In reality, it would be an army of snipers. For example, in the US, there are about 22 million hunters. Most hunting involves the key elements of sniping, quiet, concentration, moving in on wary prey, and accurate shots at a fairly long distance. Those 22 million hunter-snipers outnumber the combined land militaries of every military in the world combined - a force that would make a land invasion of America a very high-casualty venture. Snipers expand on the excellence, the observation, the mastery of terrain, and the strategy and are just amazing, but their impact is a reminder of why the Founding Fathers, knowing that their armed populace was the key to defeating the British army, at that time the best infantry in the world, passed the Second Amendment to ensure that for all the generations to come both invaders and would-be tyrants would be stymied by an armed populace able to defend their liberty.

@britcat7780…..yup, I completely agree with you. We also have bow hunters, trappers, and plenty of Vets that would absolutely love another chance to defend our country.

@@davidj.leavitt7176 Good observation. Bow hunters are the coolest to me - it takes a whole higher level of skill in tracking and movement to get into range and strike with a bow. They would be awesome snipers. From having lived all around the world over the years, my personal conclusion is that populations vary a lot in terms of their patriotism, territoriality, and propensity to independent action and comfort with violence. While I hope America keeps our enemies overseas and deterred, my impression is that if push came to shove, Americans now would react with the same ferocity and lethality that the Patriots in the revolutionary era fought. Americans are a rather aggressive, perhaps an unusually aggressive, hardy people, self-organizing, not prone to take a lot of BS - especially Americans in the rural areas. There are, of course, lots of other regions with similar home team attitudes.
