Do you recommend painting the holes on a cottonwood tree with wood glue to keep it from rotting?
@WildHomesteadLiving Жыл бұрын
Great question. We don’t have experience with that method, so can’t speak to its effectiveness. We are letting our forest evolve, which means some trees die and then become home to other animals while new and different species of trees grow.

Good to see the benefits of Cottonwoods. We have some in our backyard and the neighbors adjacent on all sides hate them because they release the cotton over several weeks which gets stuck to their outside A/C units and they drop the sticky buds. Now we are forced to have them sprayed next year so they don't bloom.

Have you ever considered the transpiration cycle of the cottonwood trees and how the cottonwood trees affect the dew, fog and cooling in your area?

Are there any states that don't have cotton wood trees or not many trees? Thank you

@@WildHomesteadLiving thank you for the info. Currently, We're experiencing a HUGE cottonwood "fuzz storm" in the Chicago metropolitan areas. I hear this happens for about 2 weeks Durning the end of every spring/early summer although I've never seen it this aggressive and I've lived in Illinois my while life. I was hoping to relocate to either northern Arizona and or west Texas soon but if cottonwood trees are prevalent, I wouldn't. My doctor strongly recommends I relocate to a drier climate due to my severe allergies from cottonwood.

Is it possible to grow eastern cottonwood at a temperature of 20-30 degree celsius.......
@WildHomesteadLiving3 жыл бұрын
Hey there! We think so, but don’t have any direct experience with that variety. Based on our observations and research it seems that high water volume in the soil is critical.

@@WildHomesteadLiving Well, maybe. I was looking for specific info on pruning or trimming very small cottonwood saplings I dug out of my yard and put in pots. They look great, but I don't know if I should trim off the bottom branches this time of year and let them sit in the pot over winter again or not. I have so many trees that just come up in my slightly wild desert/river land.

7:13 So because it has antibacterial properties it’s good to use the rest of the canning jar lid and close it off? Just now learning about cottonwood trees and learning to forage them etc. Good video, pleasant to listen to and informative. Could you plan on doing a shorty about foraging the leaves and their uses? I know their’s a lot of amino acids in them making them healthy but bitter tasting. I’ve run into very little info about the leaves. And I’m a little squirrelly about not enough info for a new-by in the foraging life. I don’t want to make myself sick. Thanks for the video. Kate
