First of all, you are by far my favorite commentator. I love your calmness and politeness ❤ To me, your last sentence was so beautiful, like a father to son, it was a wakeup call. I hope Alireza hears is, as I love him too. I am close to my 40s now, what I always think about is that I wish I had a very good mature person in my life to guide me in the right direction when needed. I hope he finds a good and mature guidance.

Amazing trust by Firouzja in his attacking chances. It is impossible for a human to calculate it all the way to the finish and see all the nuances he found. So even more impressive to go into it by instinct and to make life difficult for white - even if it might objectively be bad at some stages with perfect play by white. I love this clash of styles.

Very instructive attacking game withblack in this opening. Thanks Daniel for showing us from both sides. Wishing you joyful festive days from Slovakia.

Thanks for game Daniel. Minute 14:29 in the video. Caruana had a better defence than rook c1. He could play rook e1! I checked it with the computer. It's a balanced position afterwards. Two possible variations: Rook e1, queen g4, rook e3!, h3, rook g3, hxg2, king x g2! (not queen x g2 because of queen d1 check), queen e6 and White plays queen c1! The other variation is. Rook e1, dxc5, Rook e3, Queen g4, King h2!= or Rook e1, dxc5, Rook e3, Queen e6, King h2!, cxb4, Rook h3, Queen a2, Knight x h4! , rook f6, d4!!= (now queen captures bishop b2 would be a losing move because of queen c4!!! check with mate in a few moves. Therefore Black must play the move b7-b5!! after d4 to hold a draw. What do you think of these defence moves for White Daniel? What is your opinion on this line Daniel ? Greetings Volker

Great coverage thanks and great to see the defensive variations - on the other hand firouzja playing lower rated opponents may have adverse consequences if he does end up qualifying for the candidates.

I would prefer seeing games from the black side if black is rge featured POV player. It makes analysis from that side easier.

Guys like caruana ,nakamura ,magnus ,aronian are still better tha alireza but in a few more years ?who knows.in this game what clearly happened in my opinión was that caruana as you said understimated the strong attack.but alireza is an attacking player and guys like magnus and caruana are positional players .its not that they dont see the tactics it that its not in their nature to play in that manner.thats why alireza can out do these guys in blitz because they cant think and there is nonpositional play its more like attack and destroy.

Please, stop flipping the board, it's confusing the first time, maybe funny to you the second time, but after the third time it's really annoying.

@pacovela1969 I do find the flipping of the board very helpful. It did help me find quite a few of Alireza's moves. I hope Daniel will also do it in the future, as nothing beats the perspective from the side of pieces one is playing.

good talent with wrong mindset . i said it few years ago that firouzja behaves way below his age and now a lot of people are realizing it

A few years back? So when he was still a minor. What were you were expecting of him? Last 2 years he made maybe some dubious decisions, but still the man is a very young adult. Sure you made dubious decisions as young adult too

Firouja and his made up tournament has lost him a lot of respect in the chess community. He is now up there with Nieman. He is unethical
@mcronrn

He didn’t break any rules. It was a legit tournament, so legit he was unsuccessful. Don’t see what “ethics” he violate by trying to get into the Candidates - he wasn’t the only one running around at the last minute trying to get a spot.

There's nothing wrong with chessplayers playing chess. Cheating is another matter. Carlsen doesn't need the FIDE championship, and Ali Reza is prominent enough to set up his own tournaments.

@@zachhaywood1564 in a nutshell: Alireza had a small chance to leapfrog Wesley on the rating list, so there was a tournament organized in France (google Race to candidates) with a few rather irrelevant GMs around 200 rating points below Alireza. If Alireza had won all his games he would've overtaken Wesley by a small margin, but apparently he only drew his last game and hence Wesley is still ahead. I think it just goes to show how ridiculous the rules are, it's FIDE's shame, not Alireza's. I personally would've preferred to have Alireza in the candidates cause he's a more exciting player than Wesley, but this last minute French tourney with those lower-rated GMs was really, really dodgy...

So, it appears Alireza passed on a draw here but later fell victim to one. ;) Thanks for the video! I don't know if I have a firm preference on which perspective to see from, but I don't like switching back and forth. I guess it matters the opening on display or who you're narrating the story for.
