It’d make you sound like an edge lord, “oh how did you get that scar?” “It’s from my autopsy!” it’d make you sound like you’re about to say “it’s from when I got into a fight, and I was declared dead, of course, I absolutely pummelled the guy, but he knocked me out in the end hard enough to be declared dead”

Okay, but no one is thinking about the possible context that would have to be in. He'd either be on a beach or in a bed to be shirtless (at least in a social context). So imagine he's just about to get it on with this girl and tells her "Yeah this one time, an autopsy. . .".

Reminds me of a court case where a doctor was brought in to do an autopsy on a victim, and the lawyer during cross examination asked “can you confirm that he was dead when you performed the autopsy?” And all the doctor had to say was “well if he wasnt, he sure was by the time i was finished”

Well, House is a genius, if it was written accurately number one House is prolly the only doctor who could do it solo. If they wanted to make him an omnipotent doctor who solves case it’d be like the justice league (or the new one anyways) where supes solos. But then we don’t have a story do we? And ofc it’s why med students should not take this show seriously (though it is an interesting exercise to point out the flaws in the show and the differential diagnoses as a med student).

I think that the Omar Epps (Foreman) and probably Hugh Laurie(House) got a script that they notice the bleeding and come to the conclusion that he might still be alive and rush to get him fixed up. While the director gave the guy lying down instruction to wake up and start screaming, getting a legitimate reaction from the both of them cause those reactions are hilarious, they look pretty legit.

I think House just used mints as an example without actually using mints. He could've said sugar pills or something else to indicate that he wasn't really giving him real medicine. However, in real life, doctors don't give you sugar pills or some sort of placebo pill. If you are prescribed X drug, then you are getting X drug. The only time placebo pills are used are during a case study, where the volunteers are informed that the medication/drug they receive may or may not be a placebo.

How odd, this actually happened to me as well.... kind of. I had been doing some "extreme" sports for a few years and I started to notice I was having a hard time catching my breath doing high level cardio. I went to the doctor and he ran nearly every single test he could think of on me. All negative. 9 months later my toes go numb while in the shower. Then slowly crawls up to my stomach and within 10 minutes I was paralysed from the belly button down. I was rushed to the hospital to have emergency surgery. My aorta had dissected in two places(near the heart in the stomach). Most people die from this. I had a 9 hour surgery to save my life. Doctors actually never figured out what had happened. They all guessed Marfans but I have been tested for it at least 10 different times in my life and have always tested negative. I obviously didn't die but they never could pinpoint what happened. Same thing John Ritter died from as well as Alan Thicke, I think.

It turned out the males on his father's side have a rare disorder that causes growths in the brain. As the growth pressed on various nerve clusters, different areas of the body would feel pain or lose muscle control. Eventually it would paralyze them altogether, making the heartbeat very slow & difficult to detect. At that point, the patient appeared dead. The scary part is that his father, grandfather, etc. might have been buried alive because of it - this guy & his son were able to have the growths surgically removed.
