I think I'm honestly more impressed with Spud Webb than anyone else. Anyone who is 6'10" can jump, dunk, and make it flashy. Webb's dunking required insane precision timing. He's barely getting up there. But the fact that he is at 5'7" and delivering those dunks is insanely impressive to me.

The one he did where it wouldn't have been a travel. That is the best one. Where he just casually dribbles up and does that nasty one handed 360 8:08. So damned impressive. Nate's one over Spud was insane as well. 6:11

It's insane because it looks like a standard one-handed dunk. He didn't alley oop it, two hand it, didn't spin, didn't put it through his legs, nothing particularly impressive until you realize that he didn't *just* dunk the ball, he put his WHOLE FOREARM in the net with it and hung there. Just about everyone in the NBA can dunk the ball one-handed. Only someone with Carter's creativity and hops could pull off what he did.

@@patricialucero1767 He wasn't considered the GOAT in the 80's when he was winning those dunk contests. So that argument in null & void. Wilt, kareem, Dr J, Magic, Bird, Big O were considered better than him at that time even when he had his first 3 peat. Talking about Spud Webb, I get it, his non dunk contest career wasn't as lucrative as some of the other past winners. So that could be a contributing factor to the perceived notion that he is underrated. His height can't be held against him, coz he always had those hops. If u ask me whom do I consider as underrated - it's without a doubt - Dwight Howard. He has had the most creative dunks of all time and still no one considers him in the league of - Vince Carter, Jason Richardson, Dominique, Jordan, Lavine, Gordon. Its a travesty.

Figgy 2005--Zach and Arron is like BMW vs Mercedes going head to head. Jordan and Dominique was great for its time. But these young cats surpassed them in terms of creativity, originality and showmanship. Can't forget what Vince did, but his competition pretty much conceded, and understandably. In terms of head to head competition, Zach and Arron is the new gold standard.

Vince Carter is unquestionably the greatest dunker of all time. He marked the beginning of the modern dunk contest. He had the perfect combination of athleticism, power, finesse. creativity, and swagger. All the other dunkers in this video have some of these but not all. People like to bring up Jason Richardson, Zach Lavine, and Aaron Gordon as they have all performed dunks that are more difficult from a technical standpoint, but they didn't have the same flair that VC had. If we were just considering dunk contests then I would admit that VC only barely edges out and all these guys would be in the same conversation. However, if you also consider in-game dunks, then VC blows EVERYONE out of the water and it's not even close.
@wuhanclan
@wuhanclan 6 жыл бұрын
C'mon now. You seriously gonna compare Dominique Top 100 vs Vince Carter Top 100? I get it was the 80s and there is less footage to work with but it's obvious that Vince's repertoire of dunks is much larger. To be fair, in the 80s, the stuff that Nique was doing was considered very creative at the time. It's why I give Zach Lavine and Aaron Gordon credit for having the most difficult dunks we've yet seen at the NBA level (obviously dedicated pro dunkers like Flight Bros guys have come up with crazier stuff). Was Nique the best power dunker of all time? Absolutely. But as an overall package, he's just not as impressive as Vince.

i agree with you, Vince Carter is the best dunker of all time. everybody has swagger, thats really a personal opinion, but i think what he has is a combo of flexibility and abdominal and back muscle strength. his dunk had the most in degrees from whole body extension converting whole body flexion, gives you sensation of the power.

Exactly. What was once spectacular has now become athletically humdrum. Even Jordan's vintage all-star dunks did not match Vince's all-time, next-level video-game-come-to-life dunks. That performance at the all-star game he did ruined me for life. I'm bored by nearly everybody else. Since that time, every NBA dunk contest has paled and failed in comparison.

That Aaron Gordon dunk is awfully nice, but you do get a boost from jumping over someone like that (all the professional dunkers say so, which is why they're always jumping over someone). Personally, the dunk I like the most is Gordon's 360 scoop with the Mail-man cock-back with his other hand while the mascot was spinning. Also, Oladipo's dunk was sick! McGee's 2-ball, 2-basket dunk is way underrated as well!

For me the best dunks and memorable moments of the last 20 years (not including the Jordan and Domonique stuff) are -Vince Carter reverse 360 windmill 0:20 -Jason Richardson reverse between the legs from baseline off the bounce 1:24 -Zach Lavine around the world off the bounce (imo one of the best dunks ever, I know Iguodala did it first but Zach’s had more flair) 7:29 -Aaron Gordon over mascot sitting leg dunk 0:48

Ain't nobody gonna talk about Spud Webb's dunks???? Those were insane BRUH!!!
@ludwigvonn9889
@ludwigvonn9889 6 жыл бұрын
The only thing that makes them insane is because of the fact that the man was small. The dunks are lame otherwise. I've seen Nate Robinson dunk over so many people in-game that these Spud Webb dunks are kinda just... ok

Ludwig Vonn I don’t think a lot of u younger guys can imagine or think about the impact & amazement seeing a 5’7” guy doing dunks like this in 86. He’s 2 to 3 inches shorter than Robinson. I’m 44. Jordan, Niq, Spudd, are my childhood. They change the whole dunking game. Jordan with his gracefulness, Dominique with his powerfulness, Spudd with his nonchalantness. We are talking about the early & mid 80’s. It was unthinkable to us to see the things these guys were doing. U gotta respect it. They’re far from lame.

Anytime we see old footage of player dunking including dominique and julius erving they dont look as good as the new dunks we see. To me the footage of back then didnt look as crisp or good as now and the dunks today are more creative. If you watch jordan clips when he was in Washington compared to now you can see a drastic difference in the footage and how it makes jordan look. He looked better in his washigton wizards clips than his old bulls clips early on..mostly cuz of how the footage looks.

Yes. In 2003 All Stars game footage (HD), Jordan moves look great, and he was 40 years old. So it's most about the video quality. Imagine the 90's Chicago Bulls in HD...that would have been great.

When my son was about 11 years old he entered a Jaycee Relay Race. He’d never ran track before and didn’t know everybody wore shorts. He came in jeans, to everyone’s amusement. He ran the last leg for his team - and came away the fastest runner of the day, and made up considerable distance to win. This video made me think of that day. How I wish I had been able to see it, instead of only hear and read about it. I was a single mom and had to work. My son was an amazing athlete. ❤️
