When Nick Fury said "Avenger Initiative" a lot of the crowd in the theater went wild. Prior to this movie, most practically all superhero movies had a single hero fighting alone. @NativeNewMexicanАй бұрын
@@wyrmshadow4374 practically none of Iron Man's script was improvisation. A script is more than dialogue, which definitely had a lot of improvisation. RDJ didn't improvise flying the suit over the cars w/o any damage and then falling through the ceiling at the end. Nobody improvised stark riding in the convoy, being captured, building the suit, befriending the scientist prisoner guy, feeling guilt for his part in instigating war, and so on. All of that stuff was in the script, not improv. Give the script writers the credit they deserve and ALSO give the amazing actors that did improv SOME LINES the comparably smaller amount of credit they deserve.

Something people tend to forget is that Iron Man was not a popular comic book character. Marvel Comics had sold the rights to their _popular_ characters i.e. Spiderman, The Fantastic Four, The X-men and The Hulk to actual movie studios. So, when Marvel was looking to get into the movie business they had to use their B-List superheroes. And nobody expected this movie to be the success that it became. Robert Downey, Jr? He was basically a failed actor due to substance abuse. Nobody expected him to make a comeback or to give such a charismatic performance that it would launch the most profitable IP in history with sequels spanning a decade. This movie was truly lightning in a bottle on the order of _Star Wars._

Before this movie, Iron Man was a "C List" character for Marvel. They were in financial problems in the 1990's and had to sell the movie rights to their top tier characters to other movie studios. In the mid 1990's, Marvel knew that movies were their big ticket item and focused everything on developing the MCU. At the time, Making this movie was a huge all or nothing gamble for Marvel, as was hiring Robert Downy Jr. to play Tony Stark. Marvel had the MCU main plot mapped out in pre-production for phases 1, 2, & 3 by the time they sold Marvel to Disney Studios at the end of 2009.
@sparky6086Ай бұрын
I wouldn't say C list. At least B. After all, they did have a popular Iron Man TV cartoon in the 1960's. I don't think a C lister would have had an animated cartoon. Iron Man was popular through the 1970's. Tony Stark was actually portrayed as an alcoholic for awhile in the comics. He even slept off alcoholic benders & claimed he was getting his batteries which kept his heart going, recharged. The movie was fairly faithful to the comic book which began in 1962, but Vietnam was the War setting, not the Middle East. In 1962, the US had some "advisors" in Vietnam, but it wasn't really a household word in the US yet, so it's quite the coincidence that Stan Lee chose it as the setting a few years before it was a big deal. I think of Iron Man as A list, but concede, that many probably think of him as B list.

The first Iron Man movie has one of the best movie endings ever after Tony Stark admits he is Iron Man to the press and then it immediately plays the song Iron Man by Black Sabbath as the credits start then it's followed by the Nick Fury reveal and mention of the Avengers , when I watched this in 2008 it was so obvious that this was going to be massive and so many people were excited to see where it would go but I didn't expect it to be the biggest most epic film franchise ever which it became.

Fun fact: the armor he built at the cave is based on the original Iron Man suit when it started at the comics back in the 60’s

People have commented that RDJ is the perfect Tony Stark because of his past issues. RDJ had drug and alcohol problems while Tony had been battling alcoholism for years.

Tony Stark, Jonny Storm, Orono Munroe, Ben Grimm, etc. It started off as an east way to talk about a project but they didn't anticipate keeping track of hundreds of characters.

11:20 -- RE: Dawn chuckles progress towards the belly; So yeah, when it comes to kickass Ironman origin stories this one does not fail to deliver. It even gets bonus points for all the AK gunfire being sprayed uselessly at Tony as he tanks it through the cave system.
