Just seems like a inferior version of "V" to me. I say inferior because in V you actually saw the arrival of the aliens and then in the beginning everyone thinks they are friendly and only after a while does it become clear that they are evil invaders and are slowly and sneakily enslaving humanity. This is like V but with all that stuff cut out.

I think the recap is missing season 3. This is not all. Turns out there was an alien conflict that "migrated" to earth (AI driven machines vs. really powerful aliens, perhaps the creators of the AI driven machines -> the one you're seeing in this recap is the AI driven machines race). I really liked the story of the show, though it sometimes felt like a sitcom and am upset it didn't bring a closure (season 3 included).

I mean despite all the high tech gadgets aliens have in shows and movies, humans actually have some pretty destructive weapons of their own to fend off aliens, i.e. nukes. There's zero scientific basis for magic shields/etc. that can protect you from a nuclear explosion.

In some ways it is easier, but because people get used to spotting CGI, it has to get better and better so the real costs savings don't really happen unless you are comparing to large scale practical effects such as building blowing up, or multiple aircraft.
