Thanks for the great series. one suggestion I had is day 16 should be day 2 and day 17 should be day 3 due to sketches being the very basic fundation for any 3D designs. Many people who are following this series are also trying to work on their own designs in parallel and the sooner you get this concept across, the sooner they will be able to progress on their own designs. For example, the only way you can take advantage of parametric features is if your sketch is constrained well with good design intent.

I am not a beginner. This series is excellent! I have learned several small details in most of the lessons, mostly Fusion 360 specific details and shortcuts. I have used about 5 different CAD systems in the last 35 years, mostly at work as a design engineer. I have told a group of high school kids to watch this series before I have to work with them do FIRST robotics next month. Many of the points you stress are ( rename stuff, fully constrain, fillets at the end, etc) or really important but often overlooked. Can’t wait to get to the joints and expressions lessons. ( I do listen at 1.2 speed… I know what you are doing.)

It's always great to see another one of this serie's videos. I'm learning tons from it! Anyone else is having troubles opening the demo file? Fusion throws me back an "Unable to open" error no mather which web browser I use.

@@ProductDesignOnline Of course! I'm on 2.0.16985 x86_64. I followed the video anyway. The explanation is clear and easy to follow as always, so I consider myself updated on the topic. As far as I'm concerned, and unless somebody else reports anything, don't bother too much. Could be anything on my part. Better to save your energy for your next video. We're eagerly waiting =P

Does the order of the selected lines/points, etc matter when adding constraints? It always seems to perform the expected operation, but I'm not sure if I'm missing something.
@ProductDesignOnlineАй бұрын
In general, no. However, there are some use cases where selection order may provide different results. It will always depend on what other constraints/relationships are already applied to the surrounding sketch entities.

can you make one for the 2024 Fusion 360 update? I can't do some of your lessons based on how you taught with the 2023 edition
@ProductDesignOnline5 ай бұрын
What lessons are you stuck on? Fusion is always updating (monthly) so there will always be small discrepancies. I usually only remake lessons when the workflow has changed.

Can anyone help explain how curvature differs from tangent? They appear to do the same thing on paper, but they function differently. I really don't understand this one.

3/26/24 - Symmetry - All went exactly as you described until I got to the section on Symmetry. Following your steps, the right angled line did not move to vertical as in your sketch. It remained slanted, but showed the Symmetry constraint along with the left vertical and center line. Obviously not symmetrical. If I tried to move the slant line, the sketch went crazy. I have all the other same constraint icons as your sketch. Has something changed in F360 since you made this? I have used Symmetry in other sketches before without issue, but this one has me stumped.
@ProductDesignOnline7 ай бұрын
Hi Neil. The symmetry constraint hasn't changed as far as I'm aware. Did you happen to save your Fusion file, and if so, can you share it? I'm guessing something else is going on in the sketch that is affecting it.

It would be helpful if you could show how to close this sketch, or find the reason why the sketch does not close. Thank you
@ProductDesignOnline9 ай бұрын
The best 'trick' is to draw a straight line across your sketch to see if half of it becomes shaded in blue. If it does, then continue to draw lines across the unshaded part. That will narrow down the open area until you can zoom in or pin point it based on the geometry.

Is there a way to tell Why a sketch is not fully constrained? I have had many sketches that wouldn't fully turn black or get the lock icon, but every constraint I added told me that the sketch would be "over constrained". Any ideas?

There is a hidden way in Fusion 360. I explain that here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/o5LXonVuo6yth6ssi=7vq0nRwdeFjcI2U6

When I right-click on a sketch entity I do not get a list of applied constraints. I assume I am missing something to make this occure.

When I do some of the operations from the video my Fusion 360 distorts my sketch horribly. Some of the lines from the top end up way down at like -100 on the y axis.

It looks like it was due to a small change that was made in the video that wasn't mentioned before applying the second midpoint constraint.

You say that with the collinear constraint, order matters, but you don't explain how. Also, is there still no way to set midpoint constraints in a rational manner? It just chooses which point goes to the midpoint of which line. I always assume that the order should define which is the midpoint-er and which the midpoint-ee, but it seems to be arbitrary, and fiendishly difficult to fix when the program guesses wrong.
@ProductDesignOnline4 ай бұрын
Collinear constraint selection order: The first line or edge you select will remain fixed in its current position. The second line or edge will be adjusted to become collinear with the first selection. This means that the second line will move and rotate to align perfectly with the first line. For Midpoint, you (typically) first select the point or entity that you want to move. The second selection is the line or entity that will have the point constrained to its midpoint. The surrounding constraints can 'override' some of this behavior, which is why at times it can feel like it's behaving differently.
