I’m a little bummed out that Tanjiro’s ability to empathize was never super capitalized on. It’s the whole reason why Nezuko was able to fight off her demonic impulses, how he was able to convince the others to spare her and have faith in his goal, I mean DEMONS cried because of him, there was a lot of setup imo in painting the demons as sympathetic.

1) the demons must pay for the lives they’ve taken. It’s all good they realise their wrongs but that won’t bring back the people they’ve eaten so they must pay for this. 2) if the story went down that path, I can guarantee people would moan and compare it to “talk no jutsu” from Naruto… Ultimately it’s for the best the story was kept simple and they didn’t delve into that. Tanjiro brings about justice and the kindness so many demons lack.

I think Tanjiro may have affected Akaza. Akaza no longer wanted to live as a demon after being beheaded since he remembered his past and let himself die. I think Tanjiro triggered that memory of himself. Moon 1 purposefully died the same way but for a different reason.

Akaza and Kokushibo are my favourite Upper Moons. Akaza and Kokushibo’s backstory is unrivalled, Akaza singlehandedly bodied 67 Fighters by himself (as a human) and Michikatsu was the 2nd Strongest Demon Slayer after Yorrichi. After knowing Akaza’s backstory I stopped hating him for killing Rengoatku. But Kokushibo was always jealous of his brother Yorrichi who had a stronger breathing style and had more raw talent.

Some of the Demon Moons have backstories that are legit tragic or completely psychotic. But the demons I sympathize with the most are Rui, Daki, Gyutaro, and Akaza. Even the Drum Demon. They didn't deserve the treatment and harshness that life gave them.

Just a reminder: If upper moon 6 gyutaro hadn't decided to play with tanjiro and instead kill him, tengen, inosuke, and zenitsu would fail to kill gyutaro and daki and die. If upper moon 5 gyokko decided to kill muchiro instead of just trapping him in the water prison, he would end up helping upper moon 4 hantengu kill mitsuri, tanjiro, genya, and nezuko If upper moon 4 hantengu had just decided to transform at the beginning of the fight, he would've easily killed tanjiro, genya, and nezuko If upper moon 3 akaza hadn't decided to kill himself, he would've killed tanjiro+ giyu If upper moon 2 doma didn't decide to play with inosuke+ kanao and instead killed them, he would survive against the poison as his immune system would find a way to nullify the poison (he only died because he was weakened by the poison+ his head got chopped off by inosuke+kanao) If upper moon 1 kokushibo decided to go serious, he would've killed gyomei+sanemi+muchiro+genya easily

Gyutaro was very serious on killing tengen and even he wanted to torture tanjiro before killing him……….Uppermoon 5 was serious because he wanted muichiro to have slow and painfully death … muichiro is just too strong…..uppermoon 4’s final form can be veiled only if the other one’s failed… and tbh it would have made no difference cuz then genya nezuko and tanjiro would have had more energy to fight him off …… akaza and koku had to die one way or the other so the plot went like LETSS MAKE THEM KILLL THEMSELVES and it’s very obvious noone would like to be a demon ……. Doma is the scariest demon in my opinion cuz he is the only one that can take down all hasira on his own with his clones that are equally strong as doma…. His death was very justified cuz poison is the only way to kill him…. Hashira cannot fight off a range fighter like doma …..

After he was beheaded he didn't blamed the poison for not being able to regenerate his head and simply accepted it since he was a psychopath without feelings. Only 2 demons other than Muzan in DS entire lore could regenerate their heads had they not given up internally, being Kokushibo and Akaza.

The way I went from hating Akaza to sympathizing with him showed how amazing Gotouge has become with story telling. When you find out that 1) he never actually accepted Muzan’s offer. 2) Even though Muzan erased his memories, but he retained enough of his humanity to not only dedicate his style to his master, but to not kill women because of his fiancée 3) He had the chance to become the second hardest demon to kill after Muzan by making it so that only the sun could kill him, but chose to die instead Akaza is easily one of the best villains. Not every anime only fan will have a change of heart because Rengoku is so beloved, but I think a lot will at least sympathize with him. Either way, I’m excited to see it animated

You know what I find absolutely devastating for Kokushibo? This guy may have not been able to learn sun breathing, but he created the second most powerful breathing, which is moon breathing... If he only knew it is the sun that can give him more power and both yoriichi and himself could have combined a new form together which is Eclipse... not to mention, no one in the series has been able to master moon breathing either, I would have been honored!

No one could master moon breathing cuz he never taught it to anyone. Secondly if anyone were to learn it, it wouldnt be as powerful as kokushibos since some of the later forms rely on his bda to extend his sword for greater range.The 400 years of refining his moon breathing also probably made it stronger than tanjiros sun breathing which he learned during the fight against muzan.(Not his hinokami kagura btw)

Fun fact, the Uppermoons actually symbolizes the Seven Deadly Sins (not the anime tho). Kokushibo is Envy, jealous about his brother and wanting to get stronger by becoming a demon. Douma is Pride, always thinking that he's better than almost everyone and he wasnt even serious while fighting Kanao, Inosuke and Shinobu because he thought he could win. Akaza is Wrath, due to his backstory, its really makes sense that he's wrath. Hantengu is Sloth for not doing anything and only expecting that his clones would always do everything for him. Gyoko is Gluttony, he stuffed dead bodies on his vases and eats them. To Gyutaro is Greed, he is always jealous about people and wants it like how handsome Uzui is. And last is Daki which is Lust, and do i need to explain myself? I dont know abou Kaigaku or Nakime but i think Kaigaku is like Greed too.

Its a timeline thing. Kaigaku wpuld have been promoted shortly after the fall of gyutaro, all while gyokko was still alive. Then, since gyokko and hantengu died at the same time, there were two vacant spots, but only one capable demon to fill them (nakime) hence why there was a new upper 6 and a new upper 4 but no new upper 5

A LOT of people have told me that Akaza's backstory would be the saddest. Doesn't seem like it, honestly. At least he was taken in and had some love for a few years. None of his loved ones tried to kill him like Rui, and he didn't have to constantly fend for himself like Gyutaro or Daki. Solid backstory, but not the saddest imo.
