In this Sci-Fi tale, we delve into a final lecture on interspecies combat where the focus shifts to humans, an unpredictable and formidable species. The instructor emphasizes the unique human concepts of "distress signals" and "reinforcements," highlighting their tendency to summon overwhelming support when threatened. Through examples, including a Tigris class cruiser defending a merchant vessel and a human distress signal prompting immediate military response, the story illustrates the HFY theme. Humans defy conventional military logic, often engaging with relentless solidarity and unexpected reinforcements, making them a highly dangerous and unpredictable adversary in any combat scenario.

Sound like something I watched happen in GTA online LOL Guy picked a fight with another player, got his butt handed to him repeatedly and ran to his facility and used the orbital cannon to try and blow up the other player. Didn't work because his opponent saw where the idiot was headed and jumped into one of his properties. It was fun watching the whole thing.

Reminds me of mass effect. In there, the turians were a militaristic race that had defeated all challengers. But when they engaged humans in the first contact war, they managed to get some early victories, but they were unprepared for human tactics of severing their supply lines when they counter attacked. When both races geared up for total war, the governing body of the galaxy intervened as they realized that the humans had the resources and manpower that there would be no clear victor. Since a war would devastate both species and likely others pulled into it, they stopped it before it began. Then there was their shock at our ships. They had a treaty that declared races could only have a certain amount of dreadnoughts/battleships. With the humans, they thought we had a large amount of them and demanded we dismantle them, only to find out that they're actually carriers with light weaponry since we put more emphasis on fighter support than the big ships.

Indeed, if the response to a pet being murdered isnt the genocide of the nearby "Cartel sized" hitman organization, then was the response even considered Proportional?

I feel like they wouldn’t understand battlefield attrition considering they retreat instead of fighting a losing battle.
@generalilbis
@generalilbis Ай бұрын
I'd imagine they understand the concept of battlefield attrition...they just don't see the point in engaging in such practices. I mean...humans could be extremely prolific breeders in comparison to other species, so the idea of using "meat grinder" tactics could be highly illogical and automatically avoidable to a race that only breeds one specific time in their lifespan.

I like how a lot of these stories only manage to make humans look amazing by making the aliens look absolutely incompetent, to the degree you start wondering how these lukewarm IQ beings even got to outer space in the first place. How is reinforcements and backup special in any way? It's such a basic concept. How the hell do they patrol for pirates? They see a ship getting attacked and go "well they're engaged there, should wait our turn derp". Sorry, it frustrated me.

Because sometimes even backup is a losing battle and not normally worth it. To humans it’s a primal thing. They could also come from a lineage of prey species.

All these stories are getting pretty much the same. Humans are either the most amazing and OP thing discovered, are on the brink of extinction, looking stupid and inconsiderate of other cultures, or simply too shy about everything and timid. Though enjoyable and ofetn funny why are there practicly none where there is some even footing and respect between the two.

I read the transcript. What spelling errors? Alien names are created and spelled however the author chooses. There are grammar errors here and there, but I chalked those up to the author trying to create an alien pattern of speech. Maybe this comment was attached to the wrong story?

I dont like these kinds of stories. Not because of scifi which I love, but because they are all about stroking our egos. Lose the loser egos people, and then humanity would really be a force to be reckonned with !
