★ WATCH MY 6 YEAR GLOW UP IN THE GLOW UP DIARIES: bit.ly/37O0bX6 ☆ MY PODCAST: bit.ly/GlowUpDiariesGen I received a lot of concerned comments in my latest video about using pain and pleasure as a way to prevent overeating. Many of you misunderstood my video and assumed I have an eating disorder. I never had an eating disorder but I did have disordered eating which I have healed from (spoiler for the glow up diaries. sorry) There is a difference between an eating disorder and disordered eating. • Eating disorder: mental illness • Disordered eating: bad eating habits I was trying to show you a way to fix a bad eating habit - overeating. I want to be very clear of the ultimate message that I will continue to spread on my platforms: Yes you should eat healthy. But don’t see it as “I’ll eat totally clean for one month, I won’t eat eat any sweets or pizza and when I have my dream body I will eat whatever I want again. See it as a From now, I’ll live healthy and happy. I try to eat clean and workout as much as possible, but I’ll be allowed to eat things like pizza and cake, too because I want a healthy life, not a healthy a month. The key to sustainability is balance, good habits and self love. Self love and self care isn't only about saying kind things to yourself..it's also addressing your problematic thoughts and behaviors, holding yourself accountable for what you do and say. (I learned this the hard way and you will see that in the glow up diaries so I'm very passionate about this message.) I do think I should’ve shown a different clip rather than showing chicken and beans on the plate. I put a disclaimer at the bottom saying the plate of food is not an example of what to eat. I’m just trying to show that you can use pain and pleasure to not eat the entire bag of cookies. Enjoy 1 cookie and be done with it. I’m sorry if anyone with an eating disorder found the video triggering..I will be much more mindful in the future. (Also I was just trying to paint a general picture in the first 20 seconds of the video of someone who ate a lot of junk food and realized they can’t fit into their pants anymore so they try to start exercising but end up eating more junk food at night. And I did this to answer the question of why someone keeps resorting back to junk food even though they have another goal in mind.)

Procrastination is one of my biggest problem that trigger my depression.. Sometimes at the middle of the night, I just can't sleep thinking about all the things I've failed because of procrastination and hating myself for doing so.. When I heard that on BoJack I literally had to pause it to cry. I was at such a low point and I been struggling to turn it around. Hearing those words made something click- I could be everything I ever wanted if I didn’t let myself get in my way. If I want something so badly for myself why would I let the physical and mental discomfort and difficulty I feel in the moment stop me? It’s never going to get easier if you quit before you’ve truly begun. It will get easier if you at least try your hardest every day. I repeat that quote to myself over and over any time I feel myself wanted to choose what is easy rather than what is right

I really like this. "Everything that has value in life comes from consistency; success, wealth, relationships, health and all other aspirations. But consistency doesn't mean perfection. Consistency is winning majority of the time, so for the time you fall, learn to get back on track and get used to it because there will be time when you make mistakes and that's okay. The secret is to learn to forgive yourself and try again." Thank you, Alivia.

Although I 100 percent agree with what you said, I wish I could 100 percent believe in that. Last year I made a huge mistake and faced its consequences for a long time. Everyone told me to forgive myself and move on (this part was extremely hard for me but I think I the end I did manage to do it, probably because I was merely 14 at the time ) I became happy again but then at age 16 (this year) I made that exact same mistake again, and now I'm feeling miserable again,I wish I could change that. At this point I'm not sure if I'll ever change, it's like I have no control over my life. But life must continue and I must cling to hope (but I'm not sure if I'll be able to forgive myself now,and that's the worst part) I hope this year adds more joy to our life. Edit: turns out I didn't repeat my mistake gshhsheshbsdb ahhhhh I'm so proud of myself!!!

Me: *sad* KZbin: *recommends memes* Me: *mad* KZbin: *recommends calm Lofi music* Me: *insecure about myself* KZbin: *recommends this video* I just wanna thank KZbin I- edit : I'm probably at my lowest point in my life so far. Procrastination has become a habit, and it's ruining me tbh. I've never felt so unmotivated and disappointed in myself with the horrible consequences that I gained to the extent where I've had thoughts of unaliving myself. Seeing my comment two years ago in this video felt so unreal, I would watch this often because Alivia motivated me. Watching this video again made me remember the times where I was still very productive and looked pretty confident with my future, but here we are somehow still alive in my current state. I just had a breakdown a few minutes ago due to some personal problems, I didn't know why but I felt the need to open yt and it recommended me this again. Yes, it's creepy, but I'm still thankful anyways. Big thanks to Alivia and to the algorithm 2 years ago for making me feel like I was making a big change in my life for stepping up, I was 13. Where it started was like an eye of a tornado, the calm before the storm. I hope this video would shine me a little hope that I could still be who I was before, but with an upgrade hopefully, I really really *really* hope so.

there is a massive food waste problem, we shouldn’t be encouraging people to waste food but just simply eat smaller portion sizes, I use smaller plates for the illusion of more food, but am still full at the end, just not overeating. I think strategically leaving food on your plate leans more to a restrictive mindset, making it more likely that you’ll not stick to it

It’s not wasting food, it’s actually saving food. Because you can put it in the fridge and have it the next day. So instead of making another snack/lunch, you already have one! And you’re not wasting food by making a new meal. It would be wasting food more to eat all of it if you’re full but eat it because “I don’t wanna waste it” (but that is literally wasting it)

My brother has always been not fat/fit. I’ve noticed that instead of “taking little bites to make it seem like you’re eating a lot” he would just shove 5 chips in his mouth and be done with it. I started doing this, and I realized it works!!!! For me, I crave the TASTE. Taking little bites, you can’t even taste the food. If you shove it all in ONE TIME you get an OVERLOAD OF FLAVOR!!! Put the bag back and RUN AWAY LOL

It actually works differently for me! If I eat a lot at once, the flavor is gone so quick that I miss it and just go for more. I don’t take tiny bites either though, instead I (usually) make sure to eat a meal or have a meal prepared for myself, then afterwards I don’t try and curb hunger with a craving! Sometimes the craving was just because I was hungry and lacked nutrients, and afterwards I don’t even want it.

I started dancing for hour and hours everyday for years. I'm now in show choir and one of their best performers even with no professional experience. If you become passionate with a hobbie, make it your escape from reality. Instead of making a poor decision, do that something you love. You won't regret it, trust me.

ALAS!!! Powerful candy 🍭🍡 It's scientifically proven that sugar addiction isn't that different than drug addiction, especially because it's difficult developing a healthy mindset after being so used to sugar overconsumption :0 a piece of candy definitely has a lot of power in this case! It's just the way one looks at it (especially when one has associated sugar with relief, joy, and satisfaction for so long). Boy I wrote a lot LOL 🌻

There's a lot of negative comments here saying she's perpetuating thinspo culture and what she's doing isn't healthy. Personally, I disagree with that sentiment. There was such a movement towards awareness of weight loss-oriented eating disorders in the early 2000's that I think that we've swung too far in the other direction with the body positivity and view any radical efforts to control one's weight and eating habits as inherently unhealthy. 1 in 3 Americans are overweight or obese and I come from a family of overweight or obese people, where overeating is completely normalized. I can't just "let my body eat how it wants to" because my body inherently wants to overdo it, so I've taken radical action in learning to control my eating and exercise habits, and the moment I did I was called unhealthy. Yes it was hard, and yes it was stressful, and yes my family didn't always support it, but you know what? I would rather have that stress and be going to the gym everyday, eating my vegetables, and eating the right amount of calories for my needs than just letting go of the hard work and discipline to eat loads of junk food everyday because I FEEL BETTER PHYSICALLY. Maybe what she's doing right now isn't sustainable, but she's just started this journey and learning to find balance and what strategies work for her personally are part of the process and I don't think she should be shamed for that.

These are all reallllllly maladaptive coping mechanisms to apply to any area of your life (hello all other anxiety and depression sufferers - Im sure you recognize the thought processes in play here) and even worse when directly linked to food like this (Those struggling with Eating Disorders may also recognize these thought patterns with their relationships to their bodies and food in a way that triggers and reinforces beliefs that can take a lifetime to change - I'm so sorry if anyone watched this before seeing a warning comment

@Juliette Ray Juliette, no. As a healthcare professional working in this space - its alarming to see comments from young people and kids as young as 11 (11!!!!) saying how much they learnt from a video like this, when the habits, thought patterns and harmful beliefs in this video are what i work with people everyday to change and break out of. Kids and young adults watching this may not have the critical thinking skills to understand the depth of these theories and beliefs and take whats said as gospel - leading to a life of the cognitive distortions i mentioned in my original comment having an impact on so many more areas of their life than just body/weight loss issues in this video. I appreciate constructive criticism but please dont tell people to "just shut up" when what they are saying may help someone as it adds nothing constructive to the conversation. If you really dont like what i said you may want to consider why you had such a strong reaction to it so you may challenge your own beliefs and grow. All the best, B.

Bianca Oh I think you proved your own point. This video is meant to teach how to use what the brain is used to, aka pain and pleasure responses, and turn it towards your own gain. That isn’t to say it can’t be harmful, for example I know that when I’m in a depressive episode I’ll think things like “Why do I eat so much, I’m worthless, everything I do is doomed to fail, I’m fucking everything up.” But this video does the opposite, forces failure into a normal behavior and movable obstacle, and the only failure is stopping progress. This is a method I’ve been taught in therapy as well as discussed with my mother who is a licensed mental health professional with her own practice. It isn’t bad to use this, but like everything it can be misused. It’s best to consult a doctor always, and Alivia never discouraged that. She never claimed that she was a doctor. I understand your worry for children, but the job to take care of children lies solely on the shoulders of parents, not creators and entertainers. You can’t expect disclaimers from everyone. Personally, I think that this method is very useful for people that aren’t ready to change their mind’s function and instead can only change their mindset. If your brain function cannot be altered to work for you, then you can use the way it functions and change what feels good. That’s what this video is about.

Alivia, stay safe: 1) Regardless of your current mental and physical state, I strongly suggest you to talk to a therapist, because I think you are dragging around a bunch of issues that will come out to haunt you in a few years. 2) If you accurately studied psychology, you know that you can't really rely on connections to pleasure and pain if you're looking for mental stability, because in 80% of the cases you won't be able to control them in your every day life. If you give them THAT kind of power, the moment something happens that wasn't the way you planned, you will be trapped. I defended you in the comment section of your last video, because I respect you and your flexibility routines have actually helped me a lot, but now I'm definitely worried.

@@naomiz5099 For the pleasure-pain dynamic? Sadly, there's no universal solution to this kind of problem, if you too are struggling with binge eating. It's a really difficult habit to get rid of , because is in fact an addiction, but the substance you are addicted to is literally fundamental in order to stay alive and healthy. Some people got through it thanks to intermitted fasting (following the directions of a nutritionist of course), others just found balance by reducing stress and adopting an healthy but flexible lifestyle, that allowed them to keep eating what they want, but in a controlled schedule. The thing that I really want to point out, though, is that you can't expect to find a standardized and ultimate solution. Something will work and help you, let's say, for years. Then something will change (your metabolism, your work schedule, your body/health) and you have to keep a flexible mind to adapt to life. What Alivia says is not wrong, but she's too young to know that is not right either.

What works for me is focusing on being present and going out of my way to do stuff i don't want to but I was wondering if there was a better strategy as I can get tired of it on days where i work long hours, etc Edit: I also know it's unfair to expect to do well at all times and just being aware of your behavior is enough sometimes. I love that you mention linking something with something else. Like when you mentioned running made you feel happy instead of cookies. Many people fall into the trap of eating og laying down when they're sad. Some of the people who seem like they have their life together actually do the same, but they run instead because that's how they make themselves feel better. Linking, people. It works. It worked for me too. Thank you Alicia. Stay strong, not for us, but yourself!

this is a similar situation to me. I don't live in India, i enjoy running but i feel super self conscious. recently, there have been murders/grabbings of women near my area. when my parents heard, i had to stop going out for a run. so now i try to either wake up early (i wake at 5am to try avoid my family whilst working out bc i feel embarrassed) to do a short workout. depends on what i feel like. and to compensate me not running, I'm going to try ask my parents for a skipping rope and jump rope 1000 times a day. it looks entertaining, you can do it in your/back garden AND listen to music without people staring at you. on top of this, i'm trying to eat healthier! it sounds like a mouthful, but when i put my head to it, it's started to become of a habit of me waking at 5am and cooking healthy breakfasts. i started a week ago and it looks and feels like i haven't lost any weight, but I've actually lost 1kg, 1 inch off my waist and stomach area. sorry for the long comment

I don't know if this will help anyone else but this helps me: When i want to procrastinate or avoid doing something, the way i overcome it is by romanticising the situation. Taking the "bad" thing and putting it in a dream situation makes it feel like it's something i want to do since it's associated with this dream land! For example, if i have a school project that i haven't started, i then imagine that I'm doing that project in my own movie and that I'm doing it with my crush or a celebrity i like. This then gives it a positive context which makes me get it finished, even if i am imagining the entire movie plot that will come after it 👀😊

When i first found your series, i was truly inspired by you. compared to other youtube glow up videos that are actually more like a quick makeover, you honestly tried to turn your whole life around, you wanted to glow up in all aspects of life (hair, acne, body, clothing, eating habbits,..) Of course, this is YOUR journey, so i dont want to criticize or anything. but now this series actually only revolves around weight and food. and to ME to an excessiv amount. i think the thing is to ME, that at the beginning of your series, i could really relate to you but now i am honestly shook how much importance you give little things such as chocolate bar. Everything seems to be about what/what not to eat and how doing this/ that will effect your body. it seems obsessiv to me and honestly not healthy.. Weight loss takes time, pounds that you build up within years, wont go away within 2 weeks. but arent you already doing all the right things? you did change your eating habbits overall, you are working out. your are already down the right part!!!

Alivia, I love you, but I just want you to know I really think you struggle with either EDNOS or compulsive exercise. I just mean that you struggle with binging and then purging through exercising. Luckily you seem super smart and motivated to be healthy and I'm sure you'll be OK! I know what it's like to be addicted to exercise, I'm actually currently recovering from a knee strain injury I got by over training and not having rest days.actually, I didn't have a complete rest day with no exercise for 6 yrs, I don't know how I made it this long without a serious injury. I feel like if you can research and understand more about EDNOS and compulsive exercise, you may find it helps reduce your desire to binge as u will understand even more how it has an emotional trigger. No disrespect intended, I think you're beautiful and amazing and so so strong! Love your videos, keep on inspiring and look after yourself! Xxx

@@madisonmaisonet9931 I agree with you that she is trying to be healthy, and I understand she trains so hard coz she's a professional level dancer, but honestly I still think she has an unhealthy relationship with exercise in some ways. I was training 3 times a day, totaling more than 10hrs per week, because I was training myself to dance professionally in one of my music videos soon, but despite my healthy, valid reasons for exercising, I was exercising compulsively and it was too much for my body and I got injured. I don't want Alivia to wait until she is injured to see that she uses excessive exercise to cope with stress and lose weight from binging. I think she sets amazing goals and I'm sure she'll achieve them, I just want her to know we all love her and to just go a bit easier on herself.
