Barry Chapman 1 mouse, 1 keyboard takes up two, a USB headphone could take up another. So you are left with 1 to 2 USB ports left. There is a lot more use for USB ports like the Firefly mouse pad, for charging your phone, external hard drives, USBs (Obviously) and much more. For that expensive of a laptop, I think they should have had more USB ports.

It's not overpriced at all. For portability and having power at the same time it is worth it for people that game and move around a lot. For you it probably is since you like cheaper gaming laptops or PCs but this is still very worth it for those that have the money. Saying it is overpriced means you are saying it isn't worth it for the price but it IS worth it. Of course just my opinion.

i agree. 1080 with 1440p for 2400 is not bad plus awesome build quality. 1440p external monitors arent cheap, running anywhere from 400-800 dollars. i did a build on pc partpicker with similar specs and it runs around the same price granted i added h100i and gaming mobo. Still not bad seeing as how you can have the same specs and still be able to take it with you to your friends or school.

Finally! Thank you Dav, I've been waiting for the AW17 review since you made the 13&15' units 6 months ago. It was helpful that you addressed the TN panel over IPS. It was my biggest dilemma about getting this laptop, whether to choose QHD over UHD or TN over IPS or 120Hz w/ GSync vs 60Hz also 400nits vs 300nits though this isn't a big difference as they are mostly used indoors. It would have been awesome if you have gone over these features too for us specsheet nerds. Because choosing the screen is still holding me back, there's no good video showing the difference between the two panels. Great work with video Dav! I kinda wished it wouldn't end so quick..

Here are some facts about Alienware Laptops 1. Power brick, it is always heavy (has been for past 5 years!) 2. Weight - they're heavy ass laptops, don't expect to run around with it in your backpack, you'll get serious back pains. 3. Design - not for everyone but the lighting effects are super cool 4. Price - Alienware is spendy, but will last a very long time 5. Specs - they have solid specs which usually beat the competition in performance. Look at this way, do you want a Ferrari or a Toyota Camry?!

Richard it’s your choice of course and the 1060 will run most games in 1080p with max settings max settings at 60+ FPS but the 1070 will ensure better frame rates and the ability to play with good performance at 1440p

Great review. I think more attention could have been given to the weight and size of the power brick. The AW17 is awesome - but it's more of a luggable desktop than a laptop. The power brick is the biggest and heaviest available on the market. There is a very specific use case for this computer that exits between a tower and a 15" laptop. The important thing is knowing where you use case sits. If you get it wrong, you'll likely be frustrated with this computer.

Does something like this even exist? I looked up that Clevo/Segar BEAST someone linked, but it doesn't seem to have an optical drive (I might be wrong?) and it definitely doesn't have a mechanical keyboard. There's MSI's Titan 83 but that has terrible 60 Hz 1080p screen. I'm not trying to argue with you here, but I honestly don't think the machine you described exists.

Design is subjective. Some people actually like their laptops to perform AND look like a beast. You can turn off the RGB. Again, some people LOVE it. TN has nothing to do with the price. It's not a 60Hz TN panel. It's 120Hz. If you don't want TN, get the IPS 60Hz.

The most solid laptop I've ever owned. Both structurally and performance wise. The thing doesn't flex on the keyboard, screen hinge has just the right amount of tension and the aluminum casing is just solid. Oh and the cooling system is probably the coolest (haha) one I've seen, pure copper inline the earlier models aluminum heat pipes. Awesome review :)

The problem with the latest K1.0.9 BIOS is that in some games the PCH temperature can rise up to 96 Celsius degree, even when the CPU temp doesn't rise that high. Thermal paste is still really bad but the uneven cores temperature is no longer an issue, which is very nice.

Hi Dave! Nice graphics and animation in this video. I used to think that higher framerates and refresh rates are unnecessary, but after some research (and watching tech videos) I'm now convinced! Computers with the right specs cost a lot, though. :'(

You should review the Aorus X7 DT V6. I got it over the alienware 17 r4 and definitely dont regret it. Thermals are the same as what you reviewed, but the build is all metal, and super slim.

Dave you make really good reviews. Slick, professional and to the point. Personally I would love to know how Da Vinci Resolve runs on this and some of the other top end laptops. I need to replace my Macbook Pro(2015) and I'm not going to buy the current Macbook Pro as I think they are way overpriced for what you get.

A lot of people complain about AW laptops, I've had my M17x R4 for over 5 years, and really when this thing finally kicks the bucket I will find it quite hard not to get another AW. The only thing that puts me off about those new systems is the fact that graphics cards these days are soldered and not on mxm board, so if it dies on you, you can either buy their overpriced AW Amplifier or get a new laptop. Nevertheless they are fantastic machines worth the money. And if you look online and wait until the offer is on you can get about 15% off which is not bad.

I got this for 2200 with gtx 1080 and JESUS it is just like amazing. a copy of Destiny 2 is just a bonus.
