Kamsky also qualified for the Candidates at age 20, but interestingly he qualified for two different Candidates in the same year, 1994, because the chess world was split in two back then.

Brilliant game, I like how Alireza made moves that made things uncomfortable for his opponent. Rossolimo is one of the most complex and flexible openings, much like the Spanish.

Magnus probably understood this better than ANYONE: Alireza is in a TOTALLY different CLASS of TALENT among this next generation: He's a FREAK LIKE MAGNUS: There's No way to KNOW what certain talent levels are Capable of..... .. it's really up to Alireza: where he places in chess history

On move 12. White plays 12. Be3, but I wonder what is wrong with 12.Qe4 attacking the knight and the pawn on c6. It seems to me that it just wins a pawn doesn't it ? Can someone explain why this wasn't played ?
@drinkxyz

After Qe4 Kf7 Qxc6 white gets a pawn but the queen is a bit offsides. Black could go for Bd7 or Rb8 with excellent activity for a pawn. Best not to be too hasty with blockaded doubled isolated pawns. Better to develop and wait for better conditions to cash out.

the flexible way Firouzja played f2-f3 and Qe2-f2, and the vigor following f3-f4, is admirable. Great analysis by GM King again! Hope Firouzja has learned a few things, so there isn't any more of that "bullet past midnight after a loss" business that was seen at the Madrid candidates 😏

Firouzja hasn't really lived up to the hype, and Danny has been one of his main tire pumpers. Let's see if he can actually produce something in this candidates tourney
@PowerPlayChess
@PowerPlayChess 5 ай бұрын
Firouzja is currently #6 in the world at the age of 20. That's not hype! Just solid achievement. Anything can happen in the Candidates, it is always such an exciting event, but this time it really is unpredictable with the younger generation well represented.
@BMWE-hm7uz
@BMWE-hm7uz 2 ай бұрын
I agree the hype is greater than his achievements, at least at the time being. But that's comparing him to what we are used to. Eg Magnus Carlsen was regarded as the best in the world at age 18 19. And then was WC by 23 beating Anand. Firouzja and players like him are the future. But dare I say it, Firouzja is going to be another Levon Aronian. Spectacular games, but just, just not got what it takes to be champion. A constant in the top 10, maybe top 6. The patient grinding of games, finding a slight edge or trick or an idea on top of an idea in a drawn/ even endgame. If he matures and gets to that point then maybe, but I don't think that is in him. Isn't in his mindset. That said, given the opportunity, he could beat Ding Liren I think. Its whether he gets that opportunity.

Far from an "of course" kind of question if you've been paying any attention at all to the young talent coming out of India and Uzbekistan. Alireza hasn't lived up to the hype so far, especially not in classical time controls.

To be fair, probably all players think it's currently up for grabs. This is the first time in a while that they've had a real chance now that Magnus has pulled out... and I think a lot of players were capable of performing better than Ding/Nepo in the last WC match too. Curious to see what happens this time around!

How Firouzja got into the Candidate is leaving a bad taste in my mouth. During the Sinquefield cup it was mentioned that Dominguez could qualify for the candidates but he needed one more tournament to be in. This Tournament was never mentioned as possibility. FIDE also "clarified" their rules on getting into the Candidates and that always give me doubts. When was this tournament scheduled. His mini-matches are also questionable.
@PowerPlayChess
@PowerPlayChess 5 ай бұрын
So far, FIDE has declined to rate Firouzja's mini-matches (and anyway, he wasn't successful). The tournament in Rouen was just a regular Open that anyone can enter. Firouzja went for it and won his place in the Candidates by playing. That's how we want it - not by players resting on their laurels. Dominguez attempted to qualify by playing in the Sitges Open in Spain in December. A win there meant he would have won the FIDE circuit 2023 and thus qualified for the Candidates. He had some poor games and it was clear that he wasn't going to be successful and withdrew from the tournament. Fair play to him: he got out there and tried. I have no qualms about how Firouzja qualified for the Candidates.

Not a very legendary game by Gata. Sad that Alireza stooped to the low that he did, to leap frog Wesley. FIDE's fault of course for creating a situation where this type of thing could happen. And even though, I'd much prefer to have Firouzja in the Candidates to Wesley, it's not right the way it happened.

I agree, not Gata's best game, but Firouzja punished him brilliantly. f4 was a great concept - easy to understand once it is played but to my eyes not at all obvious. I wonder how many others would have played like this?

In over 10 years, that's probably the first time the F word has been said on this channel. GM King found the only appropriate time to use it. As Kamsky has been referring to himself as the "FFL" for years. I think he used to sell merch with the phrase. Oh well, don't worry. Your children will never encounter that word elsewhere. Not in today's society. No.
