I am trying out an Austrian large rucksack which is basically a frameless and slightly modified large ALICE pack. Your video gave me some good ideas. Always enjoy your channel. I confess it did not interest me as much 3 years ago when you posted it originally because I was using a different bag but it has been very helpful.

Thanks for the view, the ALICE is pretty good and certainly my prefered pack compared to the infantry bergen. I have an episode coming up on a couple of camping or bugout bags that I currently use, might be worth a watch for someone. Safe camping mate Bex...

Thank you buddy, I think the old alice is my bug out bag of choice, way better than the UK infantry burgen by far, mine still needs water proofing.

I like the contents of your backpack and the only thing I could do without is the coleman stove due to it's weight. I have the fire starter kit to get a fire going where I will be camping. That way I could keep down the weight and use food to take up part of that weight.

I took the assault pack off the CFP90 and placed it on my lg alice pack. this makes for a great scouting bag after you set up camp,Plus it gives Woodland Camo to the packs back. And of course the molle shoulder straps and kidney belt.

Hi Bex, just been catching up on your early videos, very interesting seeing how your kit has evolved. I had a medium ALICE pack back in the day but without the frame and without the correct Q/R shoulder straps, never managed to get the frame or straps so moved it on but I get the feeling the medium and large ALICE packs with the frame would have been an improvement on the GS and Para bergans with the GS frame. I notice your pack had what looked like a Q/R similar to a GPMG sling on both sides, nice touch, as far as I remember the manual for the ALICE system only listed the Q/R on one strap so you had a nice upgrade there. My ethos is to look after, shelter insulation and have a reliable cook system first. To be honest my camping pack does the same job, tent sleeping bag and stove. Viewers just like to see the surplus element of bug out bags, based on issued kit. Trip duration dictates the extras, food & clothing. My bag of preps extend the duration indefinitely (fishing/hunting), and a preps bag can be added to (any) camping pack in all honesty. If I showed my actual (personal) bug out bag it would be criticised I think, perhaps not heavy enough....lol

@@bexbugoutsurvivor LOL, I think we all like a bit of surplus kit :-) camping kit has a lot going for it apart from weight, in a bug out situation in much of the UK and probably most western european countries you're not going to be too far from civilisation, you could be moving in/out of an urban area and full combat kit isn't going to make you the grey man. 100% agree Shelter, insulation, cooking are the foundation, the skills required to obtain food water then extras as required if you have the skills/knowledge to use them but knowledge and skills are easy to carry :-)

That is an older Alice pack. Swap out those buckles with plastic quick release ones. And go to MOLLE shoulder and waist belt for way more added comfort. Humped these In U S Marines for 4 years and is the ONLY bag I use. I have a medium and a large Alice pack both with frames. Also I cut a plastic large tall kitchen trash bucket to 11" and put that in the pack.

+USMC H&S 2/9 As soon as I have some pennies I will refit the straps for molle. Not sure what the trash bucket is for, heard it may be for trapping. keep me up dated to the idea behind the trash bucket, have a few packs now and the ALICE is one of my favourites. I like to use mine for a hammock camp PLCE, the closest thing we have here in the UK is the SAS bergen 80s pattern. ATB Bex

I cut trash can to 11" and use it to pl;ace my waterproof gear in and give form to pack. you can use it for wash tub and other things but I don't. just a hard internal space.
@redriverscout4404
@redriverscout4404 7 жыл бұрын
Great idea with trash can. Mine is an Austrian version of the Alice and the straps and belt are pretty good stock. Not a fan of fastex buckles though. You live where I do in the winter and plastic buckles break like glass. I do like that the Austrians replaced all the metal buckles with brace so you don't have to worry about corrosion.

Does your water filter. Filter out pesticides and herbicides out of river water?
@bexbugoutsurvivor
@bexbugoutsurvivor 5 жыл бұрын
I dont know of ANY filters that do filter, pesticides and herbacides or agricultural run off, use you best judgement, Ive filtered this stream many times, no ill effect.....Geen/blue algae would ring alarm bells. If water is flowing and you can see the bottom, is better, but the risk is on the user. Charcole based filters better than mico weave filters, buy filters featuring a minimum of 0.01 microns to aid viral removal. Boiling will not remove run off either...Bex

@@bexbugoutsurvivor any river in england has farmland runoff. So why waist £60 only a water filter when a t-shirt and a pan can can do the same thing?
@stephen-truthseeker
@stephen-truthseeker 5 жыл бұрын
So basically water filters don't filter chemicals. Best off making a filter from charcoal then.
@bexbugoutsurvivor
@bexbugoutsurvivor 5 жыл бұрын
@@stephen-truthseeker A t shirt and pan to boil would work just as effectivly, some hikers prefere not to boil, some do. I carry filters for convenience, but boiling will work if no filter is available. I ve used both methods...As why waisting £60, its purly personal preferance I guess...
@bexbugoutsurvivor

@@stephen-truthseeker Nothing will illiminate run off, charcoal filters, or crushed charcoal from a camp fire in a t shirt and sand and grasses, will illiminate pathogens and water bourne parasites, never run off. The risk is at the hikers own descresion....
