Norm Geisler is one of the most prolific and influential scholars and apologists of our time. He went from not being able to read until he was seventeen years old to earning a PhD in Philosophy and founding two Seminaries. He authored, co-authored, or edited over 90 books, debated countless atheists, and became a force for defending the Christian worldview. He was also one of the most influential thinkers in my own life. In this special episode, I interview his son, David Geisler about the new documentary on Norm's life that showcases the heart, mind, and dedication of this fascinating man.

I had Dr. Norm Geisler for 4 theology and apologetics classes for my Masters degree at Dallas Theological Seminary back in the early 1980s. He was a very good professor, from whom I learned a great amount of information in classical theology, philosophy and church history. He wasn't a 5 point calvinist, but neither were many other DTS profs. He had a great sense of humor and I'll never forgot his testimony of the Sunday school teacher who helped lead him to the Lord and how God uses ordinary believers in extraordinary ways. God bless Dr. Geisler's legacy!

I grew up with Norm. He drove me to school. One thing that I remember most was that each of us memorized a verse a day. He loved the Bible. He also wrote the preface to my book Certainty, a Place to Stand. What David is saying is everything I knew about Norm.

Well I never heard of Mr. Norman Geisler‘s name before but that’s incredible how he has really helped build apologetics in his time and just hearing from what he did of helping Christians being able to defend the faith is wonderful. Praise God his work has helped you Alisa in your walk, that God continues to bless the legacy of his family and what he has started with his ministry and with two theological seminary he founded. God bless you both always

@JamesRichardWiley ok troll . Your goal is deride Christians so that you can feel secure in your unbelief. Go cry in your safe space . Go visit bart Ehrman's blog and complain. Don't use weasel words like evidence. You don't know what it means. You can't accept the fact that christianity can be defended intellectually. So you attack apologists as seen in the multiple dubious claims made About apologists on your channel

Alisa, thanks for posting this interview concerning Dr Norman Geisler. My introduction to him was a series of debates on the John Ankerberg Show decades ago. I was very impressed with his skill & articulation. Concerning the influences of Zoroastrianism & the many other pagan religions. The prophet Zoroaster himself is dated c. 6th century BCE. Moses in the Torah/Takakh is dated c. 1500 BCE (genealogies of Genesis 5,11,26,46 & 1 Chronicles 1-9, even allowing for a gap of at least several generations). Way too late for an influence on Moses. The pagan nations the Amorites were more contemporary with Moses (Deuteronomy 31:4; Numbers 21:21-25). Concerning the concept of hell, the early revelation of God’s fiery judgment on people’s sins is described in detail in Genesis 19, with the fiery destruction of Sodom & all of the people of that city. This was long before Zoroaster & the pagan religions that influenced him. Hell is also mentioned in Isaiah 33:14 & in Daniel 12:2 & the more developed revelation in Luke 16:19-31 by Jesus. Joshua, the successor to Moses, went into Jericho & drove out such powerful nations as the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Hivites, the Perizzites, the Girgashites, the Amorites, and the Jebusites, with their various religious rituals & beliefs, that would be corrupting influences to the Israelites in Joshua 3:10-11. So, no, none of them influenced the Israelites after Moses’ Law had already been constructed. On Mount Sinai YHWH-Elohim made certain that Moses got it right, as he was instructed. Concerning the pagans influencing the ideas of child sacrifice & the ideas of hell, pagan nations took the ideas of Genesis experiences & seriously perverted them. For example, Abraham’s near-sacrifice of his son, Isaac, on God’s altar, became perverted into child sacrifices in pagan cultures in Leviticus 18:21; 2 Kings 16:3; 2 Kings 21:6; 2 Kings 23:10. Also blended with this idea is the burnt sacrifices of male animals/male children to gain favor with the gods in Leviticus 1:2-9. Ultimately, Rabbi Jesus of Nazareth was the ultimate scholar & debater of his era. He even took on groups of sophisticated scholars of his time & refuted every one of them publicly. If anyone would see historical inaccuracies or contradictions in the Tanakh/Old Testament, it would certainly be him. Jesus debated the Pharisees extensively in Mark 7:1-13 concerning conflicts & contradictions between the “Traditions of the Elders” & Moses’ Law. If there were any contradictions or pagan influences in Moses Law, Rabbi Jesus would have corrected them. Jesus of Nazareth is the ultimate authority because of his resurrection from death. Those who doubt need to repent of their sins & receive Jesus Christ into their life & make Jesus Lord of their life. Jesus gives Eternal Life. Without Jesus is Eternal punishment. ✝📖🎓💻❤

Books, classes…..? Thanks for Mr. Geisler’s interview!

Great conversation! I'm looking forward to seeing the film when I can! For the question about Zorastrianism-- Its interesting how the internet seems to be trying to revive this very ancient, and very small in numbers (today) religion. Its worth knowing a little about it. The god Ahura Mazda has a very different character than the God of the Bible. He's very "hands off". Zorastrianism is about an extreme for of free will in which history is basically directionless (well beyond orthodox Arminianism) and the universe exists in dualisms with good and evil as equal but opposite. Adherents try to defeat evil and bring about good through good thoughts, good words, and good deeds. Its very much a works based religion. There are some really stark theological differences just in the brief description I've given here, so that alone I think is good starting ground to refute the idea that Judaism came out of Zorastrianism. Also, the Book of Esther is a great text to reference. Esther took place in Iran when Zorastrianism was the predominant religion. When you understand that the Jews of Susa were living in a context where people didn't believe in a sovereign God, the emphasis in that book about God working behind the scenes to bring about His plan and purpose becomes that much more powerful, as He's revealing His character to be different than the idol of that particular people. :)

Hello Alisa. I have a KZbin channel in Portuguese targeted to Brazilian Pentecostals. Our denomination is very large, but winds of Word of Faith, New Age/New Thought, and of course, culture influence that lead to progressive Christianity, is moving slowly into many churches. I read your book, and even mentioned in a couple of my classes. I would love the opportunity to make some of your videos available to my community, but it would have to be translated into Portuguese. Would you be willing to work that with me? How could I get in contact with you? Thank you, and many blessings, Manuela

Who are the Top pro-christian Apologists or scholars? Josh McDowell? C. S. Lewis? There are several. But who would you pick for your Top-Dream-Team? I would say, most likely: Gary Habermas, Mike Licona, Norm Geisler, Lee Strobel and also Greg Boyd. (see Greg's old book: Jesus Under Siege). That's a serious amount of knowledge! These guys can defend the Faith probably as good as anybody. I don't believe in Calvinism, though. But who would be the serious challengers to that Team, on the other side? The skeptical side. No, I'm not picking Bart Ehrman or Sam Harris. I'd say: Dan Barker, Bertrand Russell and Robert M. Price. Who will write the books that out-argue or disprove these guys? Imagine sharing the Faith with an unbeliever: #1, Christian: You should read C. S. Lewis's "mere Christianity" "Non-committed": You should read Robert M. Price's "merely Christianity" #2. Christian: You should read Josh McDowell's "Evidence That Demands a Verdict" Non-committed: You should read Dan Barker's "Losing Faith in Faith" (now retitled?- "Godless" ?) #3. Christian: You should read Lee Strobel's "The Case for Christ" Non-committed: You should read Robert M. Price's "The Case Against the Case for Christ" #4. Christian: You should read Norm Geisler's Apologetics book. Non-committed: You should read "Why I Am Not a Christian" by Bertrand Russell. Apologists don't write books refuting these skeptical books. They just introduce us to new apologists who write some new book, saying how it's all true, all over again, but they haven't disproven the books challenging the faith. Avoidance isn't an answer. What now?

I just spent years of my life in and out of charismatic legalism and chaos where people plugged my nose and slapped me to get demons out and everyone yelled at me all the time and treated me like garbage. And if it wasn't that it was end times watch stuff, or people fighting about doctrine. Like I get why people are against CRT, Marxists etc. and stuff, why it's wrong but listening to people complain about this on all these different channels is depressing and I want God to take me out.

Norm Geisler is not a very good apologist. I have his book on Bible Difficulties and its not very useful. He resolves supposed contradictions very often by contrived speculation. He also consistently beclowned himself any time he interacted with calvinists.

I remember James White's pummeling of Norm in his bok The Potters Freedom which blows to pieced Chosen But Free philosophically, exegetically and theologically! Norm tried to get the Christian Missionary Alliance church to revoke the preaching ministry of Murray Harris. He persued this man relentlessly over a debatable point on the resurrection. Which few but Norm saw as really problematic. Sinful! Shameful!

Geisler's theology was very problematic. he emphasized logic as the supreme authority. if it doesn't make sense, no matter what scripture says, it can't be true. do we really expect to understand everything about God? Geisler believed we should be able to. that seems very arrogant. also why does his son dye his hair?
