Perfect timing. I'm planning on upcycling my husband's shirt. But I'm definitely leaving the button placket alone . The extra work seems unnecessary to me. Weird as it sounds, I like that it pays homage to the fact that it used to belong to him.
@ThoughtfulCreativity

I don't mind the button placket being where it is either, but since I got so many comments about it - I decided to problem solve it this time. Sometimes what bothers me about the original button plackets is how wide they are, but other than that I don't mind. I don't think it sounds weird, I think there is something special knowing that it was your husband's shirt!

You showed some great examples of how to change the placket. This a video I will be saving and referring to often as I "rescued" several of his shirts from the donation pile. The quality of the fabrics was just too good and will save me so much money. Thank you for all your help and ard work!

This shirt series is amazing. Have you ever seen YT quilter, Kathy Martin, @TheCatBirdQuilts? She makes quilts from Men’s Dress Shirts. Your two channels have a perfect connection, overlapping at this video series. What if we buy a men’s shirt for quilt fabric, but we love the fabric so much we really want to wear it? You have the answer. I hope you two creators can find each other. I will comment on her channel about you too. 😉🙋‍♀️🧵🪡

It takes time to learn new things, totally normal, I do things over and over until it clicks and always have been all my life, I think that rarely something happens from the first try, with social media and fast pace of it I sometimes think we build an illusion that everything supposed to happen quick and easy. I know I am a part of this "problem", but I try to pass down to people what I know along with knowing that it takes time, almost all good things do, but the beautiful thing is that every time goes a little bit faster and easier :)

I love the dark blue accents. I wasn’t sold on the blue lace trim, but the finish on the collar plus changing the buttons to dark blue instead of white really brought it all together. It looks very high end and not an upcycle at all.

I love when people notice all the little details that went into :) I am with you, at first the blue trim did seem a bit bright, although I really like it, and then I decided to do all blue top stitching, blue rolled hem on the collar and the buttons and I think it brought it together :) thank you, Susan, makes my heart sing when we dive into details :)

Wow! that blouse is beautiful. I have been wanting some soft feminine blouses to wear with skirts, jumper dresses, dress slacks and jeans. I used to keep at least three (all white) feminine blouses in my wardrobe (when they were still being sold in ladies dress shops). That way I could put together a perfect outfit (in a rush) for almost any event. I have not seen a ladies dress shop in years. You can shave off the top threads of a button hole with an eyebrow razor/bikini line trimmer. That way you can save a bit more of your fabric.

Ooooh, thank you, that's a great tip! This blouse would be great in white or any other neutral color to go with everything, as you mentioned. I am glad you found this inspirational :)

I love all all your ideas, but since I'm very overweight, all I have to do is roll up sleeves! I have a lovely shirt with slightly frayed cuffs and collar, but think I'll round the neckline and face with bias binding, shorten the body and add some fisheye darts. I may keep some of the cuff's tower placket and create a narrow cuff that I can gather the sleeve into. I'm not very confident about this part, but then, I can always hack it off and make a short sleeve. It would make a great place for some embroidery!

Extra large men's shirts are a marvellous resource - beautiful quality cotton, lovely stripes/checks, and often ridiculously cheap to find at charity shops. I have recycled several to make little cotton blouses for myself. I like the feminine touches with the gathers and the trim, too 😍 I very much enjoyed this video, Alysa, thank you! 🙏

Very lovely result, thank you for showing us! I'm way too lazy to change the side of buttons, I don't care and I'd be very unconcerned if somebody pointed it out. I know there's some reason behind it but I just don't really get why it matters.

Apparently the reason why is that ladies’ maids were generally right handed, so buttons were reversed so they could button things more easily. It just stuck. I also don’t care if they are buttoned like men’s shirts, seeing as my ladies’ maid ran off with the butler a while ago!😂

I have a few business shirts to upcycle. I am going to try to create an empire line top inspired by the many empire lines seen in the costumes in the movie Bridgerton. I get a lot of clothing inspiration from watching movies and from your tutorials. Thank you again.

Olga, hello there! I have tried to make my own, by the suggestion of one of the viewers and it helped a little. but I can still see them :( I tried vinegar this time as well, and of course steaming, washing, fluffing and still there... Perhaps it is because the shirt is over a decade old, maybe even 2 decades.

@@ThoughtfulCreativity Have you heard of the Folding pen from Clover? I haven't tried it myself, but I've read that some people use it not only for folding, as the name suggests, but also for removing creases from fabric. Perhaps it would help with removing stitch marks as well.
