Matt. 7 : 21-23 “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’ So many are just making stuff up and sticking on the vocabulary and names of scripture, even the Lord's name. Lord, have mercy on us all not to be deceived and come to Your truth.

After watching my old church of 12 years start down this path, I’ve really been on a deep dive to learn more about progressive Christianity and this new age thinking. Not for my own benefit, but to be able to speak against it. This is a great breakdown but it also breaks my heart to hear.

I like the nice ones that care to find a middle ground 2. Pride is a major downfall, and same with some new Agers which makes it hard to talk to them. We aren’t blind. They don’t read the Bible, or they take a verse that they think supports some liberal agenda, then then run with that. Others are chiller, but deceived so much that they really shouldn’t be! I even had to argue with one about why it’s bad to cuss people out and use vile words 🤦🏾‍♀️

@@tiredoftheworld4834 If you are tired of the world, you haven't seen what is real. With different eyes, you see the light in everyone, not as separate bodies, some, always self included, better than others. But we are one Spirit. John 17:20-21 New King James Version Jesus Prays for All Believers 20 “I do not pray for these alone, but also for those who [a]will believe in Me through their word; 21 that they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me. You'll see the note here, ,"Jesus prays for all believers." Many Christians see themselves as the special ones here, all others excluded except the ones that convert in one lifetime. If they would, as Jesus says, leave the 99 behind and go after the one, that would make them better than the god they think sends people to hell if they don't make the grade before their bodies die. We are not bodies. John 3:6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. When you accept all of the Bible as true, you must think God created these bodies that die or that they condemned us to death since we are guilty. That comes from peoples' own guilt.Jesus said what the world looks like as Spirit when you forgive: we are all still as God created us and don't have the power to change that. Matthew 12:7, NIV: If you had known what these words mean, 'I desire mercy, not sacrifice,' you would not have condemned the innocent. Sacrifice confirms we are evil.

This saddens me as a born-again Christian. Deception is the work of the evil one, and progressive "christianty" is his masterpiece. The Bible calls this apostasy. My prayer is that those who are blinded by this false religion will hear the Truth of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and receive Him as Lord and Savior.

I do understand that someone wants to sell books, and get up on a stage an get a small salary - fine, but what I do not understand (while I know it exists) is that when someone calling themselves a Christian, lies and twists data - to sell books. Here are my own experience as a liberal Christian. 1) By following the teachings of Jesus can lead to an experience of the sacred - yeah, it could. Oneness and unity of all life? What... what do you even mean? then Alisa continues it´s borrowed from eastern thoughts and new age... aaahhh, sry I don´t have anything to do with that! Nor ANY of the liberal Christians I personally know. Same with "pantheism", that has nothing to do with liberal Christianity... please stop making up things. 2) Is a bit tricky text... and should be detailed so that one can answer it. Going strictly for what it says, one could claim that if someone would have an experience of sacredness beside Jesus teachings, could also mean one that get it from the songs of David, or from a text of Job or Isaiah. Is that wrong? Or if someone read a spiritual book about their life journey, and one get a sacred feeling out of it... yeah sure that could happen. But are all sacred experiences true? NO! And I do believe that Jesus is the only way to God! 3) Seek community that is all inclusive - an ABSOLUTE YES! Reminds me of the people Jesus had in his community. They were called sinners by the religious elite who didn´t like that Jesus ate and spent time with them. But Jesus said, it is the ill persons who need a doctor! But if I interpret this as she says, it sounds like this is really bad.... just as the elite tried to frame it in Jesus time. 4) What we do... she nearly agrees with us progressives, what we believe is reflected in how we behave towards each other. But then she tries to add that actions are more important than belief. Personally i can say that belief is more important. 5) Is again a tricky written question... (I would not use the term grace - but then again I am not English speaking!)... let me rephrase it - asking questions is important, and especially if one wants to know more about a thing. I even think conservatives believe that! "More value in questioning than absolute" is a truth with a twist. If we can conclude an absolute answer that is much more important than asking questions, but I believe that to be able to find that or come close, one HAS TO ASK QUESTIONS. If the question is - are there other planets in our solar system, the answer YES is 1000 times better than asking again, because we have found an answer. In religion, there are however MANY complicated things, where some people try to project that we have an absolute answer when we do not have it... in those cases it is important to continue questioning. 6) Yes we strive for peace and justice - don´t you? 7) Funny Alisa agrees with most progressive goals at first, but then needs to find some interpretation that differ. then again the "panantheism" no we don´t believe in that... and while we strive for environmental goals, that is NOT A GOSPEL, and has never been. The idea is that God has given us the ea preserve and protect it.rth to care for, both animals and the planet. and we as God´s people need to do our best to preserve it. - I am sorry if this is some evil sin we have. 8) Thx Alisa for also agreeing with nr 8... learning, compassion and selfless love... those are though goals, but we should strive there. And Alisa - I (we) do rejoice IN THE TRUTH! Jesus is God!

@@frankstanley8499 Actually, the commandment says, "Thou shalt not wear a garment of divers sorts, as of woolen and linen together" (Deuteronomy 22:11). First of all, it would be nearly impossible to make such a garment: linen is very fine and smooth, while wool is too thick and coarse. It would be like weaving shoelaces with barbed wire. Secondly, even if you could make such a garment, it would be impossible to maintain it. Linen must be washed in water, but wool must be dry-cleaned. Regardless of how you try it, wool would shrink every time it is cleaned, so the garment would be ruined and unusable before long.

I came across a Facebook post titled THE OTHER SERENITY PRAYER. They used only the first paragraph. It read "God grant me the serenity to stop beating myself for not doing things perfectly, the courage to forgive myself because I'm working on doing better, and the wisdom to know that you already love just the way I am." ---------- The first paragraph of the actual Serenity Prayer goes "God grant the me serenity to accept the things I cannot change. The courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference. The first one should be titled "The Egotistic Serenity Prayer."

Progressive means a belief in man progressing toward greater things; they believe in human perfectibility. They believe that if all who agree join together, "we can do it!' Progressivism doesn't acknowledge the God who is real, and who has revealed Himself to those who are willing to believe in Him. Jesus said God has has hidden His truth from the _wise_ and _prudent _ and has revealed His truth to the "babes". The progressives, alone, aren't too wise in their own eyes to believe; there are plenty of conservatives in the same boat. That's just one reason we need to quit dragging God down to the level of the politicians, Left or Right. The most important is that God is Holy, and mankind is not, including all politicians and their political philosophies. All are sinful, loaded with pragmatism, which denies the importance of the holiness and truth of God.

Progressive Christianity is a syncretism between the old religion, Christianity, and the new religion, atheism. Often when a society moves from one religion to another there is an intermediary period where the two religions are combined, for example there were Scandinavians a thousand years ago who worshipped Jesus and Thor before moving entirely to the new religion, Christianity.

For somebody who claims the people that she is criticizing make a lot of assumptions and assertions, she sure makes a lot of assumptions and assertions. Saying that everybody deserves death is one of the most hateful and arrogant things that people like her say. It’s the same type of thing and abuser tells its victim in order to keep it feeling worthless, and the church has been doing this for centuries. My response to that vitriol is always “well? You first.” It is not an assumption to claim that all life is connected. We have many different ways to show this, but if you cover your eyes and plug your ears and sing la la la when presented with it then you are a fool, plain and simple. It’s not hard to understand why church populations are on the decrease, but of course they will continue to blame it on a snake and some fruit. That’s another tactic of an abuser, that when the victim finally breaks away they still try to put the blame on them.

The message of forgiveness and recognition that we are all the flawed is not anything divinely inspired, though, it is simply called humility. Morality is a natural part of our evolution as human beings. We are not the only living things on this planet to have emotions such as sadness and empathy, and as social creatures it was beneficial for us to not kill, steal from, and otherwise be destructive towards each other. Children have this empathy naturally, and it's only when they witness or are subjected to cruel things like you an this woman preach, and you are a horrible human being if you think a child would go to hell if they are not "saved". Alisa, in the initial soundbite you chose your first sentence is complete garbage. Perhaps it applies to Universal Unitarianism, but not in any progressive church I have ever encountered. I'll listen to the rest later today, but honestly, when you start your argument with a false statement it undercuts everything that follows. This next sentences are not bragging but simply stating my background and the foundation of my faith. I have read the Bible cover to cover over ten times and the Sermon on the Mount and James each thousands of times. My major was chemistry but my foreign language was Koine Greek working from the Nestle-Aland text. After recognizing that modern American evangelicalism completely ignores the Sermon on the Mount and the the importance of actual discipleship to act and love as Jesus did, I found myself at a crossroads where my faith was firm but was undercut by what was commonly preached from the pulpit. When I first went to a progressive church at the request of a friend I did not expect to go back because I believe the Bible, however, what I found was closer to the Book of Acts than anything I had ever encountered in a mainstream denomination or independent church. The board specifically was made up of believers and NOT the wealthiest members of the church. Volunteerism was expected at a point where if you showed up for more than a month one of the pastors would ask you to help in some capacity without asking for you to support the church through tithing. Alisa, have you ever been to a church like that because I doubt you have. They simply do not exist in mainline denominations. It also fails in any way to align with your first sentence and as such I believe you are confusing progressive Christianity with something entirely different and based purely on your own anecdotal experience. I do hope you will respond but I recognize that is unlikely. I do not know what kind of Christian you are and have no desire to judge or label you, much less, become your enemy. Pax.

Thank you for all that you do! I’ve learned so much of what to look for. Just the other day I watched a Holy Post podcast video with Jen Hatmaker, just to see what would be said. One thing that struck me was this sense of striving and “look at me, I have it all figured out now”-but it just made me feel kinda empty and anxious. But what really stood out to me was that one of the hosts asked her what she missed most from traditional/historic Christianity and she said “the certainty”, which you have clued me in on-that progressives almost worship uncertainty-but it made me sad bc it was like almost in that moment she thought “maybe I’m wrong, maybe I should turn back from this” but then she dismissed it and embraced the uncertainty again. It just really struck me, and then I find this video about the uncertainty thing. It’s all very interesting.

I attended a church a few years ago. For the most part, it seemed like a pretty good church. There were some problems, and also, because it was another race, I picked up that they probably didn't really want me there. But a lot seemed really sound and I enjoyed going there while I did. One thing bothered me when the kids led the music. They were highschool and college students, and they gathered on stage, with some musicians, a guitarist or maybe two, a piano player, a drummer, and sometimes a saxophonist. The singers had tambourines if the songs were appropriate for them. For the most part, the songs were okay, although I'd have preferred more older hymns and spirituals. But they had one that worried me: "The Jesus in me greets the Jesus in you". I wasn't sure that they did not mean it as born again Christians, talking about Jesus being in us, through the indwelling Holy Spirit, or whether it was just trying to syncretize the extremely popular "Namaste" of yoga practitioners and popular Buddhism., as if it was the same as the Holy Spirit indwelling us, when it isn't. It was possible to think about it both ways, but I was a visitor there. Had I tried to delve more into what they meant by that, I would have been seen as ungrateful, and perhaps wanting to think the worst. That wasn't true; I was just worried about it. Maybe I should have been more willing to be hated, but I kept my mouth shut, and never even mentioned it to the lady whose guest I was. I haven't talked to her since the pandemic, but to be fair, my phone broke and I got a new one, and her number was in the old phone.

This is all very familiar to anyone who has been following Marxist thought. I started reading a book that I picked up some years ago. Christianity and Liberalism, by J. Gresham Machen. One passage: "The truth is, the God of modern preaching, though He may perhaps be very good, is rather uninteresting. Nothing is so insipid as indiscriminate good humor. Is that really love that costs so little? If God necessarily forgive, no matter what we do, why trouble ourselves about Him at all? Such a God may deliver us from the fear of hell. But his heaven, if He has any, is full of sin." This was written 100 years ago. Which also reminds me, I don't remember the word "sin" or the cross mentioned in that progressive list at all.

On the subject of panentheism, I wonder what to do with verses in Colossians like 3:11 "Christ is all and is in all" or 1:17 "in him all things hold together". Maybe I'm just misreading these out of their context or something, but they seem to hint at something of Christ being throughout all things.

You're taking some of this too literally and misinterpreting it. When someone says, 'I see Jesus in everyone', they don't literally think that Jesus is 'in' them, inserted like a glove. It's like saying to a young man, "I see a lot of your father in you", the speaker doesn't think the guy's father is literally 'in' him. And weren't we created in God's image? So, of course, we're going to 'see Jesus in some people.' I've heard old ladies using phrases like that, it's not New Age. We're going to 'see God' in God's creation (nature), like we 'see the artist' in their art. Artists infuse their personality and character into their art. God infuses some of his character and nature into man. The bible says so but uses different words.

What she meant when she said that progressive Christians don't ask questions in search of answers is that they are not looking for the truth, but rather for a version that gives them comfort, an answer that works; it doesn't matter to them whether that answer is true or not, what matters is that it makes them feel better. It's all about them, it's extremely subjective. They have no interest in anything objective. Funny enough, this way of seeing God only reinforces the atheist idea that God is an imaginary friend that man created to escape pain.

The bible account is, something else altogether and totally different . As to whether it is true or false I cannot say, cause I honestly do not know. If it is true there must certainly be, if not plenty, at least some evidence of it. Upon reading some of the bible it appears to me, an exposition, as well as an example of Gods law as well as Gods grace, as the theologians claim. According to the bible, in the beginning God created the world as also the laws governing its working, its motives or causes, its ways and means or methods, and its ends. God being perfect, his creation was also perfect. Meaning both the world with everything and everyone in it, including man, as well as the laws governing the workings of the world always was, and I say always still is perfect. This perfect law btw is merely sowing and reaping which says, if you want good for yourself, be good to others, if you want evil for yourself be evil to others, if you want neither good nor evil for yourself, be neither good nor evil to others. While fortunately the law always allows for the possibility of progression or betterment but unfortunately it also allows for the possibility of retrogression or worsening. So there is no such thing as non-progressive Christianity, only progressive Christianity. But the bible says that God also created man and put the rest of the world under mans care, and God being perfect, man was perfect, but man fell into imperfection by choice cause freedom is always free to choose to be bound but never bound to choose to be free, consequently all of Gods creation which God had put under man's care also fell into imperfection. So the bible says, as an act of grace, and I would like to think only out of a feeling and out of a sense of love and kindness towards his creation than out of a feeling, and out of a sense of dissapointment, derision, disgust, contempt or condescension, God came down from heaven to bear the burden of, and to pay the price for mans imperfection so that man can experience and enjoy the fruit of his perfection. I dont believe or buy into this narrative even one bit. But I have absolutely nothing against those who do.

I am not a christian but I am all for progress and science. But I know for a fact that the first step toward gaining in true knowledge especially gaining in scientific knowledge is the acknowledging and the admitting of ones own ignorance which requires the humbling of oneself, and the subsequent step involves trying, working and making an earnest, sincere and dedicated effort toward acquiring true knowledge in that area or subject of study or any other chosen area of endeavour, although the best motivation for that would be purely only as a means and as an end to serve the world and the community at large, and not as a means and as an end to profit from and to make money out of it; I suppose much like a christian would say, the first step toward gaining in virtue would be the confessing and the acknowledging and admitting of ones sin and the subsequent steps would involve repenting from, turning away from and shunning all sin and evil, and doing all one can to be virtuous.

I mean, in all those points there is something which _Apostolic_ Christians can agree with at some level (e.g. one cornerstone of the relationship with God is admitting the fact that God is mystery, He is not a concept but a person, and therefore we cannot reach the absolute understanding of the Truth - which does not mean absolutes doesn't exist or that we have not received the correct faith that was once delivered to the saints)… but that's exactly the problem. Those points are so vague that they can mean practically anything people want them to mean, and that's kinda dangerous, and this video shows one aspect of these dangers.
