Until you see the locations, or the 3x3 weapon upgrades that really are just repeated(though I was ok with those) and the woefully enemy pathing. Fucking love the music in the game, each level has its own theme. And the battle music that takes over when the aliens start to swarm works well for me. The shimes you hear when you get a headshot also makes it feel you're one of the orchestra making the music :D

Love your reviews, respect your writing talent, and always appreciate your gaming breakdowns. Been playing Fireteam since launch on PS4 Pro, and am absolutely loving it. Granted, I've had an itch for a "good" Aliens game for decades - so there's a big bias there. But this game feels like a little love-letter to the whole franchise (not just "Aliens") and I've been having a blast with the progression and unlocks. I like horde-shooters, and this is very much the kind of Aliens-game I wanted Colonial Marines to be. I get why you disliked the game, but for me - this is a win. Keep up the good work!

Although it isn’t anything mind blowing in terms of gameplay, I’m still really interested in this game just because I’m a huge fan of the Alien Franchise and overall it feels like a love letter to Aliens, with nods to other things like Alien Isolation and even the newer prequel movies. The fact that it isn’t complete garbage and that it’s a cheaper $40 price tag is enough to incite me to purchase

I never got into stuff like Left 4 Dead since zombies are the quickest way to make sure I have no interest in a thing, so I never got burned out on this genre to begin with. I'm usually right there with ACG with his reviews, but this one missed the mark for me. To each their own, but I'm loving the game. It's surprising to me how different this review is from most others I've seen, ACG is the first I've seen pretty much universally pan the game. Though, like I said, to each their own. If you read or listen to the prequel book to this game called Aliens infiltrator you'll get into the story more. I highly suggest it. The game is basic but a damn fun time. For die hards of the Alien franchise this is a must buy...I'm gonna be that guy that posts this on every review.

That’s pretty much how I feel about it. Although WayFoward/Gearbox pulled-off an interesting metroidvania-style Aliens game back in 2011 for the Nintendo DS, called Aliens: Infestation. Even had permadeath and face-hugger infections. I’m opting-in for Nightdive Studios to get the rights for a remaster of the PC AVP with all of its multiplayer bits intact. They’ve done stellar work with Quake, Turok 1 & 2, Doom 64.

Just so every one knows, Skill Up made a very positive review of this game and went into a lot of detail on why he thought the game was great. Before sleeping on this game because of one bad review I would highly reccomend getting a different perspective and then coming to your own conclusions.

I'm subbed to multiple reviewers but usually, you and Skill Up are right next to each other on my sub feed whenever a game's embargo is up and I'm honestly shocked at how much of a contrast there was between you two this time. I was considering buying this to try out but I honestly thought that it was going to be priced for less than it currently is. If I'm in the mood, I might buy this when it's half off in a year or two when there's been a few patches but until then I'm glad I generally watch reviews first.

If you remember Alien/Aliens the scary part was how extremely narrow the corridors were. If you have to funnel a team down a single file passageway where only the lead and rear person can effectively fire at enemies it would go a long way to enhance the terror of the fight. Everything in this game seems wide enough everyone can walk shoulder to shoulder thru.

I don't agree with his overall assessment as I've been playing a physical retail copy single player for a few days now (some places sold it early for whatever reason) but do definitely agree that it's not bringing anything new to the table. It's a focused offering that is enjoyable but gets a big boost from the Aliens factor. It's exceeding my personal expectations and I think the review is a bit harsh but can understand why others may only be lukewarm towards the game.

Horde shooters in general are boring and shitty, if they aren't released with tons of maps/upgrades/weapons etc., because the community dies out otherwise by the time they add new content to keep the game fresh

@@0verWay It's because the mechanics are usually incredibly basic. The progression for difficulty is almost always the same as well. This feels like the another exploitation of a well loved IP to flog a pretty cheap game. And it's a real shame after the brilliant Alien Isolation that Sega hasn't been able to make another good Alien game in SEVEN years. There's so much scope for one as well but personally it has to be a single player campaign. If they want to add a MP element okay (though I'd rather they focused their entire budget on making the SP experience the best it can be).

@@MrAlam471 personally I enjoy having reviewers that I disagree with :) Both Skillup and ACG covers gamed in a way where it feels very good whether you agree or disagree. I know I get their viewpoints and their arguments delivered in a way where I understand where they are coming from and a bit about their preferances. And it suits me fine as someone who not only likes many of the same games, but just enjoy games in general. Which for instance is why ACG's Walking the Walks are so phenomenal for me. I think his reviews are absolutely amazing too. But I also enjoy SkillUps reviews :) but they have very different methods I think. In terms of this game I just find it interesting that they have so different experiences. But for mw the game is a "Buy on deep sale IF your friends wants to play it with you".

I pre ordered it, you can tell the devs are respecting the IP, I trust them sorting out most of the balance issues and sound issues and correct me if I'm wrong but the studio isn't large PLUS its only £35 so realistically I am not expecting the best game ever, just a fun L4D style game :D

I think what you’re missing is that it was called Alien: Isolation. Like the movie, Alien, you’re helpless and it’s a horror game. This game is Aliens: Fireteam Elite. Like the movie, Aliens, there’s more action and more fighting and as a result less scares. Say what you will about whether aliens was a good sequel to alien, but it’s not just the games that decided to move away from survival horror

What i honestly dont understand is why they even went the third person route and went with a singleplayers shooter like the original aliens vs predator or hell they could have remade Alien Trilogy if they had the IP and they had the manpower why not just check the list of previous titels go trough them and check what works and what dont work and just amp the gameplay to modern specs and just fucking try to do it justice instead of creating low effort drivel designed to be ported to mobiles or consoles is it that freaking hard to actually give a damn about your job and do something you can actually be proud of ? im not saying that its easy creating a game like Aliens vs predator and make it good but its definetly more profitable to actually create something like that then to shovel some shit game like this out and get blasted by both critics and user alike just a bloody shame that they wasted so much talent on this mess then to maybe try and grab some talent from proper game developers that know what they are doing and create a masterpiece with "effort" and "love" rather then "profit first and consumer "later" not hating on the developers or you for reviwing it but goddamn you can clearly see they just wanted a quick cash grab and nothing else

I don’t think it has to. Resident evil manages just fine, I think the issue is that the way the alien is portrayed in games is just not that scary.

@@adamwest8711 probably because this is a aliens game not a alien one which makes it difficult for the devs to make the xenomorphs scary when your gunning them down with ease. But I mean a game like left 4 dead can make the zombies genuinely intimidating so I don't know why they couldn't with the xenos

Well, I remember playing the original AvP1 and 2 on PC, and the campaign with the marine in first person gave an amazing feeling, one of a handful of games that has ever made it scary for me. Both the first person view plus the way the aliens moved (fast and what seemed like erratic, making you more prone to miss) contributed to that.

@@Methos_101 I tried playing that but I had some kind of compatibility issue and it cut the top half of the screen off after reaching that first elevator and I got fed up with it and stopped trying. In fairness, there was a fairly decent avp rts game, (extinction?), that was surprisingly decent on the original Xbox but I never really think of it as being an aliens game for some reason. A bit like how I don’t really think of that halo wars rts, (also surprisingly good), as being a halo game.

I got it massive alien fan. Much prefer the style of isolation suspense atmospheric etc. At first I found it to be crappy however after more playing it was fun so I am enjoying it now. Only done first 3 missions so will play more.

For some reason I really really like the Alien/Predator world, the creatures and things, and the only movies I liked were the first two Alien movies and I even enjoyed AvP. This just isn't my genre and a windmill weapon swap to a purple weapon had me laughing. I do like the terrain textures on some of the areas there. Thanks for the great review, as always

I want this, but I'm still on edge. Some of the points were sounding good and them BAM! You hit me with something I didn't want to hear haha. I want that replay value... I'm thinking they could save it with the season updates and how they deploy patches, maybe the dev team will listen to customers if we have "recommendations". Aliens is my all time favorite movie, EVER!! After Colonial Marines, I was concerned with any new game in the universe but after playing through a few levels, yeah this is no Colonial Marines. Absolutely loving the game. It's just about what I wanted for an aliens game that mimic the amazing action of the movie and this game nails the look sound, atmosphere, feel of the movie. Is it perfect, no, but close enough as many of us have been waiting decades for an Aliens game like the movie.

@@sevenforcex Yeah it sucks, there are very few you can both enjoy in the same place. Some couch co-op stuff like NO Way out, Unravel 2, The Ascent. Halo mcc and COD do have options but for the most part they have small aspect ratio's or or limited to certain modes. I hear Halo is bringing back split screen, hopefully it is optimized carefully like the first 2.

Ofc everyone likes different types of games, and will have different opinions, and yes much if what you say is valid. However i found this game to be a ton of fun especially with friends. It's not the biggest game, it's not the best graphically (although it's perfectly adequate) and it's certainly not ground breaking. But i personally feel if you love the franchise, and your expectations are not unreasonably high, you'll definitely get some enjoyment out of this game. I certainly did. 😊👍

Feel like this is as much as I expected. These tone deaf developers trying to make Aliens into what it isn't, pure action shlock. Aliens was always about the terror an tension even with all the macho, shit talking marines. They got their asses kicked and the horror of survival kicked in. This game looks cheap and they definitely missed the Aliens feel.

Since you didnt mention the horde mode at all, im guessing that you didnt play with the day one patch which adds lots of fixes and improvements in addition to the mode itself. Also I have to say that your impressions about the game are very different from some other reviews which is completely fine. For me the game looks like a solid 7 or 8/10 game. I pre ordered the game. I actually get fed up with the negativity for games. So I basically listened to your rant for a few minutes. Then I restarted the video and turned the volume off. With that said. The game looks pretty fun and I can’t wait to play it tonight.
