I have had doubts of my salvation; then I was honest about my doubts and whether or not I had saving faith and brought them to God, as I begin to take more time with God telling him all of my doubts and spending more time in his word and obeying him, I began to realize many of the doubts I had are lies the devil is trying to get me to believe. Once I began to realize this I learned to separate those lies and I have seen improvement in this area of my life. But it is with constant life commitment to God and spending time with him and being open and honest with him then we realize and uncover truth. God cannot give us doubt the enemy wants to fill our minds with doubt, whether its the devil or myself I don't want to struggle with doubt but we have to realize this to then begin to ignore the enemy and tell him he is a lier..Its a life long process of developing our faith and overcoming our sin.

I feel rattled & destabilized by my brother walking away from his faith that he grew up with. I'm gobsmacked. Unbeknownst to me, he's not telling my family --- so when I told my mother & sister, they disbelieved me. I wanted to pray for him & have support of them concerning this, so I'm now in compounded grief. I am panicked about eternity but he gets angry about attempted input. I pray and cry privately. He KNOWS the plan of salvation.

I live in Columbus, OH (Go Buckeyes) and have been attending Biola at Talbot doing the online Apologetics course and it is AMAZING. Talbot is right in your backtard, I'd love to be close to that school, what an amazing institute and I'm sure yo both have spent your share of time there. Loved this video, including the end when she says she wasn’t an intellectual but more of a flaky artist type. I can relate to that and sometimes you feel like an imposter wanting to know the intellectual side of things. Actually, I believe that the answer to doubts as a believer is to seek the Lord for restoration of faith and trust in Him. Having doubts is a heart issue, which needs to be addressed spiritually and not intellectually.

Believers may be frightened of option ii) but they are deadly scared of option iii) because it ends up with damnation and hellfire. Ironically, for those ex-believers who valued truth so much so, that they risked it all, and ended up rejecting the faith, they often look back and see just how wrong their old belief was and that its claims to having the truth were little more than illusions which, in many cases, kept them in bondage for years. What I describe just above is not the case for everyone. But there is an irony to Kirk's words when he appeals to "truth" while requiring only one possible outcome to doubt, namely the maintenance of the faith. Finally, non believers don't necessarily have "wicked" hearts any more than believers necessarily have pure hearts. If readers of this post listen to various deconversion testimonies, one thing they will often hear is of ex believers saying that meeting people outside of the Christian bubble was one of the things that led them to see how wrong their own versions of the truth were. "versions of the truth" is an appropriate phrase to use, given that Christians often engage in mutual fingerpointing exercises over who actually teaches it.

I became an atheist when I came to realise that I had insufficient evidence to justify my belief in any god or gods. I found that the more that I looked for evidence, with an open mind, the less I found. Not mine but "a honest person who realises that they are mistaken is either no longer mistaken or no longer honest". Read 1 Corinthians 15: 14 and I say to you with the same degree of confidence that the sun will rise tomorrow that there is zero empirical evidence to support the biblical resurrection claim. I hope that you will agree that belief without sufficient evidence is indistinguishable from gullibility and I am sure neither of us wishes to be "gullible".

I think you could just start by studying the Bible, doing a deep dive into whatever passage you read. Research words or phrases you don’t understand, research the context, learn the original Greek or Hebrew words. I'm new to this as well, but Alisa's book "Another Gospel?" is an easy to follow book. It helped me understand a lot of basics and led me to studying scripture more, following KZbin videos and reading a couple of other books. I needed baby steps :) I'll dive deeper a little later, but spending a lot of time in scripture right now. The website/app Blue Letter Bible helps a lot with terminology, original meanings of words (ex Hebrew, etc).

Yep, the Bible is a reliable collection of ancient documents written by eyewitnesses in the lifetime of other eyewitnesses (therefore verifiable or falsifiable by other people at the time, and nobody ever tried to claim it was false), written by over 40 authors over a period of 15,000 years. It is remarkably cohesive. It's been studied by textual scholars and proven to be reliable. There are more copies of the New Testament alone than of all the other ancient manuscripts put together (eg, Homer, Aristotle, Socrates, and many others) and they are far more recent than any of those. Plus, there are thousands of archeological sites which verify the truth of the Bible. And that's just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to verifying the Bible. So, eyewitnesses reported seeing Jesus alive, (over 500 of them), over a period of 40 days after the crucifixion. This is known as circumstantial evidence, which definitely stands up in a court of law. Some skeptical lawyer looked into all the evidence as if it were a court case, and was absolutely convinced that the eyewitnesses accounts stood up to scrutiny. He wrote a book about it. But then, there are always people who DON'T WANT to believe!😮😢

Well, the way I understand this video, it is more about ignoring the doubts without searching for truth. Searching scripture, praying, studying historical books are healthy habits for a Christian. Double-minded, in the scripture you mentioned, is more about instability - not trying to become stable and secure, being tossed to and fro by anything and everything. That's my takeaway from that scripture.

The NT is full of errors. How does apologetics explain these issues. I'll give one example, and if this one cannot be fully explained, why should one believe anything written in the NT. Was Herod alive or dead when Jesus was born?it is virtually impossible that he could be both alive and dead but this is what the gospels teach. In Matthew he is very much alive. In Luke he is several years dead. Was the holy spirit confused as to the timing of god's birth?

@@mkathrynblacker5960 oh dear Kathy I admire your passion to defend. Herod died in 4 bce. Which means Jesus was already born by this date if Herod was killing babies 2 yrs and under. However, in Luke the dating of Jesus birth was in accordance with the census that was given at the time when Quirinus was governor of Syria . Judea was divided 3 ways after Herod died two of his sons reigned over two parts. This census is dated after 6 AD. ( Please Google it for yourself) So my dear friend, it is historically impossible for Jesus to have been born before Herod died in 4 BCE as well as at the time of the census a couple years after Herod died. This is not taught in church and for good reason. It exposes a few major errors. What you will learn in church is a beautiful blended version of the two accounts that causes people not to question or think for themselves because very few actually read the full accounts themselves and compare them. @4:33 - call this poisoning the well or projection, but you're just asking the believer to do the same - to dig their heels when in doubt and proclaim that the Jesus narrative must be real and so I will "honestly" find a way to make it true. You're just doing the same with out the connotative language of being stubborn and a big meanie trying to hate on God. Sorry to say - but most who've left the faith, did so not out of the angriness you try to wrap onto doubt but rather out of sadness, fear and ruthless honesty with oneself and facts. Oh, and I'm not so sure that the sciences (archeology as specifically called out) is getting better for the apologist. It's quite the opposite. The of the lack of evidence and evidence against the Biblical narrative is just one of many reasons why one should doubt.
