Having owned Boxers for over forty years, the only thing that was forgot to be mentioned was their capacity to spontaneously learn to communicate their wants to you. They literally develop their own, accurate dog/human language better than any other dog. Each of my dogs quickly learned, in different ways, to convey exactly what they want, even using facial expressions which only Boxer owners will understand, how many other dogs literally smile when they're happy?

A fearsome warrior with the spirit of a child. My Rocky’s coat gleams as thoroughbred. He is tiger striped dark copper and black brindle and is the most handsome dog I’ve ever seen. About 75 lbs. He will bark a bit much but he’s only 19 months and still learning. They become more noble with maturity but never lose a bit of the puppy. His white chest marks look much as a map of the continent of Africa complete with Madagascar. We’ve had boxers for over thirty years, Rocky is our fourth, and cropped ears were the norm but I’m so used to Rocky’s flopping long ears now I love them as is but of course his tail is cropped. My wife calls him mister wiggles as he wags his whole body with joy.

I had 2 boxers & a pit boxer mix my husband used to hunt wild boar. One day they were playing in the back yard w/my 2 1/2 yr old daughter, while I hung clothes. The dogs never left her side. We had a 6' fence around the backyard w/signs along the entire fence & Front door, "BEWARE OF DOGS! " I was hanging clothes w/my back turned from my daughter while 2 men were approaching the fence 2 tell me she looked like a little Shirley Temple Doll only she had white blonde hair, big baby blue eyes & the longest eyelashes ever continued 2 mention I had a beautiful daughter who had her mommas looks. Feeling un- comfortable I said thanks & told them I was busy & they should leave. Our dogs sensed tension & my fear I'm sure. They escorted my daughter closer & stood their ground 2 guard us, never ceasing 2 growl at the 2 men. Our dogs were never trained to be guard dogs. I saw and greatly appreciated this different side of them I'd never seen. It was nice 2 kno we were safe. Especially when one climbed over the fence trying 2 woo my daughter 2 come see him. The female pit/boxer mix grabbed her shirt,pulling my daughter back. The female boxer stayed next 2 me. Before we knew it our 85# boxer had the man faced down in the ground,the other one got attacked when he tried to reach through the fence was grabbed by the arms. My female boxer who stood by me & my daughter ran to get my cell phone, police were called & those 2 men were imprisoned 4 a long time. What surprised me is my dogs NEVER had guard dog classes. It must be ingrained when loved ones are in danger. I was so proud of our 4legged family members.😊😉🐶 I so much more appreciate ALL my dog & human family members.🏜

I had a Female White American Boxer who was 69lbs and lived to be the age of 12.5 years. She passed on her own with Us by her side. Aside from a few skin tags and later dementia, she lived an extremely healthy life. Raw food was the secret to the last years of her life. She never looked old or had seemed to have issues being a silly boxer. She also got a lot of exercise. I also had an AKC registered Female fawn 50 lbs who was diagnosed at the age of 7 with DM. She was in a wheelchair and lived to the age of 10. I just got a little Male puppy who is the light of my life. I couldn't imagine life without one. I do hope that we figure out how to make this breed last. The older they get the wiser they become. Thanks for doing this work!

Owned two boxers and will buy another one in the next year or two. Boxy was a clown built like a tank. He was agile, fast, loved children and his family (us). I remember when we were doing a remodeling on our backyard, boxy’s fun time was to steal any tool from the workers and run all over the yard stopping from time to time to challenge the workers to try and take the tool, as soon as they got close he would again pick up the tool and start the game all over.

Getting cuddly with a playful breed will not help. Love them but not to an extent of getting cuddly with them. Be gentle but assertive. Correct them even before they show that kind of behaviour. You can do this by reading their expressions and body language and before they even try to jump on people just start patting them in the neck part and command them to sit to calm them down. Take them to long walks twice a day if possible. I hope it will help.

I only have one now - her buddy passed away over a year ago. He was 13 yo. She's 10 now. Delilah was 12 and the ones before didn't live as long - 6 to 9 yo. I'm my dog's dog, lol. I would protect them with my life.

Boxers are the best. They are super smart, easy to train, loving and friendly, but can be fearless and protective when they know they need to be.

So interesting because I was only saying recently that you can see the similarities between boxers and American bulldogs. My boxer also will take a stalking or hunting stance when she sees birds etc
@brianmurphy55135 жыл бұрын
The boxer is not an english bulldog and ebt cross! Its history is well documented by the Germans. Read the bk chronicles and other writings of the time. It was created from the German/Spanish/French bulldogs, a bullenbeiser - Alano type dog, and the bulldog from England which was anything from a pit to the sour mug. And of course there was inclusion of bull & terrier crosses as this was common of that time. You can't just say the German bulldog is myth, it has given rise to numerous breeds.

Brian Murphy - Thank you for your contribution. I too was bewildered. Nevertheless, I remain curious about the origin of the boxer's impressive ability for herding and also about its little to none interest in hunting.
@brianmurphy55135 жыл бұрын
@@jmerlo4119 the boxer has a very high prey drive, if would be unusual if one hadn't! they can make excellent hunters, or catch dogs. Herding relies heavily upon the dogs natural prey drive and then the dog is trained not to engage the sheep etc but to go wide and around...
@jmerlo41195 жыл бұрын
Brian Murphy - If you say so. However, I do not share the same opinion. Never seen a boxer with a hunting obsession, the same as I've never seen a hound, or a setter, or a pointer, or a terrier herding anything. As a member of a family of farmers, I have long lost count of how many dogs I've played with and trained and observed to in order to have a modest understanding of what breeds are specially good for.
@jmerlo41195 жыл бұрын
@Brian Murphy - It is always interesting talking to someone who has personal practical experience. I think that you are helping me to realize that there is a difference between the terms "Pray dog" and "Hunter dog". That said, I hope you'd agree in that while a Red Setter literally kills itself from running 24/7 covering extensive areas all by itself, a Boxer, on the other hand, is quite happy to hang around by the kitchen door at the farm house. Yet a boxer will be only too happy when given the command to take on an intruder pig. So, I am guessing that this is the "Pray" tendency which, as you say, is used to train a boxer to become a shepherd. BTW I am eagerly looking around for a couple of Boxer puppies to see if I manage to train them to bring the horses to the corral. It will save me from having to do a lot of walking every morning! Lol

I had a German boxer, he was bigger than the ones here, he was full of muscle, the sweetest dog and yet a very good guard dog at night, in the day he was super friendly of anyone that came to the house he didn't know, but he was very watchful until they left, the only problem he had, was a skin condition which was treated with a good medication it was pricey but worth it, he lived till 11.5 years old, I had to put him down after he collapsed and found to have spleen cancer, took me 3 years to get over his passing

I agree about kennel training. I worked in animal clinics for a long time working from 8-10 hrs a day, imagine if I left my pup out of her kennel to eat whatever she wanted, imagine the potential foreign bodies she could get without me knowing it...safety first! I love Boxers with undocked tails and uncropped ears, look how happy they are with their ears and tails! 😍😍😍I wish everyone could all appreciate the beauty of them without altering the ears/tails. Humans are never satisfied and want to make everything as aesthetically pleasing to their eyes, nothing important for the animal itself.

They need a lot of love. Like A LOT. They protect like none. They might be old and big but they want their owner's lap and scratchies all the time and love to slather you with their big bubbly drools. But lay hands on their owners and that jaw will break your bones into pieces. And then will look at you with their big eyes like huh? and then talk to you in their weird ass noises and words. You gotta love them. They are the most adorable beings in the whole universe

Just look how Attractive and Beautiful Those two European Boxer's are ! Why must Americans Butcher the ears and Tails of Their Animals ? I just do not get it and asking Breeders to supply whole Dogs and Not Mutilated/Butchered Animals would stop this Tragedy overnight ! Please Love Your Best and most Trusted Friend .

Boxers are entertaining dogs, so funny to watch. Had two of them as a kid, they knocked me over more than once, never any harm intended. Have had a couple of GSDs as an adult, they're just the best in my book (no offense intended to other breeds).

My family just adopted a beautiful 10yr old Boxer mix. We wanted to know what she was mixed with and did a DNA test. She came back as 70% Boxer 30% Pitbull. She is super friendly, however we noticed that she is very vocal towards new people and dogs but has no issues with our other dog or cat.

Boxers are old English bulldogs and bull terriers? That not right the dog came from Germany and was made with a molossar type of dog
@msandoval80275 жыл бұрын
Deee_ Dee , I agree her info is totally wrong regarding this breeds origins!
@errhka5 жыл бұрын
There's no evidence to support this - genetically or historically. She even says this in the video. A molossar type dog isn't as light of frame either - those such as ovcharkas and mastiff are closer to what a molossar is like. There are many - if not most - breed histories that are simply stories that were made up and then passed down though word of mouth. I'm glad this lady did her research to determine between fact and fiction

Right in Germany they bred bullenbeiser with old English bulldog to make the boxer all that ukc american mixes are just bad Americans try to make every thing with their own standards
