They have a book version that's a little bit harder because you don't have the QOL indicators for what the words do. All I can say is that this game gets a bit wild later. That said, I am a bigger fan of ABDEC (by the same creator). I'm sure Tyler already has it on his list, but for those of you who have not heard about it, try it out. Its free to download the PDF of the first 15 puzzles!

I think this game is better in its original non-video form (it was originally designed as a paper booklet) where you don't get any premature confirmation of how mechanics work. You're not supposed to instantly understand what the words like TA or BE do via mechanical confirmation, it's meant to be like The Witness where you might make wrong assumptions and that creates the puzzle when you're confronted with a puzzle that those assumptions can't solve, go back and erase and redo etc.
@Sopsy_Hallow23 сағат бұрын
i have not experianced the original form but i cant fathom how it would work if it doesnt tell you the rules of the game. at that point its a bunch of boxes with letters in them, no?

@lopesdoriaКүн бұрын
Well, too bad for you. This definitely looks like the type of game he won't want to play on video ever again. It's probably because it isn't too visually interesting so it won't hold the viewer's attention despite how good the puzzles themselves are. Even with just this video he skipped most non-mandatory puzzles just to get the video over with faster. Then again, I could be entirely wrong. So I'm crossing my fingers that what you want does come true. :-)
@upsidewalks16 сағат бұрын
@@lopesdoriaWell, he discontinued doing video for Opus Magnum whose visuals are somewhat more 'watchable' than for this game. So I bet you're right. On another hand, he made a huge series out of Understand which is the same 2D grid where you connect tiles so I can't be absolutely sure.
@lopesdoria15 сағат бұрын
@@upsidewalks Yes, I think it's not a matter of the graphics being good or bad. It's more about newcoming viewers being able to understand what is going on at a glance. (It's for the same reason that he reexplains the machanics of the games at the beginning of every episode) I both LOK and Opus Magnum, the puzzles are intimidating and confusing if you are not used to the game's visual language. I think in Understand's case, the rules changed in every chapter, meaning that it's intentional for everyone to be lost at the start of each section, both the viewers and Tyler himself are supposed to be figuring out the mechanics as the episode goes.
@upsidewalks15 сағат бұрын
@lopesdoria Good points! I agree with you
@stickyickyrickypdx13 сағат бұрын
Surely the digital version is a bit easier as you can brute force a few more tries over re-applying some water to your wet erase marker 😅 That trial and error will lead to some video editing magic for sure, but Tyler is entertaining as he talks out other puzzles. I don't see how this wouldn't be engaging enough to upload a few more. I honestly skipped a few of the challenging levels before coming back. What felt like cheating later was proved the correct implementation of a ruleset in a later puzzle.

It's kinda unfortunate that the game has to use the english keyboard to type solutions eventually. Sure, it opens up some interesting puzzle options, but it does pull away from the "learning an alien language" feeling that you have to use this specific human alphabet. I couldn't, for instance, just drop this game to some foreign child and have them learn to complete all the puzzles without prior knowledge of keyboard configurations.
@raindrinker_dev23 сағат бұрын
I'm one of the devs! Very interesting comment, hehe. The game does read your actual text input, not what key you pressed. The game is doing surprisingly well in Japan, and I'm being very careful that keyboard configurations and layout don't spoil the experience! Obviously, in the paper version you could have replaced L, O, and K with alien glyphs, as you're drawing the BE'd tiles in with a pencil, but it's really useful mentally that the words are pronounceable, and for stuff like mobile (and I'm gonna add it as a settings option in PC too, in case someone outright doesn't have a latin alphabet keyboard) it pops up a small in-game keyboard.
