Immigration is a key issue in the U.S. presidential election with Republican candidates trying to demonstrate their tough stance on undocumented immigrants.
Meanwhile, under the Obama administration, the detention and deportation of immigrants has reached an all-time high. Each day, the U.S. government detains more than 33,000 non-citizens at a cost of $5.5 million per day.
The result is a lot of money for the powerful private prison industry, which spends millions of dollars on lobbying and now operates nearly half of the country's immigration detention centers.
Fault Lines travels to Texas and Florida to investigate the business of immigrant detention and to find out how a handful of companies help to shape U.S. immigration laws.

Alex Jackson ... Ice agents should be treating ALL these human beings on a case by case basis. There are definitely some people who SHOULD be deported though. Eg- Known gang members. But that kid paid his debt to society and became a productive member of society. Ice would never of released him if they believed otherwise, true?

Actually domestic violence can be used for an asylum or refugee status if it can be proven that the government of your home country is systematically neglecting to protect you. For example many countries laws or social climates do not protect spouses and children from domestic violence. It's classified as social class persecution and has resulted in many, many cases of asylum and refuge in the United States. You"ll note that the woman in the video mentions the Mexican government wasn't intervening. This is where her case lies.

well it pertain to countries when women rights are problematic issues like afghanistan or other arab states based on gender unequality...the country when human rights are not officially secured and you can be dscriminated based on race,gender,ethnicity,religion or political views -mexico doesnt fall in this category at all -unefficient police is not a reason for asylum neither on UN list of countries where they ae eligible for asylum -"officially" women and men rights are equal in mexico they same like religious or political freedom at least officially..

@racchh_xx

Eh the guy who said he was living in fear hadn't done anything. He had been brought up in the US from a young child, by his parents. As had the others campaigning with him. They didn't choose 2 b brought 2 the US as kids. So they've done absolutely nothing wrong. Except 4 not wanna be returned 2 a country that they likely don't remember. And have been brought up in the US, thru no decision off there's. So are not living in fear cos of anythin they've done.
