The directors cut was stuff Ridley was asked to release on one of the anniversaries of this movie. He said he agreed the theatrical release is the best cut. And that he only shot so much film, and didn’t cut much. Basically what is added back into the directors cut is what he considered unnecessary the first time around and said the theatrical is still the better representation of his vision initially.

The voice of "Mother" is so iconic, in my honest opinion. There's something unnerving about a cold feminine voice counting down to your death. It wasn't until GLaDOS that we rediscovered that a computerized female voice can be absolutely creepy. Fun Fact: The dead facehugger that Ash autopsies was made using fresh shellfish, four oysters, and a sheep kidney to re-create the internal organs. Filming had to be done quickly because the organic material would go bad very fast under the studio lights. Bonus Fun Fact: It was conceptual artist Ron Cobb who came up with the idea that the Alien should bleed acid. This came about when Dan O'Bannon ran into a wall with the screenplay in how to handle the last half of the movie. He needed a good reason for why the crew members don't just shoot the thing and kill it but still not make it an indestructible monster that can't be killed. The acid blood was the idea that solved this problem.

At 14:50 when they shot out Kanes body in space is actually proper "sailor" (I gues space man) funeral too. Sailor people used that if anyone die on the ship during voyage. Since sea-ship voyages vere so long weeks, months long if not more. They would release bodies on the sea on their "final voyage" and not keep it on the ship. I guess sci fi writers and I find it fitting too that spacemans would fire dead people in space on their "final flight"..... Though I think they could cremate it too if they had machinery for it.

My dude! I loved the part where Ripley screamed "Shut up!" and you were all like, "Okay, I be quiet for a minute". That made me laugh! Such a great performance by Sigourney Weaver in this film. I wish Hollywood would recognize her more. She's such a humble and graceful person, especially as she's gotten older. I'm digging watching your reactions this Halloween season!

Went on a date to see this. Had a giant tub of pop corn in my lap. Every time I jumped it "snowed" pop corn. Date said, "Give me that. You're wasting it." Sigourney Weaver helped to show how bad ass a woman can be and it be believable. She's tough but shows she still mortal by being afraid and SMART how so goes about doing what she needs to. Nothing wrong with being afraid, we all are at times. But when you are afraid and still do what you must do, you face your fear head on. This is what separates men/women from boys/girls. Ripley was the role model for Billions of women/girls worldwide. She helped future roles for the bad ass women to follow in her foot steps. Not everyone can be Ripley but so many have tried. Don't be Ripley, but use her strength and willingness to face her fear as a blueprint. Just my 2 cents.

Some of the rest of the cast were more famous and well known than Sigourney Weaver at the time. None of us expected her to end up being the lone survivor. In fact I'd never heard of Sigourney before this movie but I knew Tom Skerritt (Dallas) and Veronica Cartwright though. Cartwright was originally supposed to play Ripley but they decided to change to Sigourney right before shooting started I believe. All we knew about this movie before it came out was the tagline "In space no one cam hear you scream". That was it.

That dog! lol As for Dallas and the others, there is a version with a deleted scene where Ripley is returning to the escape vessel and finds them. They are in the process of being turned into more eggs to hatch and impregnate more hosts. Dallas, still semi aware, moans out to Ripley to kill him. She does, and kills Brett too. The Alien lifecycle, at least as far as Giger intended, is horrific on all fronts.

One of the best things about Alien is that the characters really react like actual people given the situations they're in and there's always some sort of foreshadowing that indicates their character and how they might act going forward. Great reaction!

Fun fact bro you know when Kane wakes up and talks about I remember some horrible dream about smothering is a reference to the aliens telepathic powers they can give you nightmares with their telekinesis ability in the alien lore not many people know about that small detail and this is the only moment in the whole franchise where they tap around that concept hope that helps

1. Ripley says to Parker, "You'll get what's coming to you." is prophetic. 2. There's a COC in the civilian world too. Cooperation wanted access to the Alien. That becomes more clear in the second one. 3. Note to you: If they "don't go in" we don't have a movie. 4. Dallas/Tom Skerritt also played in "Top Gun" as Viper and "Up in Smoke" as Strawberry to name a couple. 5. Harry Dean Stanton had a very fat character resume. "Escape from New York", "Christine" and "Red Dawn". 6. We lost HDS and Yaphet Kotto just last year. Kotto's noteworthy role was "Brubaker". 7. The hanging bodies Ripley sees near the end was not in the original release.

One thing almost everyone forgets when the alien first emerges, is that it has acid for blood. So when someone tries to stab it and they're told not to touch it, the acid should be the first thing on the viewers' mind. Instead they all seem to get mad and forget that a hole in a ship, that's floating around through space, would be a really bad/deadly thing! Now we all know the real reason that Ash said not to touch it... But seriously, the acid should be everyone's first thought in that moment.

Mother is the central computer that controls the ship...she handles everything when they are asleep. they got no weapons because this is a supply ship...it's not equipped for rescue or recon...which makes mother's request all the more strange :/

I love your reaction! I saw this movie when it first came out in '79. (I was 22). I remember the trailer being played on TV. I went to see it with my boyfriend at the time and I was scared before the movie even started. There was some major screaming going on in that theater! P.S. Yay Ravens! I'm a native Washingtonian and lived in Maryland in my childhood. Love me some Ravens!
