They complement Aliya a fair amount, but you can certainly tell they don't want the audience to look at her as a role model. They make her play more of the "villain" role because of the comment, but despite Alexander's comment, Alexandrov still chose to be her personal coach. He could have left if she was really a diva. She always seems rather nice in all her interviews. She was always calm and never had the diva attitude that the fluff showed her as imo.

Why all the hate towards Tim and Elfie? They know more about gymnastics and are only as critical as any judge would be. They are not biased towards the Americans, if you've watched past Olympics, they LOVE Svetlana Khorkina, they adore the Russian style and always give praise where it is earned. I heard nothing but respect for the Russians and the Chinese at the last two olympics.

they have been heard insulting the gymnasts and making over-sexualized comments. One time Tim was talking abt a girls choreography and he said "To all the dads, shes 16". Elfi also insulted a russian girl back in 2003 saying "I was kinda bummed when I saw her on the podium. I never knew Russia would put someone with such little talent on the team". At the 2012 olympics, they were prying on Mustafina playing it safe, implying she should have done the vault that injured her the year before.

She is so perfect. She makes balance checks look elegant. I would rather watch her imperfect beam routine than a shitty American routine. I wonder why she doesn't do a combination dismount anymore. That would add an extra tenth to her D-score, even with just a double tuck D dismount.

I don't know why people detest Tim and Elfi so much. Sure, they can say some off-color remarks (this year's American Cup notably...) but it's not like they are drooling over every American athlete. If ANY gymnast, makes a mistake, they point it out. I actually like them more than the annoying BBC commentators who completely ignore a pretty obvious mistake. Tim and Elfi know what they're talking about and they don't hesitate to say something is good when it is. Just watch this video.

I really think it's funny how on this video everyone's commenting about biased commentators. Tim and Elfie did say a lot of nice things about her, unless you just skipped to the parts where she made mistakes so you could complain about NBC. Yes, he pointed out mistakes. That's common. He had some other things to say that weren't just gushing about Aliya, but I didn't hear anything so offensive everyone's so upset about.

@nicklex01 I think he points out the flaws for people like me who are simply spectators and couldn't do a split leap with springs on our feet are amazed by what they can do. When I first started watching gymnastics I couldn't tell a Miller from a Yurchenko. Several years later I can tell stuff apart and recognize flaws and see form breaks, lack of hand stands, chests that are too low non full rotations etc but in the beginning... no clue. I had to watch a TON of gymnastics to see what I do now.

@tmwalkerm OMG FINALLY SOMEONE AGREES WITH ME!!!! they're pointing out stuff to the audience, and reacting to a mistake. that tells the audience the issue. when they see a low score, they're curious to know why. and that's what the commentators are there for.
@gemclumsyninja
@gemclumsyninja 13 жыл бұрын
@96horseluvr i agree with you on the front that the commentators do tell us what's happening, and make it more valuable. i don't think there's anyone prepared to dispute how useful it is. they have great stuff to say. i think for most of us the problem is what they don't necessarily say, but what they imply. or rather, all the extra little things they add-like when Tim picked on Rebecca bross's expression, or don't add as much praise more certain gymnasts performing the same skills as americans.

I don't see why people hate the NBC commentators so much. I agree that Tim and Elfi can be pretty negative sometimes but part of what commentators are supposedto do is help people understand the sport - so when Tim points out something a gymnast did wrong that someone less familiar with the sport might not notice, they'll understand where the deductions come from instead of being confused or angry or thinking it's not fair.

If he did, it was because Al mentioned it, but even when Al did at the Team Finals on UB Tim said that Alexandrov has seen maturity from. Al is much worse. He's much more of a snob and her attitude is all he talks about.

I hate to tell you all this but if you hate listening to Tim Daggett then no offense then stop listening. Tim and Elfi have been where these athletes have been; they actually know of what they're talking about. SO if you don't like what they're saying, then stop watching the NBC stuff. They're not USA Biased cause if you watch what they said of Andrea Raducan (back in the 2000 AA, and watch her FX clip) they praise what they like.

No. Her routine was not over scored at all. Her start value were 6.9. which means her execution was just a 7.933. 7.933 is what other gymnasts would get WITH A FALL. Her dismount itself was 0.3 higher than weiber's. 0.2 CV + an F element (triple twist). Also, Mustafina's dance elements were D+D+E (double turn, switch with half turn, switch ring). Weiber's were just C+C+C. (L-turn, Johnson, swicth leg jump) With the dance elements alone, Mustafina was 0.4 higher in SV weiber's routine only started with a 6.2 SV. Even with a bad dismount, overtime, and a wobble,an execution of 7.933 WAS NOT over scored AT ALL.

Tim and Elfi have repeatedly and blatantly misquoted and taken out of context at the very least this gymnast. On at least one occasion, they just completely made something up and said, "Aliya said this." I wouldn't put it past them to have done it to many gymnasts in the past as well. It's not the pointing out of mistakes that people hate, it's the drama act. I understand they have to get ratings, but some of the things they say are ridiculous and insulting.
