Excellent lesson! I find it so interesting how so. many coaches these days focus on tilt and yet no reference to the Stack &Tilt system is rarely mentioned. In other words it’s a key tenet of S&T. The best players all do it and yet no one calls it by name. But you’ve provided a wonderfully simplified concept here so thanks! “Left shoulder down, right shoulder down” doesn’t get much simpler!
@marcmarini84253 жыл бұрын
Your right, they don't want to say stack and tilt. Tiger said said he wants to feel stacked over the ball and then tilt part is just good mechanics.
@TheBerkeleybob3 жыл бұрын
@@marcmarini8425 100% For reasons unknown most teaching pros are loathe to ascribe any of these known "best practices" to S&T. But all the best best tour players tilt, of course, and many also stack. I used to play with a pro back in the 90's and way back then he always focused on his left side ONLY and had most weight on his left leg sat the start of the swing.

I like this. I've been working on the same principle but with a different emphasis, I pull my right shoulder up in the backswing and then pull my left shoulder up in the downswing, same principle but different way of feeling it. This definitely keeps me more stable and rotating around a fixed point where I was moving much more previously. Thanks

Definitely something I will try out at the range. Are you doing anything specifically with your takeaway with this action too to ensure your club face is right? If so what is the feel and movement please?
@pmoneyish68692 жыл бұрын
What you stated about your issue on the downswing is the issue most people have I think. With very steep shoulders in the backswing the club shaft is usually too steep and then a "move" has to happen in the downswing to shallow that shaft which is complicated and error prone for most people it seems. Flatter (not completely) shoulders without coming out of posture (like you explained) allows the club shaft to stay shallow throughout the swing and gives a more swooping feeling (not scooping but swooping) at the golf ball leading to easy feeling to contact imo. Most people are always too steep with the shaft coming into the ball rarely are people shallow but shallow would give a better result. I always think of this as turning your torso and your shoulders will follow.

Awesome, Ali! I suspected I lose my shoulder angle sometimes and get a flattish turn which results in feeling like I cannot make a full turn and standup. Then I wonder why I feel like I lost eye contact with the ball at times. Tends to happen later in the round. Maybe tired or lazy. In California US, so taking it to the course tomorrow. Practicing outside today I'm getting a full turn, head is where it is supposed to be. Shoulder down keeps everything much more compact. Thanks!

Good video. Going off topic, but I bought my first set of clubs in 1969 and have cleaned clubs hundreds of times. Without looking at the number on the bottom of a club, I could usually tell which club it was. When I saw your 7 iron from the face-on view, I would swear it's a 4 iron. Have the lofts on clubs today really become that much stronger? Is there even a standard loft for each iron these days from one manufacturer to the next?

You haven’t mentioned shaft lean. Does that happen naturally with the swing as you are teaching it?
@rhull39393 жыл бұрын
If you're in the right sequence it does. If your arms and hands are the last thing to move in your sequence on the downswing, your hands naturally get through the ball before the clubhead and you'll have some forward shaft lean.

I focus on my eyes being vertical rather than horizontal as a feeling for this. After strike as the ball is flying away my eyeline is horizontal and it helps me maintain the spine angle through the strike and stops me standing up. I will try the shoulder feeling too

I tried this briefly in my living room a bit ago. I'm good with the forward shoulder dropping down part but felt a tendency to "raise up" on the turn to get the right shoulder to drop down. I rewatched the video and it seems you keep your left shoulder down throughout the remainder of the swing. I felt that this shortened my swing and felt that I needed to grip lower on the club since the swing felt shortened, or maybe I just didn't do it right. I was trying to raise the left shoulder up at the top of my swing to be able to lower the right side but it seems your instruction is to do "left low" then "right low" and keep the left low throughout. Correct?
@johnvera43823 жыл бұрын

@nokia53592 жыл бұрын
i believe this swinging have merit and tried this method many times. i just can NOT make the transition from up to down swing. always lose side bend, stalled and digged a hole a foot behind ball.
@pmoneyish68692 жыл бұрын
Striking the ball has more to do with your hips than the turn. The center of your pelvis is where the low point of the arc in the swing will be. Hitting down on the ball simply means hitting the ball in the downward part of the swing arc (before the low point). So if your low point is in front of the ball you'll be hitting down on the ball. The center of your pelvis (ppl just say hips) needs to be in front of the ball in the downswing. Then you won't hit a foot behind the ball ever as you can't hit the ground until the low point. This is how you get those nice divots in front of the ball and why the common phrase "it's all in the hips" exists. Get the hips in front of the ball in the downswing.
@danielmosias62803 жыл бұрын

I disagree with your title/premise…you are still turning the shoulders. The key is to do it on the correct plane where you are rotating your shoulders like a clock (up and down) and not like a compass (flat). This is right out of the first chapter of the Stack & Tilt textbook. That’s actually the approach I use for warmups and it helps me feel the solid contact. Once I do that, I feel much better whenever I decide to try different shots.

The TILTING takes care of the TURNING! The down swing starts with the Lead shoulder REMAINING tilted down until the shaft is about parallel to the ground when the trail shoulder starts going down and the lead shoulder goes up thru to impact and follow thru.
@jsusna19722 жыл бұрын

I have to say I'm not a fan of this, because it gets you leaning towards the target at the top. I've had a lot of success keeping my weight more back over my trail foot in the backswing. It just feels like when doing that there are fewer moving parts and it's easier to transfer your weight. It's just more efficient that way imo.
