Across the U.S. restaurant workers are taking to the streets with increasing frequency to demand unpaid wages from their employers. Two-thirds of low wage workers report some form of wage theft every week-whether that means being cheated out of hours worked, paid less than the minimum wage or not being paid at all.
One study estimates that low wage workers-over 30 million Americans-lose 15% of their income each year, the restaurant industry being one of the worst offenders. According to the Department of Labor, 84 percent of sit-down restaurants inspected in the last three years were in violation of wage laws.
Meanwhile, in Washington, the food services industry is an organized and powerful opponent against increased minimum wage and workplace protections, spending millions of dollars each year to lobby against regulations and increased wages.
Fault Lines travels to Miami, Chicago, and Washington D.C. to speak with restaurant workers, hear their grievances and find out what recourse they have when they are not paid what they are owed.

Simmons , " If the defendant does not have any money, you can have a judgement against that person but you cannot send them to jail because they can't pay their debts or don't pay their debts." Meanwhile men out there are forced to pay child support or they will go to jail. If the money stops flowing you go to jail. So the laws are definitely screwed up in this country.

Because, he's a exploit-ist. He believes in exploiting the majority of others to get ahead yourself if you can. Doesn't matter if your already ahead, if you can get ahead more at the cost to others, why that's just good business, you know...kind of how dictatorships, communists and all greedy F*s all over the world see it. Just that our exploited get A/C (if you can afford it) and TV/ entertainment streaming, so we need to quit our bitching...you know.

Rents and utilities are too much for income. Retirement SS COLA has been stolen by Medicare. I know I can move to a cheaper country, but how come we cannot have rent and utilities control based on a % of income? I worked from 7-70,travelled on vacations snd retirement from 20-72. I never beg for money, but retirement income should not take 75% for rent and utilities.

Good god, so much utilitarian and plastic fantastic architecture in the US. Seems like the closest thing to art and aesthetics are the copies of European buildings in Las Vegas. It's very depressing.

The myth that drives the corporate world-it businesses and corporations have to follow any rules, the ones who suffer are the workers. It was a crock in 1879 and it's a crock now.

Jesus christ people, you're not helpless and u outnumber the scumbags. Violence is a great tool. If he wont pay w his wallet then make him pay somehow. If more people did that word would get around and others wd be less likely to scam workers
