So apparently the director Fede edited the trailer himself and now watching it back for the 100th time I can see it now. It feels like a trailer that was made by a hardcore fan of Alien especially when you consider how genius the last 30 or so seconds of the trailer is edited and conceptualized. One of the best trailers I’ve ever seen for a horror movie.🙏🏻

Im definitely interested. Personally none of the call backs seemed that bad (not like anyone’s forcing iconic lines like “get away from her you bitch”, “Game over man. Game over”, or anything like that). Like an alien getting close to someones face is a forced callback? What do you expect from a creature that literally eats people’s faces. For me though, while I love the bigger focus on practical effects and more of a horror tone, this movie will live or die based on how competent the humans are written. Loved covenant’s announcement trailer too, but I can’t can say the same about the finished movie.

"Like an alien getting close to someones (sic) face is a forced callback?" The only reason that shot was filmed in the first place is so the audience are reminded of Alien 3, so of course it is a forced callback. I can 100% guarantee that if no such scene existed in the third film the director wouldn't have used it as a crutch in his own film. Reliance upon nostalgia is always a bad sign.

Callbacks can be good if they’re executed in a way that affects the characters, especially in horror. Godzilla Minus One had several of those, from some of the music to him chomping into a train and his atomic breath. The difference was that that movie made me empathize for the characters and I was devastated for them. And that’s from a 70 year old franchise It’s entirely possible for Alien Romulus to be able to do that IF these characters aren’t doing stupid nonsense like in Alien Covenant and setting themselves up for slaughter. Plus this movie is giving me Alien Isolation vibes so I’m at least a little interested to see what they do.

That last shot of the Xenomorph face to face with the "Final Girl" I'm theorizing here...may be the Xenomorph covering her with resin and prepping her for a Facehugger. But shots like this are a staple for the Alien Universe. There are just certain things you have to keep...sometimes it's executed well, sometimes not. A lot of people hated the fact that Prometheus didn't look like the original Alien tech wise, but didnt understand that the Prometheus ship was an elite Science Vessel, so in this one they went back to a more stripped down, septic vs antiseptic look of the original, so that it wouldn't alienate fans...pun intended.

2:43-Since I scrolled through a few comments and noticed nobody mentioned it, I will. Audible commissioned in 2019 a sort of audio movie version of William Gibson’s _Alien 3._ It stars Michael Biehn and Lance Henriksen as their characters from _Aliens,_ and Newt makes an appearance, thanks to a young actor. As far as I’m concerned, it completes an _Alien_ trilogy, and completes it well, with themes and world-building timely to the 1980s-made universe. So as far as I’m concerned I’m done with _Alien_ - the first two movies, _Alien 3_ and _Prometheus_ (too bad about that sequel) are it for me, unless somebody comes up with something _really_ special.

What i like about furiosa is while it does do callbacks it does so with the movie its directly connected to rayher than aping on the original trilogy. And said callbacks generally meant something in the greater context of the movie

To be honest I do like the "Fight for survival" aspect of these movies. The horror ans suspense is just a plus to me. The most intriguing part about these movies to me is the lengths the characters will go through to survive. The harder they're pushed the more drastically their survival instincts are forced to respond. Thats what i like the most out of any Sci Fi /Horror flick seeing what they can come up with to get away

My only fear is Alien 90210. The cast is very young. I hope there's some mature grit to this.

None of the callbacks look like a problem or like some cheap nostalgia bait; they all just seem like things that portray consistency in showing that these movies take place in the same world/universe, and it just a maintenance of tonal consistency with the first two or three films. That, of course, doesn’t automatically mean the writing will be good, but hopefully that will be the case.

20th Century Studios has actually done a pretty good job revitalizing Fox's horror franchises. Prey was surprisingly good, and the new Hellraiser was my favorite of the entire franchise. And this trailer looks amazing to me! I have no reservations about seeing Romulus in theaters! Famous last words. 😉

I got no problem with callbacks, as long as the current story is well told and adds something worthwhile to the mythos of the franchise.

It would be such a flex for a legacy sequel to have zero callbacks. You can have returning characters if they're integral to the story, but aside from that, be 100% original. I'd be interested to see if audiences would enjoy that or not. Probably not.

Super surprised how excited people are to watch what looks like another thinly veiled remake, but I've never been a fan of this franchise (the original doesn't even do anything for me unfortunately) so I'm not tapped in with what the fans want.

Okay not to be mean but can we not act like that "callback shot" is the most original shot. There are tons of shots where the final girl and killer/monster have a starr down face to face. This doesn't scream nostalgia like Ghostbusters Frozen Empire, that movie was just....something else.

Theres only 3 things that determine whether an alien movie is great, 1, atmosphere, 2 Characters, 3 tension.

Atmosphere and tension could be spot on. The characters could spoil this one especially the dumb ass who can't say water, he sounds thick as a brick, total scene ruined once his mouth is opened.
