@@SomethingCinema It's wrong, though. The scene was unrehearsed & ad-libbed, but they all knew what was going to happen. They'd all read the script and seen the alien puppet, and it took half a day to rig everything for the shot. But again, it was unrehearsed, and it was the very first scene they shot. Veronica Cartwright didn't know she was going to get hit in the face when the blood started spraying (That's real blood, by the way- there was a slaughterhouse close to the studio & they got all their blood from there, as well as a bunch of other bits and pieces which they used to make things like the underside of the facehugger & the inside of the alien egg)

Just to clarify about the shuttle, the reason they couldn't fit everyone in there wasn't because there wasn't enough room/seats. The problem is that the life support system can't handle that many people for a long duration. And they're probably a long, LONG way from anyone being able to come help them. It's somewhat vague, but Ripley says, "The shuttle won't take 4" and "We'll need all the coolant you can carry for the life support system." So for the crew, killing the alien was the better option initially because floating helplessly in a shuttle that could give out at any time was a bigger risk. They also didn't have a full appreciation for what they were dealing with. However, once the crew was down to 3, and Ash told them that they wouldn't be able to kill the alien, that's when they said screw it and decided to abandon the ship.

Fun facts. The face hugger in the egg was actually just a guys hands together in rubber gloves. The face hugger disections screen was a horseshoe crab. The cast wasn't told how the chest burster would operate so the reaction you saw was genuine surprise. Finally the body scene where they launch the body out was done with a miniature launched from a sling shot. O and the guy in the alien suit was literally found in a bar and had little acting experience. And last thing in the sequel they had to change the size of the head of the alien cause they were to worried they'd have to stop after every take to fix the broken dome.

Saw this in theatres in '79 and all the screaming and jumping up and running out the movie was hilarious! The fact that it stil gets people is a testament to how well it was made. This movie broke 2 big movie tropes 1-the Black character was not the first to dies and 2-the woman is not a helpless, stupid idiot. Prior to this...women in movies were prey and often catatonic in the face of danger (watch original Night of the Living Dead). Also, Drew is right - American movies condition audiences using sound to recognize fear. Watch Midsommor and see what happens when you remove the tropes from the film. No scary music - just friendly smiling Swedes in the bright sunshine - the death totals are the same. My recommendation: Aliens, The Exorcist, Train to Busan, The Host (Korean), Hereditary, and Terminator 1 and 2.

Man, I love this film. First saw it when I was eight, loved it ever since. But as for why they're out there - they're basically truckers, their actual ship's not big. They're towing a massive refinery that orbits mining planets. Their gear's cheap as shit, they work for Space Amazon's heavy freight division and it turns out Space Bezos wants him some monsters he can train and sell to the army. That's why they had no equipment for exploration, it's why the mechanics were griping about getting pushed into investigating - it was way above their pay grade and they weren't even halfway prepared to go looking at whatever made their computer go 'Ooh, Shiny Thing'.

First of all the crew were basically space truckers. The ship they piloted was a tug attached to some kind of space refinery. Thus the reason they deferred to Ash the science officer on matters dealing with the alien. Ash was placed on the ship TO let the organism in. The company had an idea that a dangerous organism was on the planet. It wanted it for it's weapons division. You should watch Aliens after this. It's more like an action/horror film. When VCR's became more affordable in the 80's this was the very first VHS tape I brought and later when DVD players came out this was again the first DVR I brought. I really loved this film and the sequels even Alien 3 in its own weird way. Fun Fact: The guy who played the alien in the movie was a Nigerian actor and visual artist named Bolaji Badejo who stood 6ft 10in and got the roll because of his long legs. This was his only movie role. He died young at the age of 39. And my favorite movie horror trope is when the bad guy or monster gets them (the protagonist) when they either are having sex or just finished. By the way they have literally been out in space for years processing the crude oil they were carrying back to Earth. See the second movie the extended version and you will see what I mean.

That's why they started collecting all the "coolant" cylinders. Those would contain oxygen, so that the three of them could survive (again, not enough chambers for the three of them). I'm looking forward to watching part 2 with you guys.

I love how when Ash says"Don't touch it" 99% of people say kill the baby alien. ACID FOR BLOOD, HELLO! If you squished it like most people say you would die from lack of O2 or worse be blown into space through an opening the size of a baseball.

When John Hurt has the chestburster come out of his chest, none of the other actors knew what was going to happen. The director didn't tell them because he wanted to see their real reactions and emotions to it.

Seven suckers, a cat that didn't want to be there and a demonic kangaroo. I remember seeing this on HBO in 1980 as a young teen. I was scared of the dark for weeks. Groundbreaking sci-fi movie with a great score by the legendary Jerry Goldsmith. Ridley Scott's 2nd movie, great practical effects and Sigorney Weaver hits a grand slam in her debut performance. Now you gotta do Aliens.😄👍💥

Good, a little comedy before diving into a SF/Horror movie classic of the 1970's. 6:26 Movie finally starts. In 1979, what would you make of the ad campaign/trailer that gave you no clue as to what "Alien" was about? These "Sofa Warriors" don't want to go "out to the Black." It is interesting that "Alien" has lost none of it's ability to shock and scare naive viewers, in this DFX age.;) 20:00 How's that for a "Syntax Error" message? 22:40 When Ripley slammed Ash into the wall and he didn't react, that was my "WTF!? He's not HUMAN?" moment. Warrant Officer Ripley, the very definition of a Strong Female Character. Shall we play a game? "Subnautica" awaits...

I remembering hearing someone got a heart attack during the chest bursting scene when it was out in theaters back in the day. Snap, This movie is so suspenseful and Erie, and the alien is crazy and had a haunting design to. One thing that added to the mystery was that giant almost 30 foot tall biomechanoid elephantine alien fused to the chair In the alien ship. How long had it been since it was alive? Were is the alien that bursted out of its chest? Since the xenomorph retains part of the dna of the host, this alien would be bigger than the Dead space jockey alien, and it’s horrifying to think it’s still alive hidden on the derelict alien ship.

Neat reaction, just to say your gonna get alot of request for the sequel AlienS which is more of an Action movie but still thrilling, Alien3 does an subversion of expectation pulling some dark twists and turns resulting in a very divisive movie, many despise others love it, would make for an interesting reaction from you if you choose to, its also gets weird with Alien4 Resurrection, then the philosophical Prequels Prometheus and Alien Covenant.

Secondary (pharyngeal) jaws actually exist in earth creatures, specifically Moray Eels. That's probably what the Alien design of the second jaw/teeth came from. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pharyngeal_jaw

Great reaction, i hope ya'll do the film, From Dusk till Dawn 1996 in the future (if ya'll haven't seen it or the series that is). If you haven't, DON'T look up anything about it. All you need to know is that it's a Robert Rodriguez film written by Quentin Tarantino. It stars George Clooney and Quentin Tarantino as two criminal brothers on the run, trying to get to Mexico to deliver money from a heist. Along the way, they take a family hostage (played by Harvey Keitel, Julliette Lewis, and Ernest Liu), and forced the family to smuggle them into Mexico. That's all I'll say about the film, even if you've seen the series already. Still do a reaction of the movie for laughs. But if you know absolutely nothing about the film, the reaction will be even better.
