What you didn't see in the theatrical version is that at the beginning Burke helps Ripley find out about her daughter. Ripleys daughter was about 10 when she left and you find out Ripleys daughter got old and died while she was away. This lays the foundation of why Ripley bonds with Newt and why she needs to protect her. Unfortunately this context is missing from this version.

That, or the fact that, it's very likely that every adult that tried to keep her safe during the siege, was eventually taken by an alien, so she ultimately decided she could keep herself much safer, alone... I think that's why when Ripley asked her if she thought she'd be safer with the Marines, Newt replied that it wouldn't make any difference...

Great story on how Cameron pitched Aliens to the Execs at 20th Century Fox. He walked into a room full of suits, there was a chalkboard behind him and he wrote Alien$ on the board. He had no script, treatment or story. Just from that chalkboard writing, they gave him a pile of money to make it.

Sam Worthington commented that Cameron had a nail gun on the set of Avatar 2 and used it to place cell phones on the walls that rang during filming! I have seen this movie, no joke or exaggeration, EASILY over 1000 times in my lifetime (from age 7 to 35)... It is literally tied for 1st place (with 'The Thing [1982]') as my all time favorite movie, in ALL genres, and I am not kidding when i say that I can recite the entire dialogue from start to finish, as the movies plays... I never ONCE, questioned that the Xenomorph's secreted resin could possibly have something to do with the electromagnetic interference and is why it happened in both movies. So, when I say you kind of blew my mind for never thinking about this, I sincerely mean that! It might not even be the actual reason in these movies, but just the simple fact that you instantly thought of that on FIRST watch, kudos to you!

"Aliens": Third Office Ripley has been found and taken to Gateway station with a Xenomorph-size case of PTSD. What will The Weyland-Yutani Suits make of her blowing up the "Nostromo"? 5:07 You are watching the theatrical version that I saw in 1986. 9:05 Actor Jenette Goldstein is/was a bodybuilder, so pull ups were no sweat for her. Fluent in Spanish, she went to casting as a Latina gang member. (The source of the "illegal alien" joke?) 11:33 Ripley shows Apone and Hicks that she isn't a front office paper shuffler like Burke, but a working class dog like themselves. 12:39 Experienced soldier will catch 40 winks whenever possible, because war is a 24 hour thing. 17:26 In 1986, I noticed that Ripley was able to "get close, quickly," to Rebecca, unlike the female Colonial Marines. A reviewer of the time said: "Sisterhood!" In 1990, I bought the Special Edition Laserdisc(!) and confirmed that Ripley had been a parent. 20:50 Vasquez has spare fire control modules so the squad still has fire support. 26:57 And Corporal Hicks agrees. 28:04 Ferro and Spunkmeyer's last flight. 34:06 The Manual of Arms. 35:40 How's THAT for a wake up call? 42:39 They went out like Klingon warriors. 45:29 The right tool for the job with Duck tape. 47:52 The egg chamber. 49:15 Let's negotiate. 49:55 War be declared. 53:51 Queen takes Bishop. 55:35 Battle cry! 58:14 Payoff. Do ya think there's gonna be a sequel? Find the Assembly Cut of "Alien3" (1997).

You should have watched the director's cut of the movie. There is 18 minutes of footage added back in, with some really strong Ripley character moments, including one scene that was deleted that Sigourney Weaver was mad about because she based her entire relationship with Newt on that one scene. When you watch ALIEN 3, I highly recommend the assembly cut from 2003. It's actually closer to director David Fincher's original vision of the film it's roughly about 30 minutes longer than the theatrical cut, but well worth it.

Their are 3 actors in this movie that are also in Terminator 1 or 2. Hicks was Kyle Reese Vasquez was John Conner's foster mom and Hudson was "Punk leader" in the beginning of terminator 1. And go by the date of release for aliens, predator and terminator. If you go by the date of release between the movies predator and aliens you'll reach their encounter at the right time. Example, Meaning if aliens released a movie in 1990 and 1994 and predator released one in 1992. Watch aliens/predator/alien i hope that makes sense.

@souldrip20009 сағат бұрын
I respectfully disagree. I feel the Special Edition is a demonstrably worse film than the Theatrical Cut. So you two made the right choice watching that version. The Theatrical Cut is cinematic perfection, with no fluff. Whereas the Special Edition has extra scenes that take away from the suspense + the mystery. (But all art is subject, I suppose.)
@Smokie_6666 сағат бұрын
@@souldrip2000 Yes and no. The one thing the Special Edition adds is mentioning Ripley's daughter which adds to the main film in a couple ways. It adds impact to why Ripley is so visibly distraught when Van Leuwen says "60, 70 families" to her at the end of the inquest scene. He doesn't say people, he says families which echoes with Ripley and her own sense of family and loss. It also explains why she is so good with Newt and her interactions which is "rewarded" at the end when Newt calls her mommy.

This series is often cited for being awesome for different reasons between 1 and 2. The first one is kind of like a sci-fi horror/ slasher movie and the 2nd one is sci-fi action, AND its by 2 different directors which is pretty dope too imo. Just like terminator series, this series peaks in the first couple movies. 3 is ok not great and 4 is bad. Alien romulus came out recently and is the only worth while alien movie since Aliens. Not really a spoiler, but it takes place between Alien and Aliens. Personally, i think you should skip right to the first predator b/c its 80s-tastic action and you can watch aliens vs predator if you really want, but not necessary.

I just couldn't enjoy Promethieus because the myriad of bad decisions made by all the so called scientists took me out of the story. Who stretches out their hand to pet an wierd alien snake surrounded by unknown goo in an creepy ancient cave on an alien planet? Why would you take off your helmets to breathe in unknown pathogens in the alien air of said cave? Who explores an alien cave containing long dead alien creatures without any PPE? Why try to bring your infected and horribly mutated colleague back unto your ship? Where were these scientists trained? I don't expect scientists to be perfect but most of what they did made no sense at all. It turns out the hapless marines in the second movie were much smarter.

I was ecstatic when the movie was mentioned in an Avengers film and the basis for a rescue plan! They even did a camera shot that was reminiscent of it. Wish you had watched the Special Edition of Aliens. Got to see Newt’s family before the colony was destroyed. Do NOT bother with the remaining sequels. HUGE disappointments. Normally don’t bother with audio commentaries but I enjoyed the one with the director and cast.

So as far as direct Alien sequals go, 3 and 4 (Alien Resurecton) are pretty bad. People will defend them but a lot of fans disavow them as even being part of the Alien/Aliens story. The more modern prequels of Promethus and Covenent are also not great movies featuring some of the dumbest characters you will ever see die because they are dumb. BUT at long last this year we got Alien: Romulus the first good Alien movie since Aliens. It takes place between Alien/Aliens and is 100% worth watching. If you have seen Alien and Aliens, you are caught up enough to watch Romulus.
