think about 3 things I am not really looking forward to, and saying I get to do xxx. Example, I am dreading an exam and have to go take the test. Instead, I get to take an exam since I am able to get a good education, I am grateful to be in this position!! When you take a step back, you can see things from a grander perspective. Love your videos Ali, keep up the great work as always 🤗👏
