The fact that the environment and creepy atmosphere in the trailer are very reminiscent of the first Alien film and Alien: Isolation makes me happy! They NAILED the aesthetic look of this film!👏👏👏

Whilst we will probably never get an Isolation 2... this movie feels to keep the spirit of it alive in the way of serving fans something as close as possible to the first movie when most media in the series is focused on the second movie. Isolation still does this so well, so only time will tell if Romulus can be better than Isolation. :) Exciting time to be a fan!

@@Kiwi-Ahh-Nah To be precise, it was James Cameron who lost the plot (or never even had it). He drove the Alien-universe into this direction, where it lost it's logical basis. And Fincher and Jeunet accomplished the mess. And of course the comics and games, and the "Aliens vs. Predators"-Trash. I'm very curious about if Fede Alvarez will really bring this franchise back to it's roots. Would be too nice to be true. "Alien: Isolation" was a promising step into a good direction.

The CGI you see that feels off was likely created without real filmed assets or good reference. I'm sure this movie uses a mix of both practical and CGI so the CGI shots can be perfectly matched with those that are filmed. It's pretty much the best way to go about visual effects and any sensible director would choose that approach. The number of modern movies that truly have no CGI is absolutely minuscule, and I doubt this blockbuster from 20th Century Fox is gonna be the rare exception.

PLEASE be worthy of the Alien franchise! Prometheus and Covenant couldn't pull it off. They went another direction with the Engineers, fine, but they were very divisive films. I'm not sure how scary this will actually be as fear of the unknown is a strong fear, and we all know the xenomorph life cycle like the back of our hand now. I hope Fede can inject something wholly new. Like, a phase of xenomorph growth not seen. Aliens introduced the Queen and psychic communication with her spawn; Romulus needs something like that. Something new to expand on the lore.

The _Alien_ movies aren't actually "pure horror" films.
@R0B1NG5
@R0B1NG5 Ай бұрын
The problem with trying to make it pure horror again is a lot of the horror comes from the unknown. Alien became a popular franchise and the face hugger/chestburster can't surprise you twice. It became too iconic. "Don't show the monster too much" is a rule of thumb in monster movies that usually works well if you nail the atmosphere. But by now we have so many behind the scenes and documentaries of all the movies, showing everything fully lit, we have toys and 22 inch statues, we have spin off games with fully detailed 3D models of the creature. We know it inside out. The mystery is gone. Its about as scary as a company logo. Gieger worked on the original design being so unsettling that there were concerns it was too offputting and would hurt profitability and there was pressure on them to change it to something more "marketable". Nowadays the execs probably resist changing it too much incase it hurts "brand recognition". So while I think this movie could be good, and I certainly hope its better than 3 and resurrection, it will just feel anemic compared to the original in terms of horror. Nothing can ever be that watershed moment again, unless you start a new IP. Were in franchise land now. The best we can hope for is an entertaining rollercoster. I think thats why it was so smart to pivot to action for the sequel to Alien. You can't do pure horror again as another director and be confident you can reach the same heights when it is in danger of looking like a rehash, and people expect "bigger and better" in a movie sequel in general. So Stranded marines plus some civilians taking on a hive is so smart for the premise. It avoids direct comparisons of the effectiveness of the horror by adding more of an action element. And so it can be judged as one of the all time classic action movies, alongside Alien being a seminal scifi horror work.

While the "Alien" franchise can still produce entertaining and even exceptional films, they will likely never replicate the raw horror of the original. The shift to action in "Aliens" was a smart move that allowed the series to evolve and succeed in a different genre. Future entries can hope to be thrilling and engaging, but the pure horror and mystery of the first film are bound to remain unparalleled.

ALIEN worked because the characters were BELIEVABLE….. middle aged, weary, experienced in the industry and the world….this is teens in space…. Sorry, nope! You can dress things up with petty images but your cast make or break…. These are kids, and you’re trying to convince everyone that they fly spacecraft and exist in a world as advanced as that…. Take a look at all the other background characters… they’re kids too. This has been made to appease a particular demographic, not to actually form a cohesive piece of a story. Production design looks interesting but the cast don’t sell it.

Don't be fooled. Almost everything is CG. Just because they say they made the aliens, doesn't mean they used it for every scene or at all. The CG and visual effects are very good because a big team of artists made this on their computer. Some sets are made in real life but most of the film is CG with the actors and aliens cut in. So please appreciate the amazing work of the visual effects artists instead of thinking its all practical

No green screen? Ohhh THANK YOU Director! you can absolutely tell the difference between special effects, versus cgi. Cgi is often too clean, too separate from the real parts of the set.. it breaks that emersion. Special effects however (even in older films that are outdated) the monsters, the sets, feel real, solid... and as he said.. 'gritty'. Absolute mad MAD respect for that. We already planned to see this film with so much excitement.. but now its icing on an already delicious cake lol.

One of the vibes I get from this is the same thing I loved about Top Gun Maverick: the feeling that they shot an actual film as much as possible on camera, and that a lot of thought went into doing as many things as practically as possible during principal photography rather than post-production. It sounds like an obvious thing to say that "it looks like a film" but most movies today avoid doing anything conventionally and instead fill all the gaps with increasingly lifeless computer generated effects that don't have any weight or presence to them. The fact that it has the look of an actual FILM is refreshing.
@Max-bu5ky
@Max-bu5ky Ай бұрын
This film and Top gun Maverick is covered in “cgi” example top gun maverick had stand in jets to essentially cover it up with a cg fighter jet that was built by a modelling artist. And if you don’t believe me look at the numerous awards the film won for best vfx. This film is also full of effects that was made by ILM industrial light and magic and more vfx teams. Do not buy into the bullshit the marketing team make. Good “cgi” is essentially invisible and good integration.

@@_GuyInTheChair No actually it's Howard The Duck math. I don't think it's not gonna be entertaining I just don't think it will have any memorable characters like the earlier Alien films but we'll see. It helps to have known actors in your movie and I haven't seen any of these people in anything before. The snippets of acting/dialogue I've seen seem like a British youth drug/crime movie.

Only problem is the majority of the cast is a bunch of Kids. Which doesn't make sense. Why would they be out in space working for anything 🤨 And who in their right mind things a group of teens and kids would be the best characters to follow in such a story? Aliens has never been about following teenagers. It's always been about ADULTS facing the threat, trying to use it to get rich etc. Adult themes. Not children. And yes don't mention Newt, Newt is ONE character among a cast of 10+ adults. This movie looks like 10 KIDS and NO adults 🤦🏻‍♂ Also Alien isn't "Pure horror", it's Sci fi Horror. It has very strong and interesting ideas about technology, business, future society etc. It's not JUST "horror" and never has been. It's about trust and paranoia between people too. Which this movie doesn't even look like it's doing anything with. And someone explain why a KID can wield AN ASSAULT rifle. It just looks RIDICULOUS 😂 Like a baby Ripley copy, garbage.

Wow. All that and you never considered the obvious motive spoken by one of them in the actual video “do you wanna end up like our parents” and Rain and Andy “are we leaving. Sigh…denied”. They probably wanna run away from their colony life, so they steal a ship, or pay someone to get a ride off planet, stop by the abandoned space station to get supplies, then they find Xenomorph research stuff and then the movie happens. Also maybe they have pulse rifles on board the station?? Not that hard to imagine. The movie looks promising. Give it a chance
