1:16 A little bit of Alien trivia for those of you who want it, but the idea that this is some sort of shuttle separate from the Nostromo is actually a somewhat common misconception. That ship is actually just the Nostromo itself. The thing it undocks from is the mineral refinery it was towing as cargo, like a truck pulling an oversized load trailer. Other than being part of the background info explaining what the Nostromo and her crew were doing out in space to begin with, it's never really plot relevant and nobody ever goes inside.

@@Serby665 Turns out that Lambert was born male and had her sex changed (parents wanted a girl??) at birth :confused Kane is an ex alcoholic and substance abuser, who switched from medical crew to avoid the temptation of raiding med supplies. Brett is smarter than Parker but has been unable to progress in WY due to a criminal record after an abusive childhood. Ripley was on her way to a starry career, before breaking the rules of her contract by becoming pregnant. The Nostromo run was to be her final trip for WY as she wanted to look after her daughter on her return. Dallas has authority issues.

So I was curious about this and looked it up. From the defunct website Nostromo Files, there are sketches based on concept art, set design, and some loose ideas done up by Ron Cobb, a concept artist for the production. There are two shuttle bays under the wings of the Nostromo, supposedly. They are located on Deck B. Ripley would have been sitting in that big control room they all are in during the landing sequence if she was taking the whole Nostromo to escape. Instead you see her sitting in a little cockpit, connected to the smaller room of sleep chambers, setting the heading for the shuttle after she escapes. You are right though that the Nostromo is the winged ship and the refinery are the big towers it's towing that they never go into.

The nose bleed was from a scene not included in the film where Ripley lures the Alien into an airlock but it sees them and runs, the nose bleed is from the pressure drop in that scene, continuity that ended up not being continuity

Fun fact: facts should be true. And this sadly is not. At least not entirely. Noone on set, including the SFX guys knew how the bloodsplatter would look. They had cowblood and simply no idea on how much to use. So they took what seemed "enough" and told the actors there would be some blood. there was indeed "some" blood. And then some more. And some more. So the actors were told according to best knowledge. Best knowledge just wasn't very good. Similar thing with the Death Star explosion from Star Wars. They had no idea how much explosives to use. So they just guesstimated. And it was glorious. If you want an actual Alien fun fact: They played a pretty weird prank on Sigourney Weaver while filming Aliens. The powerloader was a suit worn by a guy. Like the old japanese Godzilla suits. They added an inflatable cushion in the back behind the seatcushions. And when Sigourney entered the powerloader they inflated it, making her think the guy in the suit was getting an erection from her rubbing against him. She was still professional about it. Still pretty weird though.

Supposedly there's a cut scene in which Ripley lures the alien to an airlock (or something of this nature) and the sudden drop in pressure causes the alien some damage. Supposedly that's why Ripley has that random nosebleed as well. I don't know how true this is though because I can only see people talking about it and I can't confirm it through any official means so it's most likely just fan theory.

Look, Prometheus crushed my soul when I watched it, because of the ease of helmet removal like a 1950s space movie, and the running from the straight thing falling straight on you, while never just moving left of right, and not getting smooshed. But once I just accepted it for what it was, it was better to me, not good, but better. Alien was and still is a fantastic movie, but if you think about it, and look at it too critically it shows its flaws. You're not wrong, and this movie isn't sacred or nothing to me, but I myself have learned I could ruin anything I've ever liked even a little, by scrutinizing them, even a little. But again, you ain't wrong.

​@@galloe8933 What you're really referring to is the "willing suspension of disbelief" that is necessary for any fiction to be enjoyed, and yes, it's possible to ruin even the most masterful work of fiction if you refuse to suspend your disbelief. The thing is, though, abusing the audience's willingness to suspend their disbelief is just bad writing, and parts of the original alien are just REALLY bad in this regard, probably the worst being buddy sticking his face right into the opening of an alien egg that obviously reacted to his presence, and which is quite obviously related to whatever killed the pilot of the alien ship. Even the dumbest humans have a sense of self preservation, so this move is so ineffably stupid that it jarrs the audience and diminishes the film overall. Not saying Alien is a terrible film by any means, just that they could easily have written this aspect much better.

This released when I was in my third year of an Auto mechanic apprenticeship in the Australian Army. Remember getting posted to one of the crappiest places to be, but really good for learning a trader, to do my final 2 years of training (Puckapunyal Workshop). This movie was the highlight of that posting (apart from finishing training and getting my trade certification) and being the spotty faced and awkward youth I was at the time, started a very healthy and long lasting crush on Sigourney Weaver. Yeah, back then an Apprenticeship involved being indentured for 4 years, all at reduced pay. But the training was brilliant.
