I saw her at the Montreal Jazz Festival in 2004 and the next year I went to London for 3 days in the middle of a trip to Belgium. While in London, I went to a small jazz bar. There was a band playing and they recieved a note that someone wanted to sing a song with them. The band didn't seems to like the request but another note came from the bar manager so they acepted. I was at the first table beside the little stage and I saw her come by to sing. Nobody seemed to know her back then, her fisrt CD was out but not well known yet I guess. So they agreed for one song and it was Sumertime. Great song, great memories. After the song I went to her table to thank her and tell her that I loved her show in Montreal.

Amy would be the only one who can take a Beatles song and reinvent it. And she never had to push herself. She was the most natural singer, with natural instincts for creativity and unique expression. Nah. Not an old soul. An old soul does not go out the way she did. In fact, I think of her as exactly the opposite. She must have been a newborn soul, with not many times on the wheel under her belt. This is not to take away from the talent she expressed, because clearly this time she was blessed. It's only to say an aspect of old soul is an understanding, a way of comporting yourself, she clearly lacked. And I don't mean this as a criticism of her. We're all on that same path, aren't we? So I place no judgement on how she lived her stretch of time. It's just unfortunate she went out so young. We'll never know what she might have become. So it goes..

I'm a Beatles fan and I dont say it often but this is a nice cover. I like it when artists do a song differently and not just copy a song
@Zoologic214 жыл бұрын
I'm the opposite. It seems like celebrities will take advantage of the name and popularity of a song and change it up just to impose their preference of music, the instrumentation, runs, riffs, all displayed on an already known creation which people go to see, largely, if not entirely because of the title of the cover. It's not "copying" a song, it's faithful tribute. It doesn't take much to sing someone else's song in your own usual, comfortable style. While there is some validity to not wanting to keep things replicated exactly, too many liberties get tiresome and annoying to put up with. It's as if the point of doing the cover is thrown out the window and all but the lyrics remain.

Bullshit. Even a Eric Clapton would have played like that on this song without any solos and just a few licks. If you want to find out, if someone's "special", you would have to listen his solo-work, something he composed or plays a far more present role. Then you could say something about versatility, inventiveness and style. From this little song you can see that he has his own style and knows how to communicate perfectly with a singer.

Yes, I was a 17 year old kid in Germany for a school break and out of the country for the second time that year. I’m from Mississippi. I was constantly hearing German, which I didn’t speak well yet, and I really clung to the radio because a lot of songs were in English of course. I remember riding in a car with my boyfriend at the time, and Rehab came on. (Not even my fave song of hers), but THAT VOICE. It took my breath away. I’d never heard anything like it. Still haven’t. I was so blown away when I looked her up to see this tiny little gorgeous lady with big hair and an even bigger voice. I was hooked. This was 2006. I miss her daily. Her music grew me. How is it possible that people didn't let her do this more often, like she longed for SO MUCH. I believe that she wouldn't had to die so young if they let her of the hook, not playing for those superlarge audiences and in stead let her enjoy more scenes like this

Cliff, there are plenty of British singers that I've listened to that I couldn't tell were from the UK. Elton John, Keith Richards, Rod Stewart, all of which I couldn't hear their accent in their music. The accent gets diluted when people sing, especially when there is loud music surrounding the vocals.
@sebasdebordeaux83475 жыл бұрын
I love her too, really I'm amazed by her voice, and also by the person she was, but franckly I must confess I don't like this interpretation of this song. she vocalizes too much, it adds nothing to the song, which melody needs the purity and simplicity of singing Paul gave it.

I met Amy in 2003, the year before this was shot. Her debut album had literally just dropped, so it must have been the Autumn of that year. I had my shiny new 3rd-generation iPod, and was bumping "Stronger Than Me" (still my favourite), which I'd ripped off Limewire. Hardly anybody had them then, and nobody knew Amy at all. I'd heard rumours about this amazing singer; she was doing a promo tour of little bars around the country. She stood there, this tiny thing with a white guitar in front of the audience - no more than 20 people. I was totally skeptical - until she opened her mouth. She shocked everybody into silence; her performance was incredible. When it was over, I went outside and she was sat at a table alone, having a smoke. "I stole your music online. Can I buy you a beer to make up for it?" She laughed. I sat down, and we had a nice chat for good few minutes. I can barely remember what we talked about now, but I made a move and asked for her number - she carried a little silver phone; so damned pretty and easy company, I was determined to seize my chance and ask her out for a little lightweight date to show her around the city - Manchester can be mad fun - and meet my friends. "Ah! I can't. I'm off on the tour bus tonight." She was going to Edinburgh - or was it London? I'm so happy to have been an early fan, and spent time in her company. It all got lost with the drugs, mayhem, and that pr*ck she married - who introduced her to addiction. I do sometimes wonder, in my dreamy alternative-universe way, if I could have saved her. A short life was her fate, and we must celebrate sharing her time, and her sharing ours. I miss you Amy. We all do.

The core Amy singing the kind of music she loved to sing and was born to sing, before she was swept up by the greedy demons of the record industry, opportunistic addicted boyfriends and her own unresolved issues that she self medicated. The talent and muse are most present here in this style of singing, and we can all appreciate her pleasure as she sings.
