Alien Covenant ruined anything good going for the Prometheus trilogy. It basically put an end to the exciting new prequel story and forced Ridley Scott to go back to the drawing board. I have no idea what is going on with the new Alien films but I do know this, Alien Covenant is absolute trash still.
Prometheus had its fair share of issues but they are nothing when compared to the insanely stupid plot of Covenant. The characters are incredibly stupid, the story makes no sense and the visuals took a big step down from the previous film. I rant for almost 20 minutes on the awfulness that is, Alien Covenant.

Watching The Thing on 4K and it dawned on me the issues with the 2011 Thing is like this Alien covenant disaster....they try to remake the classics or repackage them but they lack a certain creative soul, and always come up deficient, whereas the classics themselves have minor flaws, and even with those they are endearingly everlasting and unforgettable.

The studio fucked that movie up. They had practical effects all set up and they looked amazing but the Studio decided they wanted CGI. I bet if they had used the practical the movie would have been a lot better. Probably not even close to The Thing but still a lot better than the 2011 version ended up.

The funniest thing about Covenant was the main 100% thing everyone HATED about Alien 3, that sunk that franchise was they killed popular characters offscreen. They in this film, they literally made that same mistake again. Like they learned nothing. And they way, way, way overestimated how much people liked Fassbender's android robot character. He was not even the lead of the first movie. It was just a complete misfire and actually made Prometheus worse.

I had never been furious in a movie theatre before due to the movie itself, but Alien Covenant was the exception. Also, the decision by Fox to remove integral scenes and put them online instead of in the movie had the effect of eliminating almost all element of characterisation from the film.

I still have a sweet spot for Alien Covenant. It gave me my favorite Honest Trailer. Which brought me to tears laughing. And of course this rant from Adam. So in the end AC is a sweet win. Not when it comes to the movie on release or even after. But i'll embrace the YT spinoffs of the franchise with all my heart.

The more I think about this movie, the more I hate it. Because the more I think about it, I realize that almost EVERYTHING about this movie is so pathetically stupid. I can see the potential there with the setup, but it's done completely wrong, and just flat out bad. Wtf were they thinking making this trash? Some of the action scenes were ok, but even those parts felt a bit hollow and boring most of the time. All of the characters have to be some of the most idiotic I've ever seen in my life. And the way time passes in this movie seems completely off and unrealistic. The editing and pacing is terrible. The CGI looks bad. Crazy how a movie from 1986 can have much MUCH better visuals and effects.... And it's kind of amazing how every single character that dies means nothing. It's pointless. Even the ones that make it to the end get over their friends deaths disturbingly fast lol.... It's just baffling how bad it is. It feels insulting to the entire franchise. Alien Resurrection had more entertainment value than this complete turd, and that's just laughably sad.

I thought Prometheus had some issues but I thought a good follow up would patch a lot of that up. In stead it made it harder for me to really understand anything. I thought it would have been cool if David used and tricked Shaw into harboring an alien queen and that charlize would show up save the day by forcing a ship full of eggs to crash on lv426. at the same time revealing that she to was an android copy of Waylands lost daughter but never was excepted. But then david in a final moment manage to send a distress call. A perfect messiah complex arch.

This is one of two movies I've seen (the other one was The Last Jedi) where I thought it would be great because of earlier movies in the same franchise (though I didn't like Prometheus) or good trailers (The trailer for The Last Jedi was really good...it just did not reflect the horribleness (if that is a word) of the "Wtfh is going on?" movie). It left me baffled with a lost of faith in humanity (and probably gave me brain cancer or at least herpes). But compared to The Last Jedi, this is a masterpiece though. It just craps all over the lore and make no or very little sense.

I must disagree with the prevailing opinion that Alien 3 is terrible. It's been significantly redeemed by the Assembly Cut. It would be a terrible shame it social media fan pressure convinced the studio to retcon it ... And what for? A retread of Aliens? Alien 3 Assembly Cut is a very poetic ending for the trilogy. If there's any retconning to go around, it should happen after that point.

Normally a prequel is a bad idea, in general, because it usually eliminate all the cool mystery of those characters. But in this case it´s even worse. The xenomorphs needed to be a mystery, a creature from a a remote planet that maybe existed long before there were humans on Earth. The idea that humans were in part responsable of that creation makes the universe much smaller. I hate it. For me this franchise goes from Alien to Alien: Resurrection (yes, I enjoyed a lot that fun crazy movie with the European flavour that Jeunet gave us). All AvP, these prequels... are fanfics.

So many things about this film didnt make sense to me. The most absurd part is that we are shown Walter throwing David around like a rag doll. He's much faster and stronger and yet,, just as they're all leaving, literally in those 3 minutes, he's able to switch clothes, remove his hand, swallow the alien embryos, and make it to the ship. Only Walter had self-healing skin. If you got there and saw the first thing this android does is cut his hair so he looks like Walter, you'd probably be on guard. Yet when she sees his face cut and not healing on its own (as Walter would) she doesnt even realize it. That whole switch was just ridiculous. If they had shown them as more equally matched and he had some realistic amount of time, then maybe, but the way they did it. I was like, not in a million years. She wouldve realized it right away bc the future of humanity was at stake. Or maybe not bc she's a dolt. Cant have it both ways.

Obviously the xenomorph alien was not a native animal. The black goo is the actual alien life form, and the point of Prometheus was to explain how humans came to be, not the xenomorph, but the irony is that OUR origin story IS the origin story of the xenomorph since only a human host yields a xenomorph alien. The irony is that the xenomorph is created "literally and physically" in the image of humans, but it took the Android who humans created in their image to complete the work of the engineers, who created humans in their own image just to create the xenomorph.

Prometheus was interesting because it elucidated the mystery of the alien ship from the first alien movie. I was always curious what the thing seated in that chair was. Anyway, the reveal wasn't exactly mind blowing but it wasn't bad either. Also the main character, Elisabeth Shaw was a very good character in my opinion. Then this abomination showed up. It wasn't really an Alien film, it was a movie about a crazy android with a god complex and had aliens in it. I can't blame the actor since he plays two parts, respectively the good android and the bad one. I liked the good one, not quite Bishop but not bad. The bad android was supposed to be some kind of super AI psycho but the vibe it gave off was "creepy douchebag". Anyway, after that movie I dread what will follow, since Prometheus was not much of a improvement on the franchise and covenant was a disaster. I am afraid that if that pattern continues the Alien franchise will die and that truly is a pity.

In the first film the mystery of not knowing where they came from was really scary. Covenant ruined that not knowing their origins. what a franchise fucker!

I'm sorry but nothing is as bad as Alien 3. This was fun and fascinating to me. I loved the way they manually fixed the ship. It felt like watching 2001: A Space Odyssey. And the original Alien was made to look like that and feel like Texas Chainsaw. And I loved how they made me completely hate and despise the android, David
