I do wish pushing a box out of itself made an infinite line of the same box like you'd intuit would happen from looking at it, rather than arbitrarily stepping in and saying nah actually it just take you to bad room where you can sit and think about what you've done The mechanics of having an infinite identical line of yourself and other boxes in a void would be really interesting mechanically I remember seeing that in the demo & hoping it was just a case of something that was gonna be saved for the full game

@@acblook I think it's more like the infinity-box is a self-contained representation of infinitely recursed boxes, and the reason you exit the infinity box the way you do is that you're pushing the level *outside* of infinitely many boxes, so that you're paradoxically entering the layer *after* infinity

p.s. 1: put a box between the level and the outside of the level 2: the game has a feature where you can click into a box to zoom in. when you try to move, however, it pops you back out. if you do this with a recursion box, however, then you can move freely while zooming in or out infinitely.

It's a text based representation that could for example be used for debug outputs in the command line, but there is no way the game uses sth like this internally
@MythicTF22 жыл бұрын
@@doomse150 It certainly can be. Depending on how the level is stored, it very well could be EXACTLY how its stored internally. The simplest way to store a level in a 2D game like this is to use an array. Like this Level1 = { "$$$$$$$", "$ # $ $", "$ $ ", "$b 2 $", "$$$$$ $", } Then you go through your array and for every char in your string, you draw it to your screen with your specific x, y position with its designated graphic. I'm sure it's not stored like that but its fun that it can be!
@doomse1502 жыл бұрын
@@MythicTF2 You could use that text based representation for storing levels in a file on disk (even though I would go for a more standardized format like nested json or xml, so that I don't have to write and debug a custom parser), but use certainly wouldn't (or at least shouldn't) use it for storing the game in memory while running the game (because that would e.g. require rewriting the string for every move). Object oriented programming is a thing for a good reason.
@777theultra92 жыл бұрын
@@doomse150That was an overly simplified comparison on my part. Of course this game would work best with object-oriented programming, there has to be an internal level editor somewhere! It is just that seeing this level relates to me on a spiritual level somehow.

I finished the video and moved on already but had to come back because I just thought of something I think the reason you can’t push stuff into levels when you’re in space/void, is because you wouldn’t have anything to push that box or level against. There’s a visual square but that’s just to keep things neat. Just imagine if the boundary didn’t exist, you would just push the boxes for ever and not ouch them into each other
