I am watching this with so much disgust and anger. As someone who lived in plateau for 5years before I relocated. I can tell you first hand that these are attacks against Christians by Fulani herdsmen(who are Islamist) and it has been happening year in year out. No accountability whatsoever, government comes as usuals, “condemns” the attack, and after some days , they go about their normal business. A country were lives of its citizen is not valued is as good as gone. See the way innocent people were slaughtered and buried like chickens. I detest sometimes that I am a Nigerian because of the government. It’s really unfortunate and even the speakers here are romanticising this incident without calling out the failed government for failing to protect its citizens. It is very unfortunate and Until the world and the international community intervene, this would not stop!! Rest in peace to the dead

The Fulanis are behind ALL major massacres across agrarian communities in the country, especially Northern Nigeria. The Global Terrorism Index of 2018 ranked the Fulani Miyetti Allah is the world’s 4th deadliest terrorist organization. Unfortunately, the Nigerian security establishment is largely controlled by the Fulanis. Back when Buhari was president, a farmer that dared resist Fulanis from grazing on their farms may get arrested. There was a Fulani warlord called Wakili who terrorized the Ibarapa areas of Oyo State. He couldn’t be defeated by both the soldiers and the police. The OPC went in and caught him; brought him to town and handed him over to the police. Guess what? The 3 OPC boys that captured him were arrested and imprisoned by the Buhari’ government. There was a recent statement by Dele Alake that powerful Nigerians are behind insecurity and kidnapping. But, the government has refused to reveal the identities of those people or attempted to make arrests. If you look at the entire African continent today, you will see that the Fulanis remain the sole ethnic group that is vicious and are swift to shed blood. They have caused problems in Sudan, Mali, Chad, Central African Republic, Burkina Faso etc. They infiltrated Ghana and Benin Republic but were hotly resisted due to the fact that they lack powerful influences within the corridors of power in those two countries. Any community that gives the Fulanis a space shall live to regret it. They are not a group that lives in peace and harmony with other groups. It is really annoying though the western media like to describe the problem as climate related or resource control. NO! Fulanis have been killing people in what is now Nigeria since the colonial times. Go and read a 1911 book by Mockler-Ferryman titled “ British Nigeria: A geographical and historical description of the British possessions adjacent to the Niger River, West Africa.”.

Yes I support your comment, even the guy that was interviewed on the sick bed in hospital clearly proved they're after the Christian. His name is Christian Emmanuel. In the interview Al Jazeera did it was recorded that the attacks started on Saturday, Sunday, Monday n Tuesday. From weekend to Christmas Day n boxing day. On weekends about 48 hours, they attack the same hours, same minutes, n same second n you're telling me soldiers or security can't stay in the town with armed to protect the lives of the people. Look at people who are healthy just died suddenly even on Christmas day. How would this country be free from God anger when blood is been shed n lives that belongs to God is been killed every time n we think God is happy with such land or to such country. Once the villagers start arming themselves to defend themselves, you will see the soldiers and the police swing into swift action to disarm them. It has happened several times in the past. Sometimes, the army was informed days before the attacks, but they stayed away. Immediately after the attack, they will come to prevent the villagers from avenging the attack by arresting all the surviving young men and locking them up. All the villages that were displaced in the past have been re-settled with Fulani people and the government is preventing the people from returning to their ancestral land.

Thousands of Christians have died in Gaza and churches has been bombed. No Christmas was celebrated in Bethlehem this year because of what is happening in Gaza. Nigeria need to break up into not less than 7 countries or regions. We are not one and can never be. These guests speakers are economical with the truth. Everyday I pray my mum is not attacked on her farm. Sometimes the herdsmen wait a distance for her to leave her farm then they go in and eat her crops. There are grasses everywhere but they intentionally take their cows into the farm to eat the crops. Last week half of her grown beans (ready for harvest) were eaten. They are very brutal and kidnap people for ransom too. This is sad and heartbreaking. Buhari’s tenure was even worse as they openly brandished AK47 while disarming the villagers and warning them not to arm themselves. How is that fair? Children now carry sticks on their way to school to protect themselves! Most of the attacked villages are renamed and these Fulani herdsmen settle there. Most of the areas they have ransacked and renamed are today called “ungoverned areas” by the Nigerian government. This is intentional in my opinion 😞

For a country as populated, with numerous ethnic groups and diversified in many areas of life including in culture and religion ought to operate on an uncentralised government, this without been told is the logical system that will work for us Nigerians. We need an absolute level of State autonomy for the people and its government to make their system function efficiently. These are modern times and we are still using the colonial stucture, policy , strategy and interest in administration. The Youths have to rise up and fight for RESTRUCTURING of this Country. We would have rather fought for a Restructuring rather than for ENDSARS. A restructuring and a Fresh constitution must be the whole thing on our mind and nothing else.

The Fulani aren’t native to Nigeria and largely migrated there when their warriors defeated the Habe Kings of Hausa land. They occupied that territory and have been moving southwards using neighboring tribes to form regional alliances to suppress people in the south and using their British granted political control of Nigeria, they act with impunity. It is not only in Nigeria. They are playing a long game to create an Empire or better still connect all their captured states in one federation. The Arab world backs this same with the imperialists as the Fulani are not Pan African and have a war machine that can secure resources for extraction. The only major foreign power opposing them is Russia who has been helping different tribes in the region to fight these forces. No western power seems to oppose them, they have a special status for an African tribe within the Muslim community especially with the Saudis. Don’t fall for the lies and propaganda. Nigeria can only save itself from its enemies.

@@emekaosisi1288 Yes thanks for your contribution bro and l truly appreciate your contribution of this analysis. What do you feel is the way forward generally from this problems?
@David-io9lp9 ай бұрын
I agree with your analysis that the government must be completely restructured, however, I defer on what type of restructuring is needed. In my opinion, a Confederate system of government will not address any problems, and might well foster more separatist movements. The major problem facing our nation is corruption. This level of corruption seems to be endemic in most African societies because it finds fertile breeding ground: High levels of Uneducation. The facts show this to be the case, the countries with the lowest levels of corruption are also the ones with the highest levels of education. This is why I do not believe that any form of seperation(the different tribes going their own way) or decentralization will solve our problems. It will not solve the uneducation problem; and if it will not solve the uneducation problem, it will not solve the corruption problem; because it will not solve the corruption problem, we are not really going to make any real progress in terms of attaining a more responsible government. My suggestion might be considered a radical one, but I think it is worth discussing. We have to understand that the primary goal of most politicians is political survival. That is, the primary goal of most politicians is to gain power and then retain power. For any government that will work, it has to find a way to align these tendencies of politicians towards the right goal(which is nation building). The incentives have to be gotten right. The democracies of most western countries do a good job of this. The democracies in Africa and parts of Asia and South America do a terrible job of this. Politicians in this part of the world realize that there are many other ways to attain and retain power including, but not limited to, election rigging, bribery, coercion, appealing to religious or ethnic sentiments e.t.c. These practices are of course fostered by the uneducation problem. To prevent this from being such a long write-up, I will conclude. My proposal is a cross between a federal system and a centralized system. Each local government, for instance, must have a great deal of autonomy. Each local government must be, in effect, it's own state. The Local government chairman should be appointed by a centralized organization. This organization will be responsible for the appointment and assessment of each official put in a leadership post. Essentially, every politician should be assessed by certain metrics such as education improvement under their administration, infrastructure development, unemployment rate, GDP, standard of living, public opinion e.t.c. Based on these assessments, only those who have routinely done very well should be allowed to progress any further up the pyramid. I also advocate the 5/75/20 formula. After every term, the least performant 20% of leadership post holders are completely terminated. If your record at the local government level is poor, you have no chance of progressing to become a state governor or indeed become the president. With this system, only those who have passed through the local government level and performed very well, passed through the state government level and done very well, are qualified to run for presidency. I would also do away with the whole political party system and the campaigning system. Individuals, competent individuals, running for office, not groups. In short, make it very difficult for anyone or any group to bribe their way to the top. The idea is that whichever president gets elected into office, it must be someone that we are confident deserves to be there because his records speak for him/her. This system is not perfect, it's not full-proof, but then again, there's no system that is. I hate it when it's election year, and I take a look at the candidates I have to choose from, and I cannot see a single individual that is worth my vote. It's very painful and frustrating. The governmental system I advocate is a more meritocratic one.

This is not related to farming,it is 100% an ethno-religious conflict, yes the natives tend to be sedentary Christian farmers while the attackers are Muslim Fulani herdsmen who are nomadic hence they scout this communities,identify the vulnerable spots and then launch attacks. The natives are basically sitting ducks because the attackers get to decide when and where to attack, the attacks are plainly targeted at wiping out every living person in those communities and taking over. The attackers mobilize from the surrounding states, and then retreat back to those places after the attacks while using the herdsmen as scouts to report back about the aftermath of their attacks and to identify the next vulnerable communities.

In the case of Plataux State, the motivation of the unknown gunmen is grazing land (fertility/water). Policing can only work when the root causes are fearlessly discussed. Identify the problem and the solution could be found without using police or army. Land grab, land grab, land grab, guest are afraid to speak out. How can people be killed and people who claim to be working in peace institute and Armnesty international can not discussed the root cause of the persistent killings. Government can not investigate the matter because of legitimacy crisis. Rigging causes instability.

The truth is the Nigerian government and security architecture is infiltrated and is sympathetic to terrorism with massive corruption that embezzles anything that looks like solutions, financially, security and otherwise. If terror persists, there's some level of government participation. Anything investigation in Nigeria is perfected on media. It becomes another opportunity for corrupt political class to enrich themselves otherwise 2 decades is enough to create solution for a reoccurring dilemma. If the world cares, they should allow Nigeria elect credible leaders and not influence the emergence of recycled criminals in the name of interest and power play.

Why been politically correct, these attacks are by a Fulani Militia whose aim is to ethnically cleanse and then take possession of ancestral lands of the natives and they have gone ahead to rename some of these displaced settlements but analysts still find it hard to say it as it is! Also the Nigerian security architecture is no longer fit for purpose, policing should now be decentralised with state and even local government police that are well trained and armed at least a minimum of about 10k additional personel per the six geopolitical regions for starters anything short of these measures will fall short...and for goodness sake Plateau/ Middle belt citizens should also know that self preservation is one of the first laws of nature...there is the JTF in the North East, SW responded with Amotekun at some point, equally the South East toyed with Ebube agu in response to these marauding merchants of death. The Middle belt/ North central need to smell the cofee and take proactive steps to face these cowards attacking women, children, elderly etc in the middle of the night while their representatives at the NASS sponsor bills for state police ASAP, there is a general consensus this is needed but the urgency is now...a word is enough for the wise!

The most important factor in all this that is missing is the Facts. What are the facts of this situation? Who are the perpetrators? Where are they located? Why doesn’t the Plateau govt have some form of security apparatus? Why is Nigeria so slow to embrace drone technology to get on top of recurring security threats? Govts at Federal and State level run huge motorcades for their own safety. Yet invest nothing to secure its citizens.
@Peggyg1310 ай бұрын
It’s an ethnic issue. You have the Fulani Muslim herdsmen on one hand and you have the pacifist christian people on the receiving end. The Fulani militia like their savage janjaweed brethren in Sudan have a genocidial desire to ethnically cleanse the indigenous tribal peoples who are mostly Christians. The Fulani herdsmen want their land. They have been trying for decades to occupy and take over their lands. This is simply a continuation of the same process.
@abdullahiazozo603310 ай бұрын
"fulani muslim herders"? Are you telling us that there are no fulani christian herders or that muslim communities too do not experience attacks from herders? Do your research before giving a general overview of what you think you know about this issue. Most of the blame should go towards all leaders, especially the elected ones. The moment we start voting the right people from the councillorship through to the presidency is when we will really reap the benefits of a peaceful society. Imagine a majority of people voting for an incompetent man/woman just because of a subjective reason and expecting him/her to perform objectively. What do our governors do with their security votes? If a leader cannot secure his/her territory or at least try to do so, he/she should resign. That is why you have councillors, chairmen, assembly and reps members, senators and a president in that order. When you want to blame someone, pick one of these guys. They are not there to make excuses. They are even paid ostensibly to work. They were elected to among other things, to serve and protect everyone living within their boundaries. All governors are chief security officers of their respective states, so any state experiencing security challenges majorly has its governor to blame, especially the clueless ones. Have you ever heard a Nigerian governor or president resigning due to incompetence? Only death can resign them. Not even losing half of the people they claim to represent will push them to resign. Next time, when you want to blame someone, start with the delegates who voted subjectively, then those who during elections also vote subjectively, then blame the leaders who also act subjectively once they get elected.

Tragedy Unfolds: The Ongoing Cycle of Violence in Bokkus, Plateau State, Nigeria, and the Urgent Call for Accountability My heart is heavy for the people who lost their lives in the Bokkus region of Plateau State Nigeria on December 25, 2023. The brutality of the attacks, particularly the heartbreaking scenes of mothers and children being mercilessly killed in their own homes, is truly devastating. Infants left behind beside the lifeless bodies of their mothers, crying and traumatized, is a grim image that reflects the horrifying reality faced by innocent citizens. These atrocities have been occurring since 2001, and the lack of accountability is deeply troubling. The promises of the government to bring the perpetrators to justice seem empty and ineffective. The cycle of violence continues unabated, with no one being held responsible. The senseless killings and the impunity enjoyed by the culprits paint a grim picture of a nation where evil prevails, and the vulnerable pay the highest price. The recent incident on Christmas Day, a time when families should be celebrating, highlights the failure of the government to protect its citizens. It is disheartening that the impoverished, those striving to raise their families peacefully, are targeted without mercy. Nigeria, once a promising land, has become a breeding ground for violence and lawlessness. The recurring mass burials and the inability of those left behind to even grieve properly underscore the dire situation. The government, the military, and the police, all entrusted with the responsibility of safeguarding the people, should be held accountable for their failure. It is not a crime to be poor, to be at home with your family, or to be a Nigerian. The leadership's inability to address and curb this violence condemns innocent citizens to a life of fear, displacement, and death. The lack of justice allows the perpetrators to revel in their wickedness, reinforcing their belief that they can act with impunity. The cries of the victims and the spilled blood on the streets demand accountability, not just from the direct culprits but from every individual in a position of leadership and authority who has failed in their duty to protect the lives of the citizens they serve.
