Oh god I forgot this is the one where PC started throwing in the random Scottish stuff. And basically wrote herself into it. She basically wrote Sgiach as herself and Seoras is her boyfriend she met in Scotland, also named Seoras. Apparently her book publisher hired him as her guide while she was in Scotland. He wore kilts all the time, gave her a heart shaped rock to prove his love, and is apparently the head of Clan Wallace, as in William Wallace. So yes, she wrote her boyfriend in. And apparently they were supposed to have a Cayman Island wedding, but idk what happened between the two of them. I know it didn’t last, she never posts about him and she even kills off his character. Yes, I know way too much of the background drama behind this series. Just wait for when a person she’s PC for defamation of a character with her name.

Like with books if you don’t specify a date, the general assumption is that the book takes place during the year it is published. But she kept shoving every single pop culture reference she could into it with no regards to the logic of it. Like finding the FBI number in the phone book, and then a few books later they all have iPhones and are like “oh my Nyx did you see what’s on Twitter?”

@@Link-dx1lx oh let’s see. For starters, although Kristen Cast is listed as an author she was essentially a front line editor. PC would write a chapter and send it to Kristen to “teeenify” it. So she’s the one to blame for the poopie and stupid words like gihugic. She would also advise PC on what to remove, such as a sex scene between Neferet and the White Bull in a later book. The two of them also have a habit of attacking people who are mad about Zoey having multiple boyfriends, saying that they would praise a man who has multiple girls. But what they don’t get is that people aren’t mad about the polyamory but about the fact that the guys are in a polyamorous relationship without their knowledge or consent. This isn’t the only time they have attacked people, they’ve sent their fans to harass the producer who bought the original media rights and now have them constantly bothering streaming companies to get them to make a show. PC also got in an argument with a mother who commented on her blog that she wouldn’t let her daughter read her books since she uses the r slur. And then she wrote the whole exchange into one of the later books just to rub it in and be like “look at me, I’m so mature and smart and you’re all dumb for being mad over this”. As for the character defamation suit, PC uses the names of multiple students as character in her story. One of which is Erin Bates, who was her student and later became her assistant. There was some falling out between the two, and in later books Erin becomes an evil person who likes to have sex and is later killed. The real Erin filed a lawsuit to sue PC for defamation since this occurred right after the falling out and was clearly a way for PC to attack her in her story. It was later dismissed. And honestly, this is just the HoN drama. There’s even more with her other series including blackface, ableism and the worst representation of a trans character I have ever read.

I have a severe phobia of flying too (I'm sorry to all the people who've had to share a plane with me and hear me cry and throw up). One thing that helped me tremendously was booking the seat at the back, where the flight attendants are. I tell them I have a phobia and they're usually very understanding and comforting (one once held my hand during the landing 😭😭). I'll always remember this one time, I had taken meds to force myself to sleep and I did doze off. The plane shook and I shook awake in a frantic panic, only to look across the aisle and see the flight attendant calmly reading a magazine and eating a muffin 😂 I hope this helps you somehow!

I would also highly recommend sitting right in the middle of the plane where the wings are. That is the most stable part of the plane the turbulence is felt significantly a lot less there. I now always book seats there because my fear of flying has me shaking at the slightest bump.

Plus I’m pretty sure anyone subscribed to you will just be happy for you! I just bought my own home and even though I had a steady place to live while setting everything up it was still so dang stressful and now I have an hour and a half commute so that I could actually afford the area 😩. rlly sorry to hear about your fear of flying! hope the flight was bearable ❤ I randomly developed this phobia two years ago (developing phobias later on in life without a traumatic event triggering them is one of the psychological phenomena ever for sure..), so I feel for you. I’m sure you’ve looked into this loads, but the methods that helped me the most were trying to gaslit my brain into thinking the panic was actually excitement (sounds delusional, but genuinely works for a lot of people) and the one where u constantly force yourself to imagine what you’re gonna do once the flight is over, which apparently makes u subconsciously believe you’ll live? honestly popping an anxiety med is still the best solution, but even they dont help 100%, especially, I feel, for people with adhd, who already have insanely overactive nervous systems. it helped me a bit to understand what the root of my fear was as well, the whole time I figured it was just fear of death in a fun new costume, which is usually true, but recently I realised it wasn’t even the fact I’ll die at all, but the fact that it would take ages for it to happen, like between the realisation and the crash. TMI for some, I’m sure, but if you (or anyone else) reads it, I hope u found the advice helpful or at least feel a sense of solidarity. horribly unfair how u can be the most rational mf alive and still fall into these things, but we stay silly.

I'd never even heard of this series before watching all these reviews, but it's been living rent free in my head for months. I think it's because it would be so _easy_ to make just a few small changes that would massively improve the story as a whole. Maybe it's just because it's my favourite trope to write, but I live for degenerative magical curses and I think it would help improve Zoey so much; the more her power grows and the more affinities she's given, the more it affects her as she struggles to contain it. Like magical radiation sickness, where she withers away the more power she's exposed to. Or maybe it corrupts her physically - because of Nyx she's so powerful her body literally can't channel it all the way it should so it destroys her piece by piece. Just, anything to stop her from being such an all powerful Mary Sue. Dump the boy drama. Stick with Heath because he seems like the nicest one of them all, and being her childhood sweetheart gives him a lot more reason to be devoted to her. Also adds a lot more weight to his death, as long as it actually affects Zoey going forward. Nyx should have been a mostly absent goddess, who only offers hints when Zoey prays to her. Still stupid, but less stupid than a goddess being Zoey's live-in game guide. I also think Zoey should have been fated to reject the change. There could be some nonsense deus ex machina that saves her in the end, I don't care, but I think she should have been under the impression she was going to die. Maybe Aphrodite has a vision of it and goes to tell Zoey, even though they didn't like each other, because she's a good person deep down and thinks she ought to know; understandably Zoey freaks out, and at first hates her even more for telling her something so personal and upsetting. It would help with the weirdly fast pace of the book and how much her friends baby her, since they're aware she's going to die.

Hi, a hungarian here! And I'm giving you a little folklore for you! First of all: I'm not expert or anything, I'm not studying mythology, I just really enjoy reading about our folklore, and writing urban fantasy with hungarian myths and tales within it. So there is a pretty big chance other culture has a this thing as well, but I only familiar with ours, so... please forgive if I wrong. And my grammar to. Okay, I getting to the point: We have shamans and táltos. I use a hungarian word for it, because its a two different kind. Shaman studying the magic, learning it, tbut a táltos born with it. And a táltos way more powerful than a shaman. Aso there is a thing, why I'm typing this to you. Every now and then a táltos transform into a bull! And this form they fight with other creature or bad spirit, or other táltos in bull form! As a Scottish person who read all these books when I was a teenager, I think I repressed the random Scottish trip they take and shite way PC wrote about us. Skye isn't even a totally cut off island ffs, it's connected to the mainland by a bridge. You can walk there if you want to, it's that accessible!

I love this series and I've not died! I'm still here 😂 Can I make a suggestion? I looked up this series online and THE SHEER AMOUNT of badly made photo manipulation "art" of these characters! Some of them are just ridiculous. The lead RavenMocker? They basically just make him look like Shadow the hedgehog and Anakin Skywalker had a child and slap some wings on him. Absolutely not like how he's described in the book! And the AMOUNT of emo swoops and skinny jeans 😅 I WOULD die if you looked up some of these photomanips and AI art and enlighten us with your witty wit!!! 🙏

I really hope you also cover the 4 spin offs. I’m currently reading „Loved“ and surprisingly Nxy has some selfreflection and admits,that she should‘ve had done something about Neferet. Then, she gifts Aphrodite her vampyrism back and the power to give people 2nd chances through gifting them humanity ONLY for her vampyrism to disappear a bit, everytime Aphrodite does so . I literally can’t take the Cast duo serious anymore and feel personally attacked.

Seriously, my 14 year old me is so pissed. The books are a constant series of punishing Aphrodite (the real mc) and now, she has her vampyrism back, only for it to dissapear one day. WHAT‘s THE POINT. Nyx is still about to „test“ Aphrodite‘s true nature, although it couldn’t be more clear, that she’s the best person out of all of them.

And it‘s going to get better; so Nyx asks Aphrodite if these Zombie red fledglings deserving of a 2nd chance (A says yes) and if Aphrodite‘s mother, too (A says no) and Nyx is so pleased with Aphrodite’s answer , that Nyx says : „ Don’t worry, I‘ll give them their humanity back , so it won’t suck your vampyrism out of your body“ … THEN WHAT IS THE FCKN POINT TO GIVE APHRODITE THE POWER??????
