Honestly speaking, if Snape had lived a much longer life, I feel that he could've indeed been in league with wizards like Dumbledore, Voldemort, and Grindelwald. Maybe not the same exact tier, but close enough. All the aforementioned wizards showed great talent during their formative years as well, so Snape could be close to reaching their skill and status as a great wizard known world wide.

Any random jackass could sneak up behind James and Sirius dueling and cast the killing curse on them. quality of a charm, active control over your own spell, dispelling. ADULT James didn't last a fucking second against Voldemort. Book Snape dueled McGonagall, Flitwick and Slughorn at the same time and survived.

Really, there’s a few reasons for Hogwarts to teach Latin as a requirement (and one or two reasons for them not to). I was horrified at Sectumsempra, even before Harry used it. I recognized it’s meaning (“Always cut” or “cut forever”) and I was praying that Harry wouldn’t use it (if he knew Latin enough to understand its meaning, then I’m confident he might’ve hesitated at least). It makes me even more pissed off at the Mauraders- their bullying pushed Severus to this kind of level. How angry do you have to be to create a spell that, by its very meaning, would never stop cutting who it strikes? If Severus had ever used that on the Mauraders, I don’t think he’d be around for the series still. I wonder if him creating that spell was a last ditch effort...

Notably, Snape apparently really liked the Latin names, since most of the ones here come from Latin. The exception to the English/Latin rule are the very few ones based on existing expressions (eg Avada Kedavra based on Abracadabra).

I thought, in a way, Snape might actually be more powerful than voldemort or at least his equal. He managed to deceive him for many years without him finding out about his true allegiances- * when teaching Harry how to block Voldemort from reading his mind it must have been possible for Snape to withstand the scrutiny of Voldemort for years... When fighting harry he also barely seemed bothered by the spells used, as if he wasn't even trying. Again when fighting mcgonagall & flitwick snape had no issue fighting both at the same time, two professors at hogwarts... Instead of fighting (and winning perhaps which I think he easily could have) he decided to run to avoid hurting anyone. When fleeing he also seemed to be able to "fly" just using magic - something very few wizards seem able to do.
@Norinia Жыл бұрын
After playing Hogwarts Legacy, and seeing how ridiculously stuck in their ways wizards could be, I absolutely see Snape as an incredible genius, absolutely in the same league of Dumbledore and Voldemort. Just an easy example, there’s a boy who’s trying to solve his sister’s blood curse. Instead of discussing the problem at all, his uncle just storms up and evaporates whatever the poor kid has in his hands, not willing to listen to a single word the boy utters, and describes him trying to find a cure no one else has as ‘pure arrogance’ (specifically “YoU tHiNk YoU kNoW mOrE tHaN tHe HeAlErS aT sAiNt MuNgOs?!?) So Snape absolutely was a revolutionary with his 7+ spells that he personally created.

Nice, this is what people have done for millennia. Ancient civilisations would chant, sacrifice, and conduct rituals to try and control the weather. Like you said it was probably on dumbledor orders, who can impress slughorn if not snape, and what better way to help him than give him the book? There is a reason why everyone fails miserably except harry, for years snape taught outside of the given curriculum, he gave them his own recipe. so when he was gone, hermione was following the old wrong text book.

If so then he'd be like Tom Riddle and have the scholarship, which meant he didn't own his books at the end. Thus, them ending up back in the cupboard. I wouldn't say Snape "invented" Levicorpus. The "Levi" root word was taught to first year students. The "corpus" part was merely focusing the magic on a certain part of the body. It's like Hermione's "Oculus Reparo" spell in the train. The "Oculus" obviously refers to Harry's glasses but as their magical prowess improves to the level of McGonagall or Dumbledore they just need to cast "Reparo" even nonverbally sometimes on a whole area and the spell takes effect.

It sure is weird that Snape was so good at potions he literally changed the rules in his school books to get fantastic results yet never once teaches a modified instruction set or writes and assigns a book himself. Almost like this was 100% retconned into existence regardless of what Joanne claims. If he was really this passionate and good at his job he'd want the students to know how cool he was by correcting the book so they knew he was the best. On that note: Slughorn is an accomplished potions master too. How did he not know of these techniques and why wasn't he teaching them? Any professor that sees a student excelling, and that professor is worth their salt, would want to observe the student and speak to them to help mold them to be even better and maybe even learn from them.
@de.n303 жыл бұрын
I don't think Snape was interested in everyone knowing how good he was. That's his whole biography.
@l.n.33723 жыл бұрын
Actually that's not true. Snape always teaches by his own standard. Remember that he writes the instructions before every class on the board with a flick of the wand. They never use a textbook until slughorn class in 6. Snape uses his own version of the potions in every class from 1-5. Snape already proved his brilliance but it went unnoticed by students and even fans because they assumed he wrote what was in the text. In reality he didn't.

Harry never sought out to become a part of Slughorns Slug Club, Slughorn wanted to “collect” The Boy Who Lived, as one of his many successful students. Hell! He even brags about it to Harry, after he stops playing hide-and-seek:armchair edition. Dumbledore knew that Horace was a bit of a megalomaniac snob, and even brought Harry along when he went to offer the former Potions Professor his job back, because the opportunity to “claim” the most famous wizard in Britain would be to tempting to turn down the offer.

i thought about that too. most likely was it placed intentionally. dumbledore needed harry to successfully become one of slughorns chosen ones and join the club and the easiest way would be for harry doing great in his potions class. so i think he made snape drop it there. after all some recipes in the book where straight up wrong apparently. hermione did in fact follow them to the letter and her potions where rubbish while harry following snapes instructions created perfect potions. and i mean dumbledore knew that harry hated potions and that the reason was snape. but he also knew snape wouldn't teach potions that year but slughorn. idk. it makes sense to me. dumbledore knew everything that happened in hogwarts and pulled a lot of strings behind the scenes to teach harry what he had to know in order to beat voldemort. like in year four where he had barty/fake moody teach them the unforgiveable curses. he knew that voldemorts return would come soon due to snape having the dark mark and if it wasn't for those datda classes he would most likely not have survived the duel with voldemort.

I like the batte between Harry and Draco in the book better. In the movie after he hits Draco with Sectumsempra Harry kind of just stands there and looks at Draco. I get it, he’s probably in shock, but in the book, as you stated, he plunges towards him to try and help him. It shows that despite Harry and Draco being foes, Harry still has a good heart and showed genuine concern and somewhat remorse towards Draco after using the spell on him
@eclipse46312 жыл бұрын
One of the things that may be wrong about this video is the counter-curse for Sectumsempra: Vulnera Sanentur. Just recently about a month back, when I watched Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore, I heard Gellert Grindelwald say out loud the incantation: Inanima Vulnera Sanentur. This restored the blood that had been lost when the Qilin was slashed across the neck by Grindelwald himself. After getting out of the theaters, I realized that it was a variant of Vulnera Sanentur, the spell used by Snape on Draco in the Half-Blood Prince. I immediately did some research and got interested. What I found was that, nowhere is there something that definitively says in the books/movies/any other form of canon that it was developed by Snape. This brings up the possibility (and most likely case) that Vulnera Sanentur wasn't developed by Snape. This means that Snape probably found the spell somewhere else and perhaps decided that it would work as a counter-curse for Sectumsempra. What is also more interesting is that on Pottermore (which is approved by Rowling herself), there are only 6 spells listed that were developed by Snape (All of them excluding Vulnera Sanentur). Just something I thought was interesting (and an opportunity to correct someone, which I like to do a lot when I see questionable info). (Let me know if anyone else has any other info to support this theory).

I feel like Snape is a way better duelist than we think. The marauders never attacked him 1 on 1. He was repeatedly bullied by them for years. Think about the psychological damage that does during a fight. He was 15 and more scared of them than anything else at that point. Later on, book Snape would duel with McGonagall, flitwick etc while obviously not going all out since he was secretly on their side and still held his own. Snapes OP af.

Can we honestly talk about Sectumsempra is the counter offensive to the Killing curse? Avada Kedavra has six syllables whereas Sectumsempra has four.
