They complement Aliya a fair amount, but you can certainly tell they don't want the audience to look at her as a role model. They make her play more of the "villain" role because of the comment, but despite Alexander's comment, Alexandrov still chose to be her personal coach. He could have left if she was really a diva. She always seems rather nice in all her interviews. She was always calm and never had the diva attitude that the fluff showed her as imo.

I heard nothing but respect for the Russians and the Chinese at the last two olympics.

I don't know why people detest Tim and Elfi so much. Sure, they can say some off-color remarks (this year's American Cup notably...) but it's not like they are drooling over every American athlete. If ANY gymnast, makes a mistake, they point it out. I actually like them more than the annoying BBC commentators who completely ignore a pretty obvious mistake. Tim and Elfi know what they're talking about and they don't hesitate to say something is good when it is. Just watch this video.

Tim and Elfie did say a lot of nice things about her, unless you just skipped to the parts where she made mistakes so you could complain about NBC. Yes, he pointed out mistakes. That's common. He had some other things to say that weren't just gushing about Aliya, but I didn't hear anything so offensive everyone's so upset about.

I had to watch a TON of gymnastics to see what I do now.

@gemclumsyninja13 жыл бұрын
@96horseluvr i agree with you on the front that the commentators do tell us what's happening, and make it more valuable. i don't think there's anyone prepared to dispute how useful it is. they have great stuff to say. i think for most of us the problem is what they don't necessarily say, but what they imply. or rather, all the extra little things they add-like when Tim picked on Rebecca bross's expression, or don't add as much praise more certain gymnasts performing the same skills as americans.

I don't see why people hate the NBC commentators so much. I agree that Tim and Elfi can be pretty negative sometimes but part of what commentators are supposedto do is help people understand the sport - so when Tim points out something a gymnast did wrong that someone less familiar with the sport might not notice, they'll understand where the deductions come from instead of being confused or angry or thinking it's not fair.

Weiber's were just C+C+C. (L-turn, Johnson, swicth leg jump) With the dance elements alone, Mustafina was 0.4 higher in SV weiber's routine only started with a 6.2 SV. On at least one occasion, they just completely made something up and said, "Aliya said this." I wouldn't put it past them to have done it to many gymnasts in the past as well. It's not the pointing out of mistakes that people hate, it's the drama act. I understand they have to get ratings, but some of the things they say are ridiculous and insulting.
