This is actually their first release with this drummer, Atom Willard (who has drummed for bands like Against Me! and the Offspring, as well as being the original drummer for Angels and Airwaves), who joined earlier this year after their longtime drummer left after 23 years in order to take a break from the demands of constant touring. He was apparently a touring fill-in for them over 20 years ago as well, so he's known them for a while. Also, part of Matt's voice and face mismatch might have to do with him having to have two separate surgeries on his throat for acid reflux damage, which has severely changed his voice. He used to sound a lot more gritty, which definitely fit his facial expressions, but I think he's limited on how much he can push out now, so the expression shows his intend, even though he's physically limited. Though that last part is just a theory (he DID get the surgeries, just not sure whether the expression disconnect can be tied to them).

My recommendation is Stupid Kid; Warbrain; All on Black; Help Me; Torture Doctor; I, Pessimist; This Addiction; Throw Me to the Lions; and Pocket Knife. There are LOADS of great songs in their discography but I feel like this list will give a good range of Matt's voice and the band's sound throughout the years.

I think They were "Muted" In post. the entire song, especially the chorus, feels like it wants to be way louder than it is, for example, Matt's vocals, you can tell he's BELTING those notes in the chorus, but the volume doesn't change at all making it feel really fucking weird.

As far as accents & understanding them, alot of Americans have a hard time understanding me because i tend to talk fast & there's no gap between my words, it's just kind of one long run on sentence. Also, i'm American..... Anyway, pretty much every Alkaline Trio album is different from the one before it, my favorites are the first 5: self titled, "goddamnit!", "maybe i'll catch fire," "from here to infirmary," & "good mourning."

Alkaline Trio are such an underrated band, you guys should definitely give their albums a listen to. Matt and Dan are such great lyricist. Some personal favourites and recommendations to listen to are; All on Black, Continental, Broken Wing, Sadie, Burned is the house, Maybe I’ll catch fire, Every thug needs a lady, Armageddon, Burn. I could list more but I’ll let you guys give them a listen.

Big Alkaline Trio fan, and I love this track (The chorus is a deceptive earworm, it doesn't feel like it should be as stuck in my head as it has been), but I can completely see that this is not going to be a track that grabs new fans, it's very much more of the same that I think people who are already fans will appreciate. If I were to recommend tracks to get into them (I know you guys mentioned one, but I can't remember where you said so), then Mercy Me, Stupid kid, Time To Waste, I Wanna Be A Warhol and Cringe (especially if you want an early track) are all great ones to go for that are fairly well known amonst their discography.

as huge fan of the Trio, this track is a more of a solid foundation kinda song after the new album really opens with much more of a blast. i think the other two singles were much better choices to release and I really hope you'll both still give the full thing a go (i think Scars is becoming my favourite from the album (kzbin.info/www/bejne/kHuyYp9vaq9_d68), it's a bit more rock, has Dan in front and the vocal melodies are just bliss. my favourite album from them is Crimson and is a recommended jump on point from me. absolutely fell in love that album.

Radio is their closing song just like Dammit. This will give you a better perspective on how good they are. Matt is such an incredible lyricist and singer. He's the only reason I ever started appreciating lyrics in songs. I only used to listen to the instrumental. My top 3 recommendations by ALK3 are "Time To Waste", "Stupid Kid" and "This Could Be Love". But any song from the albums those three songs come from works. "Crimsom", "From Here To Infirmary" and "Good Mourning". Those three albums are the best ALK3 has to offer, hands down.

While I feel like it may not be their strongest album, I certainly enjoy it more than My Shame is True...

They are a solid great band for the scene, I always liked them, pretty unique in their sound with a recognable dark side in it. In the past they made really iconic tracks, I think this album won't delude who knows them well
