Alien: Isolation is a first-person survival horror stealth game developed by The Creative Assembly and published by Sega, part of the Alien franchise.
The game is set in 2137, 15 years after the events of Alien and 42 years prior to Aliens. The game follows Amanda, who is investigating the disappearance of her mother Ellen Ripley. Amanda was transferred to the space station Sevastopol to find the flight recorder of Nostromo. However, an Alien has already infested the station.

My first play through took me about 30 hours. 10 of those hours took place inside lockers. Still 2014 goty though.

Not everyone plays games the same way, and if they were having fun, then who are you to say they were doing it wrong. Personally, I hated the industrial synths the most because of a couple of frustrating moments.

Ik it's an old game with old graphics, but give system shock 2 to a go, it's at the Apex of this genre, or at the very least looks up some ingame audio logs, but I'd say that would be spoiling the overall experience

Scariest androids I've ever seen in a video game. They are utterly hateful and psychotic and their animations when coming up to you and beating the $£%^ out of you are so realistic... you really get the feeling like they want to break all your bones.

I thought 'Aliens: Isolation' was fantastic on my first play-through, but then I went back through it a couple more times and realized that it wasn't all that good. If they would've made it a little more like 'Prey 2017', then it would've been much better..

I'm closing in on 400 hours played of this game (mostly clawing my way to the top ten of challenge modes) and I've mapped out most of the alien's responses. He has multiple 'states' of aggravation and suspicion, and these determine what he will do given the situation. Watch his tail, tells you a lot.

***** It completely depends on what you do. The items you pick up, the pace you're moving at, the things you interact with. That is what he is honing in on. If he can't find you, he'll wander, and it's a roll of the dice at that point.

He is also able to learn your moves and counteract them. For example if you use the flame thrower a lot, you will need more bursts every timeyou use or if you hide too often it will start to lure you out and attack when you do so.

+Ilja Unbekannt actually no. It takes 50 units of flame thrower fuel to make the alien run, always. As long as you're hitting him. If you're just making him hesitate by showing him fire, he gets more bold over time.

Friendly Metroid interesting... but if you want to have the fire directly touch the Alien you need to fire as late as possible making it pretty dangerous.

But if you're holding a lit flame thrower, he will hold sort of connecting with you, and do a little grrr animation which is a perfect moment to shoot. During that animation you can do anything, including run away, and he won't chase until that animation is done.

This game was fucking brilliant. By far one of the top game of the genre you could play. Everything was great, especially the long tension building intro before you see the alien. They nailed it.

Besides the few nuances you mentioned I have to say this game is one of the best titles i've played in the past few years. The pacing and delivery of the story is amazing. Captures the atmosphere of the first Alien film perfectly and beautifully. Shits all over Destiny and its 500 million dollar hype budget. I swear this looks like it cost 500 million to make.

I had a unique experience in Alien: Isolation A glitch during a chase/escape sequence. I pressed the button to climb out of the vent I was in, but a xeno was right above me, so as I press the button, a death animation started playing, but then the animation was interrupted by the animation of me climbing out of the vent, and the Xenomorph had gone poof and vanished. The tense music suddenly stopped, but the explosions all around kept going (though the shaking screen effect stopped), so I'm just standing there, looking around, completely confused, searching every corner of this area that you're not really supposed to get a chance to explore because it's a chase sequence, and only after spending a lot of time dicking around, did I go to the depressurization room thing where you were supposed to escape. And suddenly the xeno reappears for the cutscene. It was the ONLY major glitch I encountered during my playthrough, and I think it was because of a frame perfect button timing coincidence.

You said how the alien sometimes "looks at you and doesn't see you". If you have a look into alien lore there is some belief that the alien can't see and works using smell and other senses.

There are only 3 sounds in life that inspires in me absolute dread: The sound of facehuggers running in AvP 1. The sound of the xeno tumbling out of a vent in this game. The clacking of a Slack notification.

Several stuff in this review are wrong: Coated Working Joes can be killed, and in fact, you don't need the EMP rifle, you can also hit their faces with the stunt baton (its hard to aim, but it does work) not to mention the shotgun and the pistol also hurt them. Also, the alien does not follow you if you didn't called his attention. The more noises you make, the more it will come back to the place you are. He is not stupid. Also, you mention the alien AI is weird, because it didn't spotted you under the table. Actually, you can see the video was taken from a "NORMAL" difficulty, and there the alien has reduced senses. In nightmare mode, the result of that video will be instant kill. Overall, this is the BEST alien ever made. And it has a lot of replayability. And the backtracking is not such as some complaint (guess they had to nitpick something, and that was the plain evident thing they noticed). When you come back to the same rooms, they are totally different. The hospital level, first has humans, later has droids, later is burning down.....the environment is totally different.

Yeah...best Alien game this is not. The very best it the first AVP game on PC. The only thing this game does better is of course the atmosphere and graphics. Had Sega gone with a Colonial Marines format with this games visual fidelity it would be remembered by all as the very best.

I think this was a great game, and a really big surprise coming from a dev studio that normally specializes in strategy/conquest titles (see Total War). If this game is any indication of the level of quality CA can achieve in other genres, they definitely deserve to branch out more.

I wouldn't say it happened quickly, I've been doing these videos for almost 2 years now. But I guess just make sure you're doing something you enjoy? I did my channel because there was no one I could see doing FPS games primarily and that's a genre I have a lot of love for. Geier mandated that the creature have no eyes, because he felt that it made them much more frightening if you could not tell they were looking at you. So its blind it seems, thats why it wouldnt react to you when it looked straight at you.

The xenomorph can see and it has eyes. Due to the dome head it can't see as well as a human but it does have enhanced senses; smelling and hearing.

I like how everyone in the game mispronounces Sevastopol, but I guess it fits the theme of 70-80s movies. As for the game itself, my biggest issue is human models and animations. Such things weren't acceptable 5 years ago, especially if you're making a game with rich atmosphere to immerse the player. Top grade work on environments, though.

I still play this game just to explore the station. Four years on and I've memorized a lot of the station's layout because I purposefully stopped progressing right before you board the Anisadora. Also turning off the music and listening to the ambience of the station and the alien's footateps is incredibly immersive still.

Apparently the Alien DOES have health, if you look into the AI code for the Alien it has a set health amount. And the NPC version from Gmod can be killed as it has a death animation which makes me believe that the Xeno could be killed in earlier versions of the game before it was scrapped at some point during development.

30 seconds in and this review is way better than IGNs. Also, im aware it has some emulation issues, but everyone should check out Alien Ressurection for the ps1. Its pretty dated and frustrating at times, but it was one of the few alien games to get the atmosphere correct, and its certainly better than the film lol

Those industrial synthetics pissed me off, I was full up on EMP bombs that were suddenly useless. At least pipe bombs still worked. Finally beat it on survivor the other day and I'd love to see a sequel on the 9th generation announced soon. Hopefully the switch port makes it financially viable.

Dome-Candy Games I think the guy from IGN didn't really understand Alien Isolation, he seems to dislike it because of how unpredictable the Alien was and for how long and hard the game is, which for me, is what makes the game so enjoyable. I think we're so used to games spoonfeeding us the entire time that when something is unabashedly difficult, it's seen in a negative way.

the game is SUPERB if you ever imagined what it is like to be in the situation where you are the prey. this is THE game. The fact that it's the original Alien hunting you is the icing on the cake. (i mean the original badass 1st movie can;t kill it Alien not the crappy little insects they evolved into for Aliens) the guy from IGN was expecting COD xenomorph edition. this game hates you, this game does not want you to win, this game wants to kill you at every turn. this game is not your regular generic FPS shooter that holds your hand the entire way through, shows you exactly where to go and exactly what keys to press when you get there. I think the problem is that a lot of gamers have been playing these watered down, aim assist, hand holding experiences for so many years now that they think they are badass gamers. Alien isolation proves them VERY wrong and they go crying to their mommy :)

The devs busted their ass to make this game as authentic asthestically to the original Alien movie as possible, while also taking the time to make the atmosphere or the game as scary as possible without having to resort to constant jump scares.

About the scene you were showing where "the alien was looking directly at you", it was not as the head was not directly tilted towards you. The field of view the alien AI reacts to is based on the difficulty setting you are playing on so if you crank up the difficulty those problems should not occur. Also the behaviour of the alien is not randomized but follows certain patterns. For example if you hid under tables or in closets too often it will preferably start to look for you on those places. Also if you use your flamethrower for example the alien will become more aggressive.

some info for alien UI: he learning how u playing (you more using hide spots like lockers= he will check lockers more often) also alien have 2 "brains". 1st know where u are and 2nd control "body" and trying to find u. 1st brain giving hints to 2nd one so longer u stay in 1 place more likely he will find u

I do agree that the whole flipping switches and mix fix it all draged on a bit too long, you should have discused a far more serious flaw of this game, the fact that it has so many climactic moments that make you thinks it's going to end on a high note, when in reality, they stretched the game a bit more just so you could finish it by pressing 3 buttons.

Are we really gonna ignore that fact that there is NO AUTO SAVE option??. You can sometimes go through parts spending 10-15 minutes only to have the alien glitch out and pull you out of a locker. And then you have to do the entire section over again.

I wasn't expecting a review of this so soon. The game seems like it could have definitely done by having its run time shortened. I'm just after starting some of it anyway. There's a big difference between 10 and 20 hours alright. Most publications do tend to say games are longer than they really are. I remember Dishonored being made out to be around 40 hours long before its release. It took me about ten.

Gggmanlives that guy just seemed like a pussy that's probably not used to playing hard games. I don't think most of the IGN staff even have much experience with gaming. Based on some of their videos, they seems like a bunch of casuals.

I think the average length is 20-25 hours, depending on how much one dies and sneaks about. 10-15 is definitely doable if one walks and uses their tools instead of hiding in lockers, heh. Like most survival horror games, players tend not to use their bombs and flare and stuff unless they had to. But those players often find themselves cornered in a locker and forgetting they can "control" the Alien by telling it where to go with sound.

I am more of a strategist I'll look at all of my options and weigh them according to the environment earlier in the game it is very terrifying cuz you're so powerless as the game goes on though you gain more equipment abilities that help you fight the alien off you start to feel like you're more powerful than the alien but then the game starts to prove you wrong it does that throughout the entire game it is one of the most terrifying stressful games you'll ever play in my opinion it is a masterpiece full five stars

As someone who's a huge fan of the games and movies I actually didnt enjoy this game.. The alien constantly hovering around where you are at all times kinda killed it for me. It takes ages to sneak around even if its a small area just because of how stupidly annoying the AI for the alien is. Id throw a noise maker in a area and the alien would completely ignore it and just run straight up to me for some reason. The game looked beautiful and deff scares you but I just found it more of a annoyance to sneak around the alien rather than something thats fun and interesting. I also found it stupid how you couldnt kill the alien at all and I get it, they wanted you to feel powerless to make it more scary but it still just seemed stupid that no matter what you threw at it it wouldnt die. Burning it, shooting it, throwing bombs at it, I dont get why that wouldnt work. If anything they could have just made it to where theyre really hard to kill and then maybe later another one would have found its way there eventually after you had a couple seconds of breathing room to run a bit and to collect stuff before another one arrived making you go back into sneak mode now that your about out of ammo and low on health maybe.

Fun fact there are two AI’s that control that damm thing. One is its own AI that learns over time a bit of your habbits and there is „director AI” which keeps the creature where it should be for the best scare factor :D

The Alien has TWO A.I.s: the one t'has is always looking for you, and another that always knows exactly where you are and it gives "hints" to the other intelligence, so, no matter where you hide, it WILL eventually find you.

Despite being occasionally frustrating and too long in my opinion i thought this was a great game. Beautiful graphics which are faithful to the look of the movies, amazing sound and music and it's tense as hell. It ran like a dream on my crappy old 550ti too.

It also runs like a beauty on my Intel CoreI3 with 8 gigs in ram and an old Geoforce 720M dedicated card and I set the game in the ultra configuration. Creative Assembly really did one hell of job with the optimization for the PC version

Frankly graphics settings in vanilla game lacked pretty badly and jagged edges and blurry graphics overall disturbed me. Only after installing gfx mod introducing proper AA and sharper graphics game looked truely amazing.

I've just finished this game took me 21 hours. Never played it back in the days cause I was too scared to try LOL So I did it and all I can say is damn that game is good. In VR though I would have shitted myself. The ending was meh though. But I'm definitely for sure doing the two DLCs that take place on Alien, the first movie. There's everything in this hale, you go to the planet, you even go outside the station in space, the station is gigantic. Since the start you notice that you will come back in some place because of places to hide that you ain't gonna use. The Working Joe's were terrifying. When you get to the alien nests it's horrible. You can even hear the queen in the game. The saving mechanic made every save scary and made you feel relieved at the same time

I liked the game until the end. Then it went sort of "on rails" like the developers ran out of money or something. And I recommend playing it on easiest setting = then the alien won't bother you as much and you sort of build up more tension before meeting it next time, actually making it scarier.

Your recommendation is ruining it then. Play on Nightmare people. Or at least on Hard. First time through though, I agree with you on the last 20% of the game. On every playthough since(and there have been many), it's never enough. It all goes by so quickly. And we may never get to see what happens next. :(
